The number of J-20 already in service is between 180 and 250, depending on what sources are used. To put this number into perspective, most NATO airforces operate a few hundred combat aircraft, the number of J-20's alone is already bigger than most foreign airforces, not including the thousands of other aircraft used by the PLA Airforce/Navy and Army. If the total number reaches 1,000 by 2030, the J-20 fleet alone will actually outnumber the combined number of combat jets operated by the UK, Germany, France and Italy. (The RAF has 130 modern jet fighters/Germany has 280 jet fighters/France has 200 front line combat jets, including F-35/Rafael/Typhoon and Tornado). In other words, by 2030, the PLA Airforce could have as many J-20 alone, than the combined total number of modern jet fighters of Britain, Germany and France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands!

1… I expect J20 fighters to engage from stand off distances during air combat and let J10 and J16 aircraft engage in close combat. But the J20 will engage in close combat after a later generation arrives with new engines including thrust vectoring. 2… I expect China to develop a 3 engine wide variant designed for several key capabilities 2A …. Missile truck to unload a large number of long range missiles from a safe and invisible distance in support of other air combat fighters 2B …. Ship ambush with internal antiship missiles launched at high speed from a long standoff distance. Stealth from the front plus speed plus long range powerful antiship missile makes this an obvious new design direction. 2C …. The large weapons bay is ideal for Ground Support including releasing lots of weaponized drones or munitions. The large weapons bay makes an internal additional fuel tank possible for long range missions. 3…. I expect new missiles designed to fit inside the weapon’s Bay. Those PL15s could easily be much larger diameter.
No need be a missile truck in these day technology, loyal wingman will be the truck, and we saw the 2 cockpits model of the J20, so the loyal wingman is ready for J20.
Single engine? It might be too big for a single engine fighter. Correct me if possible, but the largest single engine fighter was F35, and that is nowhere near the size of J20 (F35 11m wingspan, J20 13m) J20 is much bigger than F35, F22 and even slightly bigger than but comparable to Su-57. So I don't think single engine is possible, or at least anywhere near us.
@@harveyg6398 You’re correct- the single engine version will not be the same size as J-20. The new version will be equivalent of J-10 in comparison to J-11b, but use the same engine as J-20. It was briefly revealed on the Zhuhai Airshow 2018 but disappeared soon.
The reason why J-20 don't have a gun is because it's not a dog fighter... The current J-20 works more of an Archer or Sniper in air combat, it works with a fleet of J-10/J-16, it's row will be taking out enemy high threat target from afar, tearing up enemy AS fleet, then let other J-S follow up attacks to expand the combat agevantage. The newer J-20s will have a fleet of 3-8 wingman drone that does the dirty work from dogfight to ground attacks...
what happens when you run out of missiles, because your opponent is equal, or better, so the missiles can't track correctly? Guns, guns is the answer, or you tuck tail and RTB.
@@gibbsm LOL~ Say that to a sniper, asking them to go in on a knife melee because knife never malfunction~ PLAF had already posted role regard of J20 as more of an Aerial Sniper (4 long range missiles as main weapon, and 2 short range missiles for self defense), it does not even go into dogfight range, it sneaking up to their weapon range, lock on the highest threat target, fire and fly away. And with the next modified J20 model, who will have between 3 to 8 stealth loyal wingman drone fly with them (first model of loyal wingman was publicly displayed back in 2021 as FH97A, each carries 8 smart missiles or attacking drowns), and those loyal wingman drown will carry out all mid to close range engage missions for J20, and will completely remove J20's need to even go into mid engage range...
Sure, but that's a different claim than the J-20 can *only* be an interceptor and would have to run if it met opposing fifth generation fighters. The most effective role for the J-20 would probably be hunting enemy force multipliers, but it's also perfectly capable of matching OPFOR stealth fighters if needed.
I bet the mixed aircraft type air combat training includes J10 and J16 engaging close combat while the J20 launches ambush PL15 missiles while the focus of attention is on the non stealth J10 & J16
It was an interceptor designed in mind at first, to put F22 toe-to-toe if us directly launch them from jp/kor bases, but time flies by with the progress of AI simulation and long range ATA missiles, us is holding back the idea of exsort F22 directly to China's land target, thus J20 also pivoting to a 2-seated new model which can command unmanned drones groups.
the Ventral Fins is to address the fact that there is no vertical stabilizer, rather the entire structural act as a rudder, thus the fins would serve as an inverted vertical stabilizer.
here are reports that retired warplanes such as J7 and J8 will be mothballed and transformed into drones to carry missiles in the future. "Then the battle will be controlled by a mother aircraft similar to an early warning aircraft. I am looking forward to this very innovative idea.".
I don't know too much about the J-20 and its development but I would have presumed that it was specifically designed to fight in the same battlespace as F-35's and F-22's. The PLAAF will not be hamstrung by corporate interests that are counter-productive to the nation - and by this I'm specifically referencing all operators of the F-35 that are continuously being exploited by Lockheed Martin. I honestly believe the J-20 is the best air superiority fighter in the world and I don't mean to dismiss the F-22 when I say this. However, the F-22 fleet is worn and nearing the end of its service life. With luck, these two awesome aircraft will never find themselves fighting against one another. Fantastic channel by the way! Any chance of some analysis of other Indo-Pacific nations not yet covered?
You comment is based on no concrete evidence. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that J-20 is superior to F-22. On the other hand there is a lot of evidence to suggest the other way around. First because J-20 has many anti-stealth features. It has canards, fins, and tail which are all anti-stealth features. F-22 only has tail. The miniaturization technology in China is not on the same level as in America so F-22 has or can have superior sensors.
@@ulikemyname6744 I can say the exact same thing for your claims with the F-22, it has never actually had to perform the role it was designed for against any formidable enemy aircraft. I would not say the J-20 is the best jet in the world for the same exact reason, on paper both jets appear formidable but until they notch some serious combat experience against peer competitors it's all just hot air.
I keep seeing these Western "analysts" citing RCS value of 0.5m^2 to 3m^2 for J-20. That would make sense only if it was flying with a Luneburg lens. Otherwise why would CAC develop a platform that barely has better radar signature than existing J-10?
The PL-17 is a Western designation. Western intelligence thought that was what it would be called. The official PLA designation for that missile is the PL-21. 500km range for engaging force multipliers.
PL-21 and PL-17 are two different missiles from what I read. One is for J-20, the other is for J-16 and J10 since it's too big to fit in the weapon bay

