As an outside observer (having only taken an interest in Spurs because Ange is there) it appears to me that the toxic and vocal minority of Spurs fans, psychologically damaged by Spurs’ history, and sporting nervous tics and hand wringing, are simply unable to deal with reality. Things take time. Players aren’t always perfect. Support them. Support the club. Get real!

I wonder how many of these "so called" Spurs fans bagging out DL / AP are actually Spurs fans.. maybe short memories, Arsenal fans in disguise, bots, 14 y/o Liverpool keyboard worriers. I'd take ENIC over Sugar any day. AP over Mourinho (and many other managers in the past, Potch / Rednapp being the exceptions). All the stats are looking very good in AP's second year. I have a lot of Arsenal fans and they were hurting in the 3 years of 8, 8, 5 (Three years!!). Watch the press turn when Spurs string 3 or 4 wins together..

    1,000% spot on, Barnaby!
I have written many Strategic Plans in my corporate life, where the question that must be addressed is, “How do we succeed when there are so many competitors, some of which have much better resources?”
The same question applies in sport and Ange understands he needs to bring something different to the table and that he must execute the plan at the highest level to be successful.
I believe Ange is open to being more flexible, but only once the team can execute is plan consistently at the highest level. Until then, he MUST be dogged in driving home the dogma he believes is the path with the best probability of success.
As a fellow Aussie, can I just add that we are actually okay with losing, as long as we dedicated everything single ounce of our being to winning. And that dedication starts in our belief that we will win. Spurs British fans seem to culturally struggle with that belief. Yet belief is the precursor to playing with the confidence to win against anyone who stands between you and your road to success. Ange is instilling belief in the players. Spurs fans can help instil belief in the players too by supporting Ange’s plan, even when they lose.

    • @richardjames123

Ange specifically said success isn’t a priority. He wants to play ‘the Spurs Way’ which is a sound bite straight from the club. Ange may have success at previous clubs, but this is Tottenham where many winning managers fail. Ange has shown himself now to be the ultimate yes man, relaying quotes given to him by the club. We will win nothing under Ange. I’m sure of it now. Winning trophies is obviously challenging and it needs to be a priority for the manager and the club. It’s not for the club and Ange is in alignment. I’m saddened to see the state of our club now. Honestly, there’s many fans clinging on to hope, but you’ll see in time, sadly.

"As a fellow Aussie" That right there kind of destroys the credibility of your comments.
Have you seen the packed out stadium with every one of the most expensive seats in world football occupied by us British Spurs fans? I guess you have but only on TV
Do you hear "Ange out" chants on TV when you watch the game? No? why is that?
The guy has been backed by everyone, the fans, the board, even Robbie Williams but the problem with your BS "Strategic plan" is that it only works against bottom half teams.
The fact of the matter is while Ange is playing snap and patting himself on the back, the adult managers in the PL are playing 3 dimensional chess.
Perhaps the board of directors at Spurs should have less corporate type w***ers and more football people instead.

The Board has always been a disappointment as in that they never chased the League or supported managers when we had a chance of winning it, the early 70's and 80's spring to mind! @@MathewBall hang on … If Villa put out a second team that’s ok? But not for spurs? Villa didn’t even put senior players on the bench.
To say Villa are “playing well” in the league is debatable too. I would argue that spurs are playing well but hadn’t got the results (after the first 4 games). Villa are scrapping through wins by coming from behind in most matches.
Villa last won a trophy in 1996 but used to be one of the big clubs. So on nearly every point of reference, they are worth comparing to spurs. And only nearly every point of reference we have done better in recent memory. The exception being a marginal points difference last year which put them in CL. If we had got 4th then exactly the same people would have complained that CL “isn’t a trophy”.

