have tried linux a few times over the years, tho never went too far with it; just too quirky, would not talk to my printer or scanner kind of thing; last attempt in '16 (?)
problems with windows 10 made me try again and wow: i think linux developers finally got it over the hump in terms of smoothness of function, online compatibility with sites like my bank, amazon, youtube, etc. communication with peripherals... -at least with mint
kind of funny: because now it indeed does work that well, i'm having to actually LEARN how it's set up, how it works, basically play for keeps. am even having to figure out how to use skrooge!
my thanks to you for these vids. microsoft fell backwards with the more recent versions of windows ten. hopefully you get some viewers/subscriptions out of it. you sure got mine; thanks again!

FREE Your Mind :TLDR thoughts and recommendations on duel os on both duel drives? Perhaps make a video on the former. Are expensive drive upgrades required or recommended? Thoughts and opinions on Microsoft office alternatives? Thoughts on mint gaming? Thoughts on unbuntu gaming? Thoughts and recommendations on preparing partitions?
perhaps a video on having two operating systems on a computer with two hard drives. However split both hard drives, and having both operating systems partitioned independently on both hard drives.
1 One desktop with 1 ssd "boot" drive (c)'. And 1 large hd "data" drive (d).
2 I would like to have two operating systems on the same computer.
3 What I would like to do is split both drives.
4 Have the faster ssd partitioned as a "boot" drive for both windows and Linux.
5 And have the larger hd partitioned as a "data" drive for both windows and Linux.
Assuming that's possible, I would like to make the Windows partition as small as possible because I will be using Linux most of the time.
I understand that this is one hell of a video request but hopefully at the very least I have gotten your creative juices flowing for ideas on future uploads.
      ----end of video request----
--- beginning of requesting your opinion ---
(Please answer here in the comments if possible)
If the above is not possible what are your thoughts and suggesting on perhaps replacing the current ssd Windows boot drive with a slightly larger ssd and dedicating it to Windows for everything. Boot, data etc.
And replacing the current hd data drive with a much larger ssd and dedicating it to Linux. Boot, data etc.
I hesitate to purchase new drives for economic reasons, and I'm not 100% confident in my ability, or if the drives will play well together regardless of personal skill.
What are your thoughts on installing unbuntu-game-pack on a gaming desktop?
In the future I'm considering making a Linux gaming PC. However I think it may be best to avoid changing distros, and operating systems every time something else seems shiny and exciting. Could I reasonably as a new user install and optimize mint (or a light weight Linux distro) for gaming' on a gaming desktop?
Thank you for your help and knowledge.
(Note my immediate project is installing mint and portioning most of my space to mint on a laptop. However I'm keeping Windows as a back up operating system for now. I'm not trying to run a ultra marathon on my first day but in time anything is possible)

To answer your storage drive question: dual-boot on the same hard drive if you have no other option, is my opinion. Have one OS per hard drive, putting a version of Linux on your primary drive so you can boot between the two, three, four, etc. If you can afford SSD, ABSOLUTELY go for it. None of my PC's are running non-SSD. Watch a video on how to install them in your desktop and you'll be good to go. 😊

    • @fymlinux
      @fymlinux  4 года назад

For your particular set-up, though I would recommend three drives, two SSD's, one for Linux and one for Windows, and one non-SSD for storage. Make sure the storage drive is an NTFS filesystem so you can access/mount it from both OS's.

Offline install is still an issue. So, if you don't trust your provider, "someone" will take your root, and make a fake one! At the end, it is all Debian with different colors. Linux Mint is fool's gold. Download Iso file, than in that is file I found "Sudo Dbus...". Imagine that?

So I have 2 folders. 1 is in my computer, the other is a backup storage plugged into a USB. Obviously my current hard drive on my computer is going to have different files. However I have no idea what specific files are, and are not on the backup storage compared to my computer drive.
I tried copying the folders from my PC over to the backup storage. It comes up with a window saying 'How do you wish to proceed?'. I want to outright skip any files I am copying over that wants to know what to do in the situation of a duplicate, and just paste any new files that are not in said folder. However, when I press the checkbox 'Apply this action to all files', and then click 'Skip'. None of the new files on my PC get transferred over to the backup storage device.
Is this a bug, or a feature, or am I doing something wrong?