Despite your heavy German accent, on your site, I found a number of new information which I didn't hear before. Can you give us some information about the new Chinese H-20, a B-21 Ryder counterpart?
it's really impossible, even as a Chinese, it is quite difficult for us to know any news about the progress of H20. What I can tell you is that the H20 may not appear in the short term. According to some rumors, the PLAAF has changed its development plan for stealth bombers for some reasons and even changed the original design. For instance, the 003 aircraft carrier was changed from steam ejection to electromagnetic ejection during construction in 2017 and it caused some delay of the entire project. So it may be several years before we see China's stealth bombers. All in all, this is a highly confidential matter, and ordinary Chinese citizens even an engineer in AVIC can't know anything about H20 :)
It’s just a matter of covering up another topic that doesn’t want the public to pay attention to with a hot spot that attracts attention. We Chinese all know that what you can see is what you want to see, and you can’t see what you can’t see. No, don't Americans who are free, democratic and free of speech understand?

Although yes a secondary weapon, there is a reason still that almost all other modern aircraft continue to be built with internal guns. No missile works 100% of the time. And sometimes you have to get in close and dirty where a fighter without a gun will be at a disadvantage to one that does.
Pakistan owns any 5th gen fighter will trigger India to acquire more. so be best strategy for the PAT is to follow but not to lead and ignite the Indians. China's support to Pakistan will obsord India's effort of investing more into air forces with a fraction of cost.
F15 and f15 are very old, the frames and metals are weaken because of ages. F22 is a very short combat range, only 800km. They are not comparable, especially combat at front of china front yard. China has J20S that can control the loyal wingman.
The J-20 is an absolutely beautiful plane, it has an incredible fuel capacity that provides it a lot of options operationally. Though it’s going to be up against the NGAD and F/A-XX more so than the F-22, the US is getting ready to roll out their sixth generation air superiority fighters while the PLAF is still trying to get the J-20 up to speed with the F-22, a plane that conducted its maiden flight in 1997…
neither F/A xx nor NGAD is anywhere near ready for production. J20 is already more numerous than F22, so you can hardly call it “still trying to get up to speed”. By 2030, when the two US fighter programs are expected to start deployment, China would have own 6th generation fighter too.
@@xsu-is7vq True, though very unlikely it’s going to compete with what the US is doing and probably will be years behind in production. The US is fully focused on those programs now, where China is still heavily focused on the J-20. They’re in a comfortable place with their F-22 and F-35 programs.
@@JD-dm1uj honestly I don’t think anything your said previously would turn out to be true. US 6th gen fighters are planned for deployment sometime during the 2030’s. LM’s prototype contract runs to 2032. Give a few more years for preproduction, testing, ramping up production, training, etc., realistically it’s end of 2030’s before combat ready. Impressive for J-20 program to seemingly have worked through it's engine woes, the most complex and important component any air superiority system. From all independent evaluations, it appears the J-20 airframe is not very stealthy though, so while it could go 'toe to toe' with other 5th gen aircraft, I wouldn't want to be a J-20 pilot in that scenario, as you're more of a 'target' than a threat, but the PLA is making enormous strides in military aircraft, perhaps the next generation will have the stealth to survive in a modern combat environment, and be truly competitive, it's just too bad this tech will likely be controlled based on the whims of a single authoritarian leader, let's hope by the 30s for more responsible and representative Chinese leadership.
I agree with the comment at 4:14 of the video that the J20 will retreat at the first sign of serious trouble. I think that assessment is wrong even illogical.
Stealth aircraft need to stay out of radar range at all times. Thus the BVR PL15s as its main weapon. Close in missile trucks will overwhelm stealth once detected
It took two missiles to down the balloon which is the size of a barn and is made of highly radar reflective material. What does that say about the quality of US A2A missiles.