Our pace and tempo was brilliant and I would love to see more of it. I am still not convinced this football will beat the the best in this league. We have just seen Arsenal park the bus against city we know they take their clean sheets seriously, they take their set pieces seriously and have their own coach, we do none of this. But getting to champions league final is on another level, I went mental when Moura scored the winner against Ajax. I can understand younger fans wanting to win a trophy, perhaps I'm lucky to have been around when we were a cup winning side. But I want different things now, I want sustained performance and a title challenging team. I wish Levy would push the boat out and sign the players the manager wants, to get us back to the promised land. Daniel Levy's grip on Tottenham Hotspur remains ironclad. Will we witness a trophy parade under his stewardship by 2044? It seems highly improbable. For Levy, Champions League qualification reigns supreme, overshadowing the pursuit of silverware. His business acumen is clear: maximize profits for ENIC & Co. Every penny is extracted from the club, and he understands that as long as he continues to dangle enticing promises before the fans, they'll remain placated.
Will Ange Postecoglou survive another season without a top-four finish? It will be fascinating to observe. Ultimately, Levy's priority is profit. A two-year absence from the Champions League translates to a significant revenue shortfall. He's a businessman first, a fan second.

Levy is a smart businessman, he understands that keeping the carrot dangling in front of the donkey will keep the donkey walking forward no questions asked. If you feed the donkey he will only feel satisfied temporarily and then ask for more. This is not a desirable business model. Tottenham fans are a cash cow to him and his benefactors, nothing more. Spurs winning the league cup in '08 was an unexpected accident I would imagine, not part of the plan. Why would you sack your manager 5 days out from a CL final? Only if you are orchestrating a defeat. Sad situation. Can Ange fight the power? He is smart enough to do it without criticising the corporation in the process. Time will tell, fingers x'ed.

Anyone who thinks Ange is only playing this way because he's been told to are not just fools but so foolish they should not be making comment. You know the saying about opening your mouth and proving you're a fool? That one. It's mind numbingly stupid that they take comments like that so literally. What happened to critical thinking in the world? It's really quite simple - Ange has ALWAYS played this way. and every step of the way was told he was naive, until he wasn't. Every step of the way told "this step is too big, this isn't Australia, this isn't Japan, this isn't Scotland". Yes, it's the biggest step, but to assume it won't work instead of actually giving it a go is so crazy, especially for Spurs. Ange can make teams punch above their weight. Yes, that will come with a few knockouts along the way, it might not work - but that's the case with EVERY manager. Conte and Mourinho both previous EPL winners, couldn't do it. Barely tried and just whinged. Ange is rolling up his sleeves and having a go. If anyone can bring success with a squad that will always be no better than the 5th-7th best in the league, it's Ange. Every other manager will be dour and unsuccessful, and/or just complain. Imagine Harry Kane in that team last season. This season. Conte and Mourinho had that. What if they didn't? Goodness me.
The performances have been good this season, unlike last. People saying there is no progress are dreaming. People complaining about the Arsenal game are dreaming! They are the clear 2nd best team in the league, and very good defensively. It was tough and showed improvement needed in the forward 3rd only because there was dominance in the other areas. Arsenal barely created a decent chance, yet people were crying saying they "cut us open". I wonder if they watch the games or just look at the results and commentate. Ange already proved including at the end of last season his teams can go toe to toe with the best. He doesn't create teams to be good enough to beat Leicester and Forrest, he creates teams that can beat City and Madrid. That is where he is trying to get to. I am sure he feels if and when he does that, they should also be good enough to take care of the lesser teams parking the bus. That is the goal.

Nonsense, this whole we just can't buy the top quality players is crap! Other teams pull that off. Buying top quality experienced ready-made players does and can work Spurs are just determined to spend as little as possible while only signing unproven, unexperienced young players. You can't win major trophies with an average youth team! There is a chance Spurs could win a League Cup here and there. Portsmouth and Wigan managed to win trophies so Spurs could win the odd one here and there. As long as you're happy with just attractive football and a couple of either League Cup or F.A. Cup's, I'm in no doubt half our fan base. Would be happy with that or just attractive football!

