As kid in the 80s...i absolutely loved Chuck E Cheese and Showbiz Pizza. I recall a CEC in Vancouver that had 2 floors, the arcade was upstairs...it was epic. Back then the lighting was super dim/dark and that was part of the magic...in 90s/00s it started getting brighter and blander, more like a hospital. If you didn't go in the 80s then you have no idea what it was like.
Pizza Time Theatre was definitely better than the Chuck E. Cheese era I grew up with, you had guest stars and extra rooms with more character performing.
I was born in 1996 , and Chuck E. Cheese was one of my favorite places to go for birthday parties ! The animatronics were my favorite part , even though I was terrified of them ! I love that they decided to keep the animatronics , it’s such a staple . It’s a shame that they changed the design ! It’s so bland .

I was watching five nights at Freddy's with my son and remembered the creepy showbiz pizza place animatronics they had. I did always enjoy the gorilla though. Not to sound like a old man but Everything was better back then.

80s Life You actually weren’t mistaken. The band was actually performing. When the lights on stage are flashing to the beat of the music and/or the animatronics mouths are moving as well as certain movements (e.g. Munch’s and Pasqually’s arms moving up and down to the beat then they are performing. If the lights on the stage are not flashing to the beat and the animatronics are just doing random movements (without their mouths moving and little or no arm movements) then it is during an intermission. Usually intermissions have music videos from Kidz Bop and other artists as well as other content on the screens.

Good for CEC Northridge in deciding to keep the animatronic band! I wanted to cry when they were performing "Lend a Hand," thinking they were going to junk them soon. Shame they don't do spontaneous performances anymore, but they're still there, having survived the re-fit. That's what counts!
I’m sick and tired of companies using screen entertainment. We take our children out to places like Chuck E to get away from all that crap. To have fun and go on magical adventures. We take them to spend time with them and make memories.
I’m sorry to say, but Chuck E Cheeses is no longer the arcade pizzeria I remember. It breaks my heart that children are forced to watched TV screens and play touch screen games, rather than enjoy the fun challenging games of old. Not only were those games fun to play, but the challenge aspect of said games helped with a child’s development and coordination skills. The animatronics were fun too cuz they would sing and dance along to the music as you ate pizza and played games.
I was never afraid of Chuck E growing up. In fact, in the town I grew up we had a Pizza Time Theater. It was located in Simi Valley Tiera Rejada RD and Sycamore AV. I had such fun times there I never wanted to leave, and I was devastated when it became the first of a line of old classic Chuck E Cheese to close down due to corporate A holes at the top making stupid business decisions to save money, and at the cost of the joy of countless families with children.
These days Chuck E Cheese just doesn’t have the same feel anymore. When you go inside, it doesn’t feel like a family friendly place. It’s just another TV screen/Apple product placement. I will never set foot in any Chuck E Cheese ever again, until they change leadership and ratify every stupid business decision made since 2010. Stop shutting down Chuck E Cheeses, stop refurbishing them into modern garbage, stop removing the aspects of what makes them a fun place for kids and grown ups alike! Until the current leadership is ousted, I refuse to give my money to this corporate joke of a company.

I heard they were going to change this location into a 'retro' style location and bring back vintage signs, vintage memorabilia and really make it a location for fans across the country to visit and relieve the awesome past of CEC... sadly it seems like that's not the case...at least not so far... literally everything in this location from the video looks updated except for the animatronics still there. The photos on the wall are all new. They took down the fake magazine ads from the wall near the entrance. If they want to make this a nostalgic retro location they're missing the mark so far.
That game where you squirt the ducks is a classic.
Chuck E. Cheese has grown up. He now answers to Charles Edward Cheese, he's a stock broker and certified CPA. He lives in Encino.

They actually was performing to songs but they run on a system called "navori" it's a system where they stream the show to the store's rather than dvds, floppys, ext. So they don't only perform for birthdays but songs too, if the lights are flashing/on then their performing. Just some info on that.

Thanks for the video, I can understand the decline now. They left my area a long time ago. I was a kid in the 80's glad I got to enjoy them back then, I would not travel far for them now. I did enjoy the pizza and beer the few times I took my kids back in the early 2000's, looked like they still had the taps on the wall

Remember going to CEC as a kid. The location was somewhere in LA. I don’t know where exactly but it was a big deal then.
I went to a few birthday parties at this location in the 80s. The interior used to be a lot darker back then.
the Chuck that you spotted on that game, reffered to by fans as "Avenger Chuck" was used between the late 90s to 2012 when he was replaced by that CGI abomination.

So if your wondering why 90s ( avenger ) Chuck stayed on some items is because during chucks redesign they kept a lot of the older stuff which I can only assume is because of their outfit similarities

Also, all that cool, nostalgic signage, probably ended up in the trash. Aside from the owner maybe keeping a few pieces. I would have enquired about buying a few of the smaller ones last time you were there. If I was you. Even if they had to modify them a bit, like drilling a tiny hole in them or changing a corner a bit, to make sure that you couldn't use them in your own business. Like used casino dice and cards get modified basically. Would have been great to just have a piece or two.

Maybe, just mayyyybe someone in market saw the success of the Five Nights at Freddy's movie and, after failing to see the success of the video games over the last decade, decided that the anamatronics are definitely still a draw. They dropped the ball big time, I think, on not noticing the success of FNAF previously. Not saying that every store needs anamatronics, but some flagship spots throughout the nation should definitely still have them.
It's weird I have so much nostalgia for the animatronics. When I was a kid I didn't care about the animatronics or the pizza. Never played any of the skill games to try and win tickets and prizes. All I cared about was the video games.
They left these animatronics in because they're the only ones which haven't attacked anyone yet. The others walked off the stage and grabbed people. Bewareeeeeee

You don't have to film the party, just the animatronics. That isn't the band that i grew up watching. My band is The Rocka-fire Explosion. Those types of Chuck E Cheese places are not what i grew up with. Mine is what used to be in West Mifflin, PA before it was demolished.

I don’t know what Chuck E. Cheese looked like that during the 80s. During the 80s Chuck E. Cheese was a very dimly lit video arcade with an even more dimly lit eating area when the animatronics show was playing. That place is lame af. Whoever initially decided to do this remodel was an idiot. I can picture them in a back room right now, “fvkc them kids“ 😂. I remember going to a kids birthday party there years ago thinking what the hell did they do to this place it’s not even fun.

While it’s awesome that they decided to keep the animatronics (smart choice), wouldn’t it have made more sense to have it at the main giant 3 story one in San Jose since they remodeled the place?
They’re idiots for remodeling cause it seriously defeats the purpose of people traveling to go see it for nostalgia. Especially if it’s not even how it looked before and the animatronics don’t even perform unless it’s a party.
Back then it was the Chuck E. Cheese now it’s 5 nights at Freddy’s. I wonder if anyone has built a 5 nights at Freddy’s restaurant yet or if that’s in the works….You know the creator of 5 nights at Freddy’s went to Chuck E. Cheese as a kid.
