The SCAR 20 may be a better value to a civilian or leisure plinker, but I bet a 40,000 round test with hard use in less than ideal conditions the SCAR malfunctions more significantly and more often. Plus, its my understanding FN voids the warranty with the use of a suppressor. The price is the only thing working in FN's favor in this comparison.

The m110's, Mk13's, mk12's etc are pieces of history. I just bought a Mk 12. There are many better 5.56 rifles out there than the Mk12, but I like military rifles in the configuration they came in when they were in use.

The SCARs are sensitive to back pressure from some types of loads/suppressors. US military SCARs use a special suppressor for this reason. FN doesn’t want to deal with civilian customers that run super hot loads suppressed and damage their rifles. If you do run suppressed, I’m told running a surefire or OSS will be fine out of the box. Other brands might require changing the gas port size.
I think the manual actually states ‘the use of pappy’s pissin’ hot handloads in conjunction with a suppression device will void warranty, and you’re gonna have a bad time, m’kay’
Not having a scar, I have a feeling "voiding the warranty" is words used to scare people from using any suppressor so that way if you do and you send an email and pictures on a potential hypothetical failure they can say "well it wasn't our genius, perfect gun that we designed, it was the can we told you not to put on, you did it, not our fault" and then turn around and say "hey i think that one part is fucked up, weve been having a lot of pissed off people over it. Let's fix it and make a new piece and call it an "upgrade."

They don't warranty anything that has had a suppressor on it. A dude in a NFA group I'm in couldn't even get replacement rivets for his m240 because he put a suppressor on it

Andy, I am smart enough to know that I do not have the expertise to build a gun that would rival the two you have here in terms of quality, engineering, reliability and accuracy. Hence why I am the owner of a SCAR 20s! lol As for the mounts, I've gone with Spuhr QDP. Yes a little heavy, but keeps a zero better than any other mount I've used yet. Great content!
I love my scar 20 and i handload 165g sierras and i run my hybrid 36 all the time. Never EVER had an issue. Bottom line dont run shit ammo in such a great rifle. I have a zev AR-10 i use for factory loads and she helps feed the scar the good leftovers.

Have you ever considered an HK M110 A1 CSASS clone ? Those things are so dope but parts are stupid hard to find. That paired with the G28 stock and you have a nice piston system that's not as long as the Scar 20. Granted their both piston guns, but the HK still sorta keeps the AR vibe. For some reason HK also recommends running only OSS cans on the MR762, but people on different forums have ran surefire cans with no problems. Either way, sweet gear dude.
I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I don't think you could find as much as 5 people who would pick a Mk17 over an M110 or even a Mk11 for that matter. The Scar is always breaking parts and destroying glass, especially when suppressed. The reciprocating charging handle on something that is designed to be an LR gun is also ridiculous. The fact that Mk11s are still in service along with M110s speaks for itself. I personally wouldn't trade my M110 for x2 Scars, but that's just me. I don't think there's a single video on YT where someone who deployed with a Mk17 said they would like to continue doing so. My only complaint about the M110 was that they were issued with 10x scopes which is trash for anything

I would match rather go with a LaRue OBR, or a DD. it is fucked up to say however, my M5E1 with custom barrel/tuned action still puts up sub MOA groups, but you're right, nobody gives a fuck at the range. If looks and talks are your thing, spend the 15k. if you're about performance and outcome, I would spend a third as much and get something MUCH more effective.
No matter what you build it will never have the value of the real thing. Doesn’t mean your build isn’t great but some weapons are investments. Personally I think best bang for the buck high end is LMT MARS H. Shit can that monopod for a bag. 😂