Regarding Ange, pragmatism and defense - the comparisons to Nuno, Jose, Conte are a bit of a false dichotomy.
What about comparing to 2016/17 under Poch And Toby, Jan, Danny and Kyle?
We finished 2nd in the league with 86 points, had the best goal differential in the league, 8 better than Chelsea under Conte, scoring one more goal than them.
And we conceded the fewest goals - 26 - of any team, 7 fewer than Chelsea.
I don’t recall that season as “boring” by any stretch of the imagination. Quite the opposite - Harry was scoring for fun, 29 league goals, 35 all competitions.
The point being that we have a recent example of attacking football that was also exceptionally sound defensively, showing that the two are not mutually exclusive.
I would have asked Ange to compare and contrast his style/tactics/philosophy with Poch’s, and specifically the 2016/17 team.

Football is the last concern they put profit above everything from every division Beyoncé gocarts american football and lastly our football club. We can’t compete with Arsenal. The common denominator is Levy Spurs is a football club 1st and last remember the garbage is we do Beyoncé we will buy better players ? More games then buy more players

"Let me know if you think differently" Your words, now lets see if this gets deleted.
Barnaby you are talking like you have been Levy'd
You have no idea what Spurs fans want and you certainly do not speak for the fans.
Spurs fans (and I mean proper Spurs fans that have supported the club for more than 5 minutes and have witnessed with our own eyes Spurs players lifting trophies) want to see us lift silverware again first a foremost.
Proper Spurs fans did not want one of the greatest managers in history to be sacked a few days before a cup final. Tell me if I'm wrong.
Proper Spurs fans did not want another great manager sacked because he took us from 14th to 4th and then the following year get sacked while in 4th place. Tell me if I'm wrong
Proper Spurs fans did not want our manager to ignore Eze and instead sign Werner TWICE. Again tel me if I'm wrong.
Proper Spurs fans do not want to lose to Arsenal AT HOME 3 years running and be beaten at home in our 5 yr old stadium more than we have won in their 20+ yr old stadium.
Another example of thinking differently is reminding you how the younger generation think an idea is new just because they haven't seen it before themselves.
Ardiles tried the "outscore the opposition" approach. You might be way too young to remember so ask your dad, how did that work out? and he had Klinsmann, the deadliest striker on the planet.
This is the strategy of a child.
You have no idea what the owners want if you think that they really care what style of football we play.
All they care about is taking the heat off Levy, expanding their property portfolio and keeping the money rolling in and anyone who can't see this is an idiot, sorry.
"Forum" definition. A meeting where ideas and views of a particular issue can be exchanged.
Read that, read it again and tell me if this is what happened that night.
Explain to us if vetting the attendees, and cherrypicking the questions (with follow up questions banned) is anything other than a total disgrace.

France dropped a domestic cup few years ago. It’s down to England in top tier and Portugal next level with two domestic cups. Gains by france for dropping a domestic cup really went unnoticeable. Though taking account for lost revenue from losing a massive broadcast deal would have just glanced over the dropping of a cup tournament. Could it be the same in England. I believe , to Levy dismay, allowing for larger domestic roster can avoid the French decision.
Lastly Barnaby don’t forget Tanguy has the most pitch minutes for field players at Nizzi.

Don't agree with you Barnaby. Ange's honeymoon period ended 10 games into last season.
He is too dogmatic and stubborn with his Gung - Ho attitude. He has to give consideration to the defensive side of the game because it is necessary.
I'm not talking about abandoning an attacking philosophy; but I an saying don't leave dirty great gaps in behind where you are giving your opponents a free hit.
Ange is being naive and stupid.
It seems to me that Daniel Levy wants Spurs to be a middle of the road team as long as he gets his financial goals met. Playing attractive football only gets you so far. In the end. It has to come with results or you are going to lose your best players and as a consequence the product you are selling will diminish. I cant see prospective minor investor's buying into that scenario at all.
Ange is just a Levy puppet, and he is just very lucky that Brentford had half their team missing last week-end.
I was giving him the benefit of the doubt against Brentford, in that he was seeing the necessity to be a little more pragmatic, and I am just sick of him being interpreted as if he is the Messiah, instead of just listening to the words he is saying.
He is not going to change and is just using this, his retirement gig, to make himself the target and is giving Levy a free ride. COYS.
