I think yay was IGLing too, it's so hard to play duelist and at the same time lead a team, yay was able to perform so well last year because of fns, since he had a really good igl his priorities would be duels, but rn he is doing the two jobs, gotta be exhausting

I'm pretty sure he was doing that job, plus his first official match in a long time. I'm not excusing yays bad performance in these matches, they're facts and maybe he didn't kill that much but we can see he was doing a lot of calls. Clear only played aggressive characters, so it ended with him being killed a lot in the first round with smoker, or was scared because didn't have a way out. I think with time we could see a lot of good plays from this team.

I think the issue is basically people don’t get comfortable on their role yet. Oxygen has been playing together as a team for much longer. DSG new roster has played for 1-2 weeks only (and you can see it in their play, doesn’t look like a team in a lot of scenarios yet). I’d give them some time to figure out their new roles. Either it be Yay on Jett, Steel as initiator, and Clear on smoke.
On the real tho, Yay was set-up to fail with the lack of coordination between him & the initiator. At this point you gotta start asking questions of the coach (partly the IGL) because they’ve been having problems setting up their duelist & initiator well since open qualifiers.

Every high level jett flicks their mouse to both sides in these scenarios precisely to clear these angles on the minimap. For any top tier entry your job is 100% to clear angles and then push to create pressure if that’s the call. You say that that’s not his job as if he couldn’t have easily cleared it. A better jett that we see plenty of in tier 1 would have cleared that angle by quickly flicking it. Unfortunately it seems Yay is not up to par in that regard.

However, it is important to take into account that Yay's reaction time and consistency were not on point, which put the DSG team in trouble. Additionally, most of Yay's kills were on the defensive side, which is good but not what is expected from a duelist who should be winning engagements primarily on the offensive side.
What's wrong with YAY switching weapons/abilities on retake/clutch situations? On that note: Something is wrong with Steel being an initiator, not effective as an IGL
The amount the roles in this game matter is highly oversold by the community. The specific agent matters. Skye is definitely okay for IGLs because you have a lot of the utility you'd typically call for anyway, and you're also typically supplementing a push not leading it. Breach is mostly the same to be honest. He definitely gets a little too close to trying to open up sites himself and maybe that busies it up a little too much, but it's not like trying to IGL on Jett... or Raze... or even something like KJ.

Yay’s unfortunately a very 1 dimensional player. He excels in very specific circumstances but if he’s not comfortable he just won’t perform well at all.
It's not copium. Most people expect 1 team to do well 100% of the time. But if you like a team just because they win 100% of the time you don't really like the team as much as the feel of winning.
1 week practice is objectively not enough. You can clearly see that especially on Haven, they got read like a book. Even in pearl they always had the read. Top notch igl'ing on their part, but also shows that because dsg had so little time to practice, there were very few executions they could have made, so the read was easier. I'm sure they'll be back.

You have to make sure people don’t have problems with each other and that their schedules align perfectly along with a coach that has a similar mindset to the team and with you. You have to make sure your community knows the players so he has to as the players to market dsg while they stream as well. A lot of money goes into it, and the risk is much higher so nothing in it is easy, even the money contract is not at all “easy”.
i think what they should do is put clear on duelist or initiator and put yay on sentinel or initiator because as tarik said its better if yay entries second cuz you know he can actually finish the job than him being the entry cuz if he get killed first dsg cannot use the full potential of yay's insane aim

But I think he lost the chance of being in the team that made him what he is just for money which he will eventually get anyways. Fns is the best igl in NA. Optic/NRG guys are the only ones that went par with teams like loud, drx again and again.
Recent match has nothing to do with team, yay missed a lot of op shots, died to literal vandals in long distance with n op, barely kill anyone with his ult by missing all the knives, couldn't win most of his duels as a duelist in attack and never checked the very basic angle mormally people checks and many more.. most probably he was nerbous playing after a long time in compi, so he will be there..
