You can tell reading Altaii that Jordan was a big Conan fan and he learned how to write action and war from reading Howard. In my opinion Robert E Howard is the best at writing action and violence and just behind him is Jordan and Brent Weeks
@@tomsloan-citizenjournalist9682 Robert Jordan did an amazing job with Conan but I would recommend getting The Complete Chronicles Of Conan, to see how influential Robert E Howard was on modern Fantasy and world building in my opinion is the most unappreciated fantasy contributor and should be as remembered as well as Tolkien and Jordan. You wouldn't believe how much work he put into Conan's world and the stories range from truly horrific and barbaric to adventurous but with a fiery flare. Robert E Howard had an amazing way of putting you right there with Conan and somehow Robert Jordan picked that up and applied it to his own writing.
Considering the quick explanation of wanderers and how there are parallel worlds I'm choosing to think the wheel of time and this world exist in the same universe
You should read Jordan's other (non-Conan) books! Cheyenne Raiders was...not terrible, but not great either (Michael Kramer narrates the audio book though, so that's something), but the Fallon Trilogy was actually pretty good! Honestly, no. I normally recommend to people who want to try out Terry Brooks to skip Sword and go straight into Elfstones. If it was written now it would just get put on to fanfiction.net. Now the series he wrote after the first three is very good, and I would recommend it to practically anyone. Even if you don't really like how Brooks writes it will show you the inspiration for Morrowind from the Elder Scrolls if nothing else. I would also suggest Running With the Demon and not just because my home town is the setting.
the first time I read sword I loved it. a few years later I tried to listen to the audio book and I was just bored I just couldn't get into it very far, maybe my taste's have changed but it just couldn't hook me fully. I love the shannara series but the first book in the series feels like a hard sell for me now...
Just keep in mind that it is not 3rd person limited, but 3rd person omniscient, which is very weird and not really used at all anymore in Fantasy literature. I've tried a couple time to read it and I just can't seem to get past the first third.
Few people would say it’s an easy read. Even Daniel admits Jordan can get bogged down with details and just an overall failure to move the story along. Having said that, the books are so good, why deny yourself so much joy? Take the books one at a time. Once you get hooked, it should not be a problem.
Thanks Daniel. Being a huge WoT fan I was wondering just how many seeds of it were sown within Warrior of the Altaii. I'll be nabbing a copy for my kindle. And will sit back and read the great man's humble beginnings.
You should do a video just about your channel. Like the records and metrics. Most viewed video, most commented on, etc. And any demographics of your viewership you have. That would be interesting to me anyways.
Depends on the book. With WoT, I'm doing somewhere around 50 pages an hour or 300 wpm. This is assuming no distractions or interruptions. For something more difficult like H.P. Lovecraft, it could drop down to 30-40 pages an hour. It also depends on the font sized used, but since I read everything on Kindle now, it doesn't matter what font size the publisher uses. One of the great things about a digital book.
Now you have an excuse to do something on the original Conan stories, even if it's just to see how the compare :). You could even to the comparison to Howard's contemporary Lovecraft.
It's funny to say but I hated the Robert Jordan Conan books. I didn't think he understood the character at all. In fact, I almost didn't read WoT when I realized who the author was. With that in mind I think I'll skip this book.
Maybe it's just me, but after reading the first 4 wheel of time books. Robert strikes me as the kind of man who did not have alot of guy freinds, he seems like he on one hand admires masculinity, but on the other hand resents it. I imagine that his wife was a militant feminist, and her religion of man hating(because that's what it is) seeped deep into his psyche. I also imagine that she is the type of woman who is mean, petty, arrogant, egotistical, and generally nasty. She also probably makes the common error of calling that a strong woman, and dismissing any complaints about it as men who cant handle strong women. I also imagine he never ever stood up to her about anything. Why do I think this? That is how he writes women in WOT series, and the men NEVER stand up for themselves, they just take it on the chin, and say thank you master may I have another.
Your just straight up wrong in our assessment. Let me drop a quote right here that going to be kinda spoilery. Book 6, so Mat has just arrived in Salidar to pick up Elayne, Eqwene and Nyneave. There are things he doesn't know, but suffice to say one of the characters he is "rescuing" is in fact in charge. Quote below, At almost the same instant, Nynaeve said in a threatening tone, "Mat Cauthon, you are making the biggest--" "I said listen!" He poked a finger at Elayne. "You, I'm taking back to Caemlyn, if I can keep Aviendha from killing you. If you don't want that pretty throat slit, you stay close to me and do what I say, no questions!" The finger shifted to Egwene. "Rand says he'll send you back to the Wise Ones whenever you want, and if what I've seen so far is any indication what you get up to, my advice is to take him up on it now! It seems you know how to Travel" --Egwene gave a small start--"so you can make a gateway to Caemlyn for the Band. I don't want any argument, Egwene! And you, Nynaeve! I ought to leave you here, but if you want to come, you can. Only, I'm warning you. You yank that braid at me just once, and I swear I'll warm your bottom!"
@@tomsloan-citizenjournalist9682 Oh man I appreciate all the energy you put into this response, sincerely, I can feel your passion. I also appreciate the spoiler warning, since I have been thinking about finishing out the series, just hoping they lighten up on the whole, men being second class thing, and asking me as the reader to not be turned off the female characters. While I am very happy to see these boys start to stand up for themselves. My assessment is in no way "dead ass wrong", I am 4 books in and it is positively littered with the women treated the men as second class citizens. It is nice to see 6 books in that dynamic may change, but that does not mean the 4 books of what I said didnt happen. Currently for me Rand is being constantly disrespected by Avienda and seems to think it is cute, despite her hate being the most frivolous and petty thing I've ever heard of. Ninieve and Elaine are treating Tom and Sandor like they are children and getting offended at literally fucking everything, and Faliel is treating Perryn like, well God I dont know how to describe that, but its retarded, and the guys have just been happily going along with it. That being said, I respect your passion for the story, the world, magic system, and and well, everything is amazing except all the relationships between men and women, that is just hard to read.

Maybe you should review Robert Jordan’s Conan the Barbarian books
i was seven when he passed. yikes 'f' in chat boys. i cant wait to get some money so i can buy he's WOT.
On the 3rd last book of wot and im genuinely sad to be near the finishing line
Can you do a review for El Camino?
Have you hard of the artimas fowl movie
Have you read The Conan Chronicles yet?
Jordan Holmes nope!
@@DanielGreeneReviews Do it *NOW* hehe
Now you have an excuse to do something on the original Conan stories, even if it's just to see how the compare :). You could even to the comparison to Howard's contemporary Lovecraft.
Other first person stories with slow pace... Must he always trash on kingkiller?
Daniel trashes kingkiller chronicles in this vid?

It's funny to say but I hated the Robert Jordan Conan books. I didn't think he understood the character at all. In fact, I almost didn't read WoT when I realized who the author was.
With that in mind I think I'll skip this book.
Daniel greene do you play video games?
Was this book already edited by his wife?
Tai'shar Rigney
*Sword and sorcery.

Aww how sad. I enjoyed first PoV books.
hi :)
what i do here...

gonna buy Conan instead
Quote below,
At almost the same instant, Nynaeve said in a threatening tone, "Mat Cauthon, you are making the biggest--" "I said listen!" He poked a finger at Elayne.
@@gibbjonathan22 I'm cool with that.
yea yea, we all know you think Jordan is God. Glad Sanderson finished WOT, his writing was way better and finally GOT ON WITH IT.
I hate first-person POV!
Again, the auto-focus on your camera is distracting.