J10 fighter actually did so with PL8 missiles around 15 years ago the difference is China do not think its a kind of threat or something, although the real American spy camera was actually found on the ground during the cold war, the Soviet Union as well as China actually shoot down more than 30 nato spy planes and spy drones, and about the baloons, the number is hard to count actually the documentory have been played on TV several times when military channel can not find anything new, actually the tv show did not actually say where was the baloons from, but i actually know recent years that the baloons was actually released in some where near Korea and there are also several baloons were released everywhere near China, us army may under estimated the air defense capability of peoples army, so when they found the truth they actually stopped and try something new maybe its not a news actually, we all survived the cold war, such small toys are everywhere in the cold war, China actually captured more than 100 unmanned spy ships and spy submarines in Chinese near sea, actually the most uninterceptable and the most impressive spy craft is American D21 drone, it can be launched by b52 bomber or SR71 and can fly at mach 3.2, but actually the 70s tech are not good enough to guide the super sonic spy drone, few of them simply crash on west China and one of them are on show now in the military museum in Beijing
The main critiques of the J20 are 1. The presumably much worse stealth compared to the American jets and 2. Worse controls and data presentation. The f35 had apparently a lot of data processing going on, so that the pilot can focus on relevant decisions. These seem to be areas, where the J20 still may be at a disadvantage.
I don’t know where u get your info about the US perception. Everything I’ve seen has not said it was an “interceptor”. The jet has been given respect in the west from what I’ve seen.
All those little bits n bobs n flaps that can be clearly seen on the J-20 fuselage will make it light up like a Christmas tree on radar. Every little sensor and non-serrated flap/edge opening also adds to the RCS, as well as the visual lack of RAM on the leading edges and other exposed edges.
If the J-20 is the PLAAF version of the F-22 even with a EOTS like the F-35 I'd imagine a similar air to ground type load out as the F-22A because there was consideration to replace the F-15E in the deep strike role probably nothing "fancy" for now nothing a J-16/J-15/J-10 can't do so GPS/Laser Bombs and SDB type weapons for the internal weapon bay maybe stand off weapons on the wing hard ponts but again the J-16 like the F-15E/EX and Su-30 family can and in the case of the F-15E do carry long range cruise missile JASSM and likely JASSM-ER making using a F-22 or F-35 for that role pointless though if the PLAAF end up with let's say 400 J-20 it could happen and of course depends on if the PLAAF go with the "J-35"/FC-31 or something else like a 6th gen fighter
I'm aware that there might not be enough reliable information about next generation bomber h20, but could you do a video explaining what kind of ability that this new bomber are expected to have?
ive been searching high and low for that too..... im intrigued about the adjustable stabilisers that one of the concept models show too and wondering if the h20 will have those to enable better mobility at the detriment of stealth
well done on an in depth video too oh do you also know anything about any further heavy lift craft, there was rumours about a chinese group interested in the Antonov AN 225 Mriya??.... another bigger larger Y20?
The industrial productivity of the United States is way behind China which nobody can deny. The only area of weapon that the United States is still leading China is their nuclear submarines. Some argued that aircraft carrier is a other one as none of the China aircraft carrier are nuclear powered. Nuclear power is considered conventional in the view of China, China did not build one as the maintenance cost is tremendous.
I think the idea of china cranking out 1000 J20s by 2030 seems ridiculous, There isn't a need for that many as china doesn't have vast overseas bases put them. Plus I think china would devote at least some of those new facilities to producing J31s and H20s
