What about the pepper mate? That's surely a big part of Sauvage. As you say a lot of the clones pretty much miss out on the more subtle citrus especially in the opening and just go to the drydown so this sounds promising.
We all have our own personal tastes when it comes to fragrances but the best 3, in my opinion are : The Man Silver (YSL Kuoros), The Man Cobalt ( Dior Farenheit), Bondage ( JPG Le Male)
For me the best out of the shower fragrance is Dylan Blue by Versace. I would say it's more shower gel than soap and it probably the best bang for your buck of the 'blue' fragrances. Plus not every second person is wearing it unlike Sauvage of Bleu de Chanel. A fragrance that reminds me of pure soap is YSL Kuoros.

There is definitely pepper in this but takes a back seat to the ambroxan and citrus!

I really like Chatler. It's very similar. You should get about 8 hours with a moderate sillage with a couple of hours projection!

Yes but not performance. Lidl just smells like Sauvage dry down for me. Not much in the way of top notes.
