Titanic and Lusitania we’re not sisters. Not even remotely.
Titanic was part of a trio of ships known as the Olympic class liners.
The first of this class being The RMS Olympic. She was completed in 1911, and generally speaking, if you take away all the bells and whistle‘s, Olympic and Titanic were virtually identical.
Olympic was the only ship in the trio to survive the war and live a long, fulfilled career before being scrapped in 1935.
Next was RMS Titanic. Of course everybody knows the story of the titanic. She was completed in 1912, and left Southampton on her maiden voyage on the 10th of April.
On the 14th of April however, at 11:40 PM, Titanic struck an iceberg. The damage was severe enough to cause the ship to slowly start sinking. At 2:18 AM on the 15th of April, Titanic’s lights went out, and she broke in half. Titanic finally foundered at 2:20 AM. Two hours and 40 minutes after the collision. A total of 1496 innocent people lost their lives. 712 survived.
The third of the Olympic class was the HMHS Britannic. Britannic was intended to be the largest and grandest of the three ships, and she also shared virtually the same design as Olympic and Titanic. But her construction was almost completed in mid 1915 when the British admiralty requisitioned her as a hospital ship. Thus, her gorgeous furnishings were removed and replaced with hospital interiors and she was repainted white. Unfortunately, only 11 months into her life, on the 21st of November, 1916, she struck a mine in the aegean sea, just off of The island of Kea. She sank in only 55 minutes, rolling over on her side. 30 of the 1062 people on board perished.
Lusitania on the other hand, was a completely different story. The Olympic class were built and owned by the white star line. Lusitania along with her nearly identical sister Mauretania, were owned by the Cunard line, White star line’s direct competitor.
Lusitania was torpedoed on May 7th, 1915, by a German U-boat. She sank in only 18 minutes, with the deaths of 1195 people. Mauritania, likewise to the Olympic, had a long and fulfilled career and was also scrapped in 1935. I’m not trying to be rude or pompous or anything like that, but I highly recommend doing just a bit of research into these kind of things, before you go spewing “facts” at people. It truly is very fascinating.

And if you really want to learn about history, then I very very VERY, highly recommend the RUclips channel Titanic Honor and Glory. Titanic honor and glory is a video game project that is currently under development. The goal of the game is to digitally re-create virtually every square inch of the titanic, and allow you to experience her entire voyage and sinking in real time. The project is being run by a relatively small group of people, but they’re all extremely knowledgeable and have done extensive research into the titanic, and ocean liners in general for that matter. They also actually have the same historians that helped James Cameron work on the movie in 1997! They do videos about the game, and videos about all three of the ships. Another channel I really highly recommend is The Great Big Move. This channel is more about the history of transportation in general. But it largely focuses on ocean liners, Including the Olympic class and the Lusitania, Mauritania, Aquitania. Another thing I also recommend is simply doing your own research. Things as simple as just looking up and reading the general outline of the ships history on Wikipedia can give you a good idea about their history. Although be wary about certain theories that may pop up, such as the titanic and Olympic switch theory, the titanic coal fire theory, and so on. They’re all just really dumb conspiracy theories that are along the lines of flatearthers. Anyway, I hope this helped somewhat, I hope you have a good day.