China has almost 500 obsolete J7 and J8s which needed to be retired years ago. And another 800 J-10s and J-11s some of which are getting long in the tooth as well. They need to make another 1000 jets in the next 10 years just to replenish the ones that get retired out. Of course it might not make sense that all 1000 will be replaced with the heavy expensive J20s, but perhaps Chengdu has a lighter single engine version in development, and all that factory space can used to just crank out that new plane in 5 years time.
@@tren133 J10As will be replaced by more capable J10Cs or whatever comes after them. J11s are replaced with J16s And older J7 and J8s would likely be replaced by a mix of J10Cs and J16s with maybe 20% being replaced by J20s for a well rounded military. I really dont see the appeal in copying the US by trying to make one platform do everything.
The PL-15 has a 300km range. the Export version has a 200km range. I seriously doubt the PLAAF is going to use the lesser range missile as the long range gives the PLAAF free shots at the enemy aircraft without having to worry about return fire.
We can't take range numbers at face value, when a Missile chases a target that's cold their range decreases by many magnitudes. No missile in service in the world actually hits at their theoretical range.
@@raphaelgarcia6121Range matters, the target information not necessary need to be gathered by the launching platform. It could be more powerful ground radars or the one on AWACS planes or even drones in front of them. Long range would give more time for dodging enemy missiles after launching yours.
@@raphaelgarcia6121 i dont think u get what i was saying. in artillery warfare there are something called spotters, the unit that fires the cannon dont have to be the one who locate enemy units. so called steath is only steath in certain radar wave length, and certain angles. for example, if you have ground radars spead out, using different wave length, nothing is steath. or it might be hard for detect when doing 1 on 1. but would be easy when using awacs plane that has a 10x more powerful radar.
It is also 40% larger compared to AMRAAM. And certainly one of the heaviest. So it's not as maneuverable compared to Meteor, or the lesser range AIM-120, and even the upcoming AIM-260 JATM. It's only good against bigger and slower aircraft.
I'm wondering how much it costs China to build this. Because the US's F-35 program is believed to cost us 1.7 trillion. If our ultra-expensive F-35's can't compete with these Chinese fighter jets, then we pretty lose control of the skies.
@@theconcubin3 I just think its stupid (not to mention a huge waste of taxpayers' dollars) to have to spend that much just to build the most advanced fighter jets possible. I don't agree with you on guns. First I think it's quite useful in combats, particularly for 5th gen fighters. It's a very lethal weapon in the hands of experienced pilots. Due to stealth capabilities, close combat of 5th gen are quite possible, if not more likely than 4th gen. Though modern fox2s are quite good, there's still a big chance they'll miss target. Would be quite awkward to fire both and miss and be left with no weapon. The reasons j20 does not have a gun are probably 1 that China did not have a good gun when developing j20 (j10 has a mediocre Russian gun), and 2 the designer made a bet. A gun system is quite heavy and on a stealth fighter even more as there must also be a stealthy hatch that opens instantly when trigger is pulled. The weight saved by scraping gun could be used elsewhere like more fuel, avionics or missiles. Though nobody knows what will happen in real combats. Could be as awkward as F4 in Vietnam, or could be this is end of guns and beginning of drones. The other thing is I don't think they'll put gun on j20. Too late they already made the bet.
You said it very well. During the Vietnam War, many F4s were shot down by MiGs, but it has been several decades now. Modern air to air missiles can be launched in a large off axis direction and have a much higher hit rate than machine guns. The J20's close range combat missile is only configured for self-defense. When you see a J20, the J10C next to it may already be eager to play dog fighting with you
I always wonder are missile trucks such as J16 survivable or not under the attack of long range air to air missiles. Those missiles might penetrate j20 surveillance area and lock onto missile trucks in depth. How to improve the survivability of old/larger planes against long range air to air missiles is crucial. Maybe laser counter measures can be install on heavy gen4 fighters in the future?
J16 isn't any less survivable than any other flankers. Even with far larger payload, it's still a flankers airframe, it can turn fine. Not to mention ewar capabilities.

