Sugar cosmetics have revenue of 200 crores (loss making) and are valuing themselves at 4000 crores. I don’t think they are too off on valuation, if that’s the trend.

tbh.. Valuation is not only based on revenue ..
revenue , ebitda, number of users , market share in field, kitne series of funding hua hai, ability to pay etc etc all have a factor in company valuation..
dcf (discounted cash flow) which these guys used is just one method.. Ashneer was right ek excel inke saamne kholte to dcf inko samajh nai aata...ye log agar comparable analysis ya precedent company sale use karte to maybe valuation aisa bhayanak na batata.
plus aisa bhi lagra tha ki ye log marketing karne aaye hai.. 350 ka subscription bechne..Ashneer ne sahi pakad liya 🤣
Honestly, the valuation of sugar is a bit crazy as well but there is a difference, the revenue multiple on sugar is 20x vs 33x, the gross margins on sugar are much higher, the TAM is bigger, they are a much larger company in a vast category and have proven themselves to compete in the market because any D2C Brand crossing 100cr in revenue is insanely good.
The thing is sugar's valuation has gotten this high because it's a venture funded business, and their whole philosophy up until very recently was just go fast and scale up to be the first to establish market leadership. This also causes these companies to often make losses because you cannot optimise for profit in today's marketplace while also scaling at that speed and acquiring so many customers.
The good thing is the market is hopefully changing again, investors are becoming more cautious and focused on profitable growth rather than blitzscaling after the disasters of Uber, WeWork on the global level and PayTM/Zomato in India. We can also see the kind of backlash that Mama Earth is getting now.
There will be a short period where the market will have to correct, the valuations that some of the old companies have will have to be maintained as they come for the IPO, but whether the public market will support it is definitely a big question mark.

First of all … I liked the way pitchers took the critics very positively and didn’t show negative emotions and gesture. 👏🏼 also they are really doing wonderful year by year so ideally they should not worry . Simply state by state they can achieve exponential growth 👍🏼

Looks like they were never there for a deal. They came in with an unrealistic proposal, which they know it’s not going to fly. The smirk on their faces show that they are not there for an offer from the get-go. All they wanted for their brand to be on national television which they finally got. The sharks got played here.
