Cuphead Mouse Boss Battle
They say Jerry's been havin' a real tough time coping with the loss of Tom. They also say that right before he became too paranoid to even dare leave his house he even went as far as building a "replacement Tom".
also those PTSDs from WW1
makes you rethink that entire show, maybe Tom was just created by Jerry to give him some challenge in his life, after the original died of old age or something
guys, why do you have to do this to me
Huh, I just thought that Werner was one of Jerry's cousins who after fighting in the War still wanted another battle, was jealous of Jerry's antics with Tom, and made a deal with the Devil in order to help him build a cat that he can fight all by himself.
New headcanon acquired
I love how his tank even lights his own cigar in the opening scene
It´s my favorite boss.
I don´t know if i like more that fact (the tank) the Tom & Jerry references or the soundtrack!
I get it his weners helmet refers to the ww1 geramn helmet due to his german accents and when the cat frees the souls what are they wearing a black and white uniform just like the concentration camp uniforms i see Edit: the death scene is reffered to toxoplasma a disease that infects rats That mind control them to be eaten by cats then the Toxoplasma can now control the Cats brain-TheMarcoNox
yeah me too
so true
totally
I think this was one of my favorite fights, animation wise. The bottle cap buzzsaws, basically all of Werman's actions, the cat's mouth when he releases the rat ghosts, just everything
Yeah, I like the bounciness of his tin vehicle in the first phase.
I found this to be a very fun bossfight
And the music is real funny I love it
but late but this is probably my favourite boss
Yeah its awesome. One of the best fights in the game.
Wait a minute... If the cat was being controlled by Werman himself, but ghosts of mice emerged from the cat's mouth, wouldn't that mean he used the cat to kill other mice?!
Melon: IAmNotAFruit they were holograms
Melon: IAmNotAFruit Ja I did
Probably represented as POWs as treatment was kinda harsh at the time
It wouldn’t make sense it they were holograms they’re ghost so yeah werner killed those mice who were probably enemy mice
they are probably dead cousins of werner who died in a war
Did not see that the cat was a robot coming at all
Netsaver I was gonna say I thought it wasn't a robot.
Neither did I, I actually thought the rat was dead.

Cuphead is the best looking game I've ever seen.
It's incredible
That's because everything is hand-drawn.

It's mind blowing and fun fact all of the animation in this is hand drawn
This fight has a tom and Jerry feel
Frank Flint except this mouse controlled everything.

Yep I can hear the tom scream.
Frank Flint when I first saw this I was thinking this was some demented Tom and Jerry shit lol
If Jerry was a brilliant engineer that builds machinery from garbage
The cat was actually a robot.
*INTENSE PLOT TWIST*
BlazedCat1 So how was it able to eat Werner without being controlled?
Unnamed creature from pamtri's videos I mean not everything has to make sense considering this is a game based of of 1930's animation where barely anything is realistic in the slightest so yeah
Shane Angus I guss that makes sense.
Unnamed creature from pamtri's videos I mean, let's be honest, beppi the clown turned into a merry go round, how would anything be logical
That's a twist.
*That's really twisty.*

How has no one noticed that the screams sound SO IDENTICAL to the iconic screams Tom would make in Tom and Jerry
Because we are intrested in the music and everything not the screams :( wish we could
I noticed too
By far my favorite boss in the game. His boss isn't too challenging but still is hard keeping his title as a boss, his design, the level design, even the cat's design i like

TheJorgeFilms I believe you mean the Union Flag, the flag of the United Kingdom. The English flag is St. George’s Cross, which is white with a red cross. Speaking of the UK, there’s also a doll of a Grenadier Guardsman in the bottom-right of the screen, too.

My brother and I were playing this boss just yesterday when I came up with an interesting theory about the boss. Each boss owes their soul to the devil but the game never touches on the backstory of any of them. My theory about this boss was that Werner Werman was a tanker who sold their soul to the devil in return for the guarantee that they'd never be defeated in battle. It would explain all the awards and medals in the background and why he refers to his tin can as the ultimate machine.
Jejune Jimbo If he could never be defeated in battle, then how did cuphead defeat him?
ExplosivesMaster Well... Cuphead defeated the devil himself so maybe he's that strong
Werner Werman guten tag....imposter
That’s a interesting and good theory! Nice job 👍👌

Why is the cat's arm animation so fucking satisfying?
LordLukste Probably because cats can’t normally do that.