Those canards and size of the aircraft kill stealth. Easy bvr targets for the raptor lol

1… I expect J20 fighters to engage from stand off distances during air combat and let J10 and J16 aircraft engage in close combat. But the J20 will engage in close combat after a later generation arrives with new engines including thrust vectoring.
2… I expect China to develop a 3 engine wide variant designed for several key capabilities
2A …. Missile truck to unload a large number of long range missiles from a safe and invisible distance in support of other air combat fighters
Another amazing video, would be awesome if you did videos on the PL15 and other long range air to air missile and the upcoming J31 fighter.
J-20 is a lot cooler looking and more capable than the F-35, that's always being grounded! A real lemon!
Quality video as usual. Soon we will see single engine version of J-20, in addition to J-35 which is under testing.
Two engines are better
@@harveyg6398 You’re correct- the single engine version will not be the same size as J-20.
The new version will be equivalent of J-10 in comparison to J-11b, but use the same engine as J-20.

The newer J-20s will have a fleet of 3-8 wingman drone that does the dirty work from dogfight to ground attacks...

PLAF had already posted role regard of J20 as more of an Aerial Sniper (4 long range missiles as main weapon, and 2 short range missiles for self defense), it does not even go into dogfight range, it sneaking up to their weapon range, lock on the highest threat target, fire and fly away.
I mean, it can be an interceptor too and will probably excel at that role even with the PL-15.
@@duyataksis5210 Oh agreed. the J-20 is definitely a multi-role jet with air superiority as its primary role and mission.
True that
It was an interceptor designed in mind at first, to put F22 toe-to-toe if us directly launch them from jp/kor bases, but time flies by with the progress of AI simulation and long range ATA missiles, us is holding back the idea of exsort F22 directly to China's land target, thus J20 also pivoting to a 2-seated new model which can command unmanned drones groups.

Well it doesn't take luck. It only takes America backing off from trying to start shit.

The PL-17 is a Western designation. Western intelligence thought that was what it would be called. The official PLA designation for that missile is the PL-21. 500km range for engaging force multipliers.
PL-21 and PL-17 are two different missiles from what I read. One is for J-20, the other is for J-16 and J10 since it's too big to fit in the weapon bay

it's really impossible, even as a Chinese, it is quite difficult for us to know any news about the progress of H20.
Although yes a secondary weapon, there is a reason still that almost all other modern aircraft continue to be built with internal guns. No missile works 100% of the time. And sometimes you have to get in close and dirty where a fighter without a gun will be at a disadvantage to one that does.
We love to see J20 in pakistan air force max in next 5 yrs when its latest engine is ready
I doubt China would export J-20 before it's 6gen fighter enters service. J-31/35 is for export tho.

@@creatormaxi8324 The F-15EX is a new plane entirely with 5th Gen radars.
So that’s something like 15 years away. A LOT could change in 15 years. 15 years ago China was still ramping up J-10.

