I've never listened to Lehar (and didn't realize he was basically contemporary with Richard Strauss!), though I'm familiar with him and his work. I'm planning to see Merry Widow in Vienna this fall so figured to check it out. I'm a Wagner/Strauss person, but this is genius. And the recording captures a bygone era.
The only flaw of the Merry Widow is that the original language is not English. I have been used to listening to this operetta in English. Not a word in these dialogs can I understand as the lines are in German. The music is superb and so are the voices of these singers. And yet I would appreciate if the uploader of this clip had put English subtitles in this video.
Hey, would it be possible to link to the mp3/flac audio that you uploaded (i.e. without the RUclips compression)? I've searched everywhere for this recording but can't find it on CD anywhere - only on LP, and I've had bad experiences buying vintage opera LPs (condition is usually much worse than advertised). You are my last shot at listening to this recording in decent quality. Thanks so much!
großartig: die beste aufnahme, die ich kenne! ❤
Musikalisch und stimmakustisch die beste Aufnahme. Sehr schön.
