@@FelixUmbra first thing is, the threshold is not fixed, he is constantly trying to improve. So, which point of history are you talking about and what kind of measurement you want?) Second thing is, there are attacks that can wound him EXACTLY because his defense is high. Weird, right? But attacks that are proportional to defense don't think so. Chi attacks don't think so. Yup.
What I liked about Naofumi and Raphtalia is that they both helped each other in their most desprite moment Naofumi hated the world, While Raphtalia gave up on hope. They found and saved each other. This AMV really shows it in my opinion great job man.

Just realized that they referred to themselves as being "frozen by the fear in me" and then said to "shatter me." I never made the connection before that they were essentially just saying help me break through my fear, which is exactly what Naofumi did for Raphtalia, so the song is even more fitting than I originally thought.

no one could have ever expected that Raphtalia a dying 10 year old slave would become one of the strongest beings in that world.
I feel that this AMV perfectly captures the relationship between Naofumi and Raphtalia. The song coupled with the scene choices, the timing of it all, the emotion conveyed in both the video and audio at the same time... I've watched Rise of the Shield hero already but this... this has made me go back and watch it again.

I can’t put into words just how much I love Raphtalia and how deeply I respect Naofumi.
Naofumi did shatter Raphtalia, and out of her pain, and despair brought on by hopelessness he rebuilt her to be a strong fighter, a confident self-assured woman, and loyal companion and friend.
I’m about to cry watching this amv over and over it’s so good I just want season 2 D:

This is like the perfect song for these two. They've been through so much pain, it's nice to know they have each other.

Seeing how naofumi finds someone that is just like him to some extent. Going through so much pain and being able to do nothing about it... then deciding to forge their own destiny on their own. One of the best beginning stories to a duo I've seen

Ralphtalia and Naofumi’s relationship for a few volumes in the light novels was one of psychological help they were the rock each of them need to stand on and while Ralphtalia moved past that by killing the abusive master she had (which she actively did kill him it wasn’t an accident she wanted him dead and Naofumi didn’t care.) Naofumi still need her as we are shown during volume 8 just why Ralphtalia is so important to Naofumi as without her there to cool his rage he release it and it is satisfying to read him do so.
