How does the Medium nib compare to??? is it close to a Kaweco Nib? or Lamy 2000 Medium nib??? how does the Fine nib write...do you have an Aurora Optima "Fine?? thanks
I do not have an Aurora Fine Nib on hand. When it comes to the more expensive pens, I tend to get the nib sizes that I know I’ll enjoy from personal experience. As the channel grows and Patreon support grows, I may be able to expand my nib selection on review pens. I will say though, this ‘medium’ nib writes almost as wide as a Kaweco broad.
Aurora’s Fine nibs, invariably write a true European (excluding Montblanc and Pelikan) fine line width. Very consistent, reliable and with that (in)famous feedback-y, pleasantly ‘toothy’ feel to the writing. I have 26 Auroras (incl. four Optimas), in every nib size except the Oblique ones.
A somewhat tough call. The PC 845 has excellent dimensions in length, size, weight and all-round aesthetics. It is urushi lacquer over ebonite. Fantastic pairing of materials and so well executed. The nib is a good looking two-tone 18k gold that is a consistent, reliable and pleasurable writer. It was for a long time Pilot’s flagship pen, for good reason. The 845 is awfully over-priced in the U.S and Europe, though. Best bought directly from Japan, like I did. I have the black one. And also the flagship, larger, much pricier sibling, the Custom Urushi pen in vermillion. The Optima is just magnificent. One of the very best modern pens currently still being made. The auroloide material is very attractive in the bewildering range of color finish options. The pen is perfectly sized, with a stout barrel and long wide section. I hate posting and even in my medium-large hands, the Optima sits comfortably enough in hand, unposted. The smoothest piston system I’ve ever used. And the nibs with their trademark, lovely feedback is an acquired taste. I love it. I adore Aurora. So, while either of these comparably priced pens is a swell choice of pen to buy, I’d pick the Optima. I own four of them. ❤️
Auroloide is Aurora’s patented ‘celluloses acetate’ resin. More stable and ‘safe’ than conventional celluloid. But still offering a variety of colors and finishes with remarkable depth, translucency and fan appeal.
Thank you for the review. I'm currently deciding myself if I should get one.
Excellent! And, I agree with your assessment. I love my Optima, too!
Can't wait to get an Aurora - maybe next year:)

I am between this Optima and Pilot Custom 845. Opinions, please?

I prefer the Optima
This vs Pelican m800?
I’d choose the Optima, any Aurora, over any Pelikan Mxxx, anytime.
I actually prefer the M800
Classy pen, though.
Auroloide? Srsly? Did no one in the marketing department think that one through?