1000 j20s is an incredible number
Wait, is j20 canopy frameless? 5:10
Same as F-35
I agree with the comment at 4:14 of the video that the J20 will retreat at the first sign of serious trouble. I think that assessment is wrong even illogical.
Stealth aircraft need to stay out of radar range at all times. Thus the BVR PL15s as its main weapon. Close in missile trucks will overwhelm stealth once detected
Not the dreaded, undefeatable, DIAMOND FLYING FORMATION?!?!!!!!1111one!
Only the f22 has a proven history of destroying weather baloons.
Kinda a high bar dont ya think?
It took two missiles to down the balloon which is the size of a barn and is made of highly radar reflective material. What does that say about the quality of US A2A missiles.
weather balloons destruction is an obsolete way of proving a high technology capability and China just laughing out loud on U.S.
J10 fighter actually did so with PL8 missiles around 15 years ago
the difference is China do not think its a kind of threat or something, although the real American spy camera was actually found on the ground
during the cold war, the Soviet Union as well as China actually shoot down more than 30 nato spy planes and spy drones, and about the baloons, the number is hard to count
actually the documentory have been played on TV several times when military channel can not find anything new, actually the tv show did not actually say where was the baloons from, but i actually know recent years that the baloons was actually released in some where near Korea and there are also several baloons were released everywhere near China, us army may under estimated the air defense capability of peoples army, so when they found the truth they actually stopped and try something new maybe
its not a news actually, we all survived the cold war, such small toys are everywhere in the cold war, China actually captured more than 100 unmanned spy ships and spy submarines in Chinese near sea, actually the most uninterceptable and the most impressive spy craft is American D21 drone, it can be launched by b52 bomber or SR71 and can fly at mach 3.2, but actually the 70s tech are not good enough to guide the super sonic spy drone, few of them simply crash on west China and one of them are on show now in the military museum in Beijing
And j20 even dont have that😂
The main critiques of the J20 are 1.
The J-20 wings are too high, like a cargo plane. Should be closer to the mid-riff, hehe.

None of these planes fight in isolation they are part of an integrated platform.
remember to add 20+ years into the calculation between F22 and J20, since China is at least that far behind.
The industrial productivity of the United States is way behind China which nobody can deny. The only area of weapon that the United States is still leading China is their nuclear submarines. Some argued that aircraft carrier is a other one as none of the China aircraft carrier are nuclear powered. Nuclear power is considered conventional in the view of China, China did not build one as the maintenance cost is tremendous.
the j-20 can carry the pl-21vlraam that can be horn in by s beudu sattellite
I think the idea of china cranking out 1000 J20s by 2030 seems ridiculous, There isn't a need for that many as china doesn't have vast overseas bases put them.
Plus I think china would devote at least some of those new facilities to producing J31s and H20s
J31/35 and J20 are developed by different companies. J20 is from Chengdu corp and J31/35 is from Shenyang corp.
I seriously doubt the PLAAF is going to use the lesser range missile as the long range gives the PLAAF free shots at the enemy aircraft without having to worry about return fire.
longest range/effective range/unscape range are completely different things.

@@raphaelgarcia6121Range matters, the target information not necessary need to be gathered by the launching platform. It could be more powerful ground radars or the one on AWACS planes or even drones in front of them. Long range would give more time for dodging enemy missiles after launching yours.

The US industrial complex needs to be fed first before going into using the funds for the actual purpose😅

Loyal wingman drones
With only 4 PL15s, the J20 is very vulnerable to missile trucks like F15EX once in range. J16s can defend against that threat
J16 isn't any less survivable than any other flankers. Even with far larger payload, it's still a flankers airframe, it can turn fine. Not to mention ewar capabilities.
@@georgedang449 not comparing it to other flankers, I’m comparing it to j20
@@nepenthy9804 Of course 4.5 gen isn't as survivable compared to 5th gen. 5th gen can't be a missile truck to to limitations of internal bay.
Apparently it is a lot less stealthy than the F35. It is not the same league.
Source?
If it's something to do with the canards, then you should know that the Rafale and Eurofighter have the lowest RCS of all 4th gen aircraft.
No, this was all propaganda. China has made a plane as stealthy as the F-35, as they mainly stole the US documents.

Я думаю, что китайским пилотам сейчас больше всего нужен боевой опыт, так что США должны постараться
No, China keeps training, as they know that US pilots are some of the best of the best.
Literally every channel I watch is american biased like what??? I used to watch not what you think and then now it is "China's stolen stealth fighter is problematic" type bullshit. except this channel of course
I recommend SU 57 than this 🤔
I hope all this planes can save our planet from nuclear destruction!!! 😂😂😂
Compro 30.000 unidades para a marinha do Brasil
Compro 30.000 unidades para a força aéria brasileira
This would be a waste to use on war with Taiwan. I’m sure the J-15, J-16, and J-10 are sufficient to counter ROCAFs F-16V, IDF, and Mirages.