It looks like Tom from Tom and Jerry Just Do a Comparison Between Tom and The robot Cat
What, No lore?
“The War between Rodents and Felines was nothing if not steadfast, but at no point had it reached such an incredibly violent high than the day Werner Werman lost his entire Faction to but one, ONE of his ferocious feline foes. He, a humble general at the time, had assumed the Murine Corps HQ was safe for his soldiers to abide inside, a mistake that proved to be fatal to his poor, poor fellow mice in arms. The cat, Whiskers, struck without warning, and in one ominous and deadly *gulp* Werner was all that remained. Cowering behind a wall in fear, he wished for something, *anything* to help him trounce this Tabby and make it out alive. And who else to show up in his miserable desperation than the Devil himself? In an instant, a deal was made, granting Werner enough time, tools, and intelligence to construct a weapon with the strength to flatten a thousand Cats! His new weapon, the aptly named ‘Can o’ War’, lived up to its name, and after an epic battle, Whiskers was no more. But Werner, with his heightened intelligence, knew it would be foolish to hold up his end of the bargain, and rebuilt his now defeated foe as a massive, hulking android to ward off the Devil, as well as anyone who would dare to enter his domain.”
Ah thanks, I was looking for this 😊
Thx I was looking for a comment like this
I just realized something...
This rat is (probably) based on Jerry
"Jerries" is slang for "German soldiers" in WW1
Clever...
also, his name is Werner Werman, if you read in the german pronunciation, Werman will sound like "Vermin", and the name of this stage, "Murine corps" is a play on "Murinae", the scientific name of the family of rats and mice.
Not only in WW1 in ww2 too and Brits are called Tommys... Maybe they named it Tom and jerry because the Tommys and the Jerrys? But the mice wins all the time ?!? But Internet says its just coincidence and has nothing to do with it.... Mhhhh
actualy the original inspiration for Tom and Jerry was an existing show called Tom and Jerry that was about two guys who lived through comedic antics.
Clever indeed...by chance did you notice the British flag the top left corner, perhaps another WW1 reference
he wears a pickelhaube looking helmet as well
I love how every boss has his or her own tune. All played by a band. Love it.
My thoughts exactly. There's always a certain theme that matches the boss battles so well.
Werner's battle has to be one of my favorites, it's fun, it's not frustrating (specially since i took on him after certain robot), the noises, the music, werner himself (his design, the intro and how he faked being eaten)
Why is it that players have to beat three of your subjects before they can battle you?

I find it funny how Werner Werman _somehow_ has enough room in that little soup can to fit all of those contraptions. A cannon that shoots cherry bombs, a catapult that shoots a bunch of little crumbs and trash, some springs, a firework, two flamethrowers, and a hand to light his cigar can all fit in there, apparently.
Perhaps his tank is similar to Iron man armour, in the sense of be a very advanced gear that can carry a notable arsenal, with little space.
Jerry hasn’t been the same since he lost Tom in Vietnam
I love this fight. I feel like its always overlooked but its one of the best designed imo
Ik and I love the symbolism of Tom and Jerry. Cuz Jerry was a nickname given to the Germans by the British.

Why does he have a British flag in his den?
Alejandro Garcia it's WWI themed. He's German. Has medals on the wall, he's wearing a German WWI helmet, and he has a tank, as well as having an enemy flag.

one of the best boss themes, which is odd cause I personally found this boss really easy, guess it gave me Tom and Jerry nostalgia, also the cat also belonging to Werman was an M Night mindfuck plot twist that came out of nowhere
Werner Werman was shaken with visions of the war. He had served in World War 2, against the German forces, and was badly wounded. His only friend was a stray cat, and the cat soon passed away. Werner had been teased and taunted for having to use a wheelchair to get around, so he finally decided to bargain with the Devil to help. The Devil gave him a robotic version of the cat, and a soup-can tank. He crushed all who opposed him, until the soul was to be collected. He then realized that he couldn't give his soul when he had lost his crushing all of his taunters.

Another alternative since I cannot find SonicDestroyer12's story for Werner
Werner Werman grew up as a poor German rat and joined the military when he was older. Many of his family and friends joined the Army. Werner was triumphant in many battles afterwards and was sent to a Special division. During the war, Werner was a hero and won lots of awards. He was sent to a special mission that scarred his life. He was supposed to protect another division which included his brother. He was triumphant but jealous comrads left him to die and they cutoff his radio. He was alone and by himself and in a fit of rage he shot without aiming into an empty field. But his brother was killed from the shot. When Werner went to see his shot land, he........ didn't like the results. He was angry at himself for being too good at his job. He went crazy and asked for his life to be different and the devil heard his cries and offered to forgot this memory in exchange for his soul. Werner accepted and quickly ran to escape his end of the bargain.

Werner was sitting in his room, smoking a cigar, staring at house map with his head in his hands. He had been sitting like this for entire night, thinking of a way out of the mess he and his platoon got stuck in. The sewer rats were slowly making their way towards their base. Many of Werner's soldiers died, the rest was heavily wounded. He was the last one capable to fight. And just to make the situation worse, they were running out of ammo and food supplies. Werner dropped his head on a table and sighed. There is no way out. Only a miracle could save them.
But a miracle came in a face of a Devil himself. Devil promised to give Werner a one weapon of his choice. A machine gun,a tank,a nuke-anything the mouse general desired. After spending some time thinking,Werner made a decision. He asked devil for a cat mech with installed auto pilot for a brain and a prison for a stomach. Devil, smiling from ear to ear, granted his wish. But if somehow Werner gets defeated with weapon like this,he will have to repay with his soul. But Werner just shrugged it off. After all,he is an experienced soldier,a genius and now has a weapon strong enough to slay thousands. There is no way anyone could defeat him.
Welp I tried. Sorry for typos.

Well, SonicDestroyer isn't here, and a bunch of people have tried to fill the void, so let me give it a shot.
Werner Werman was a long-standing member of the tiny, but mighty Murine Corps, where he was renowned for his genius, quite literally building the standard issue tank out of a tin can and a robotic cat that was practically indistinguishable from the real thing. However, in spite of his intelligence, Werman lacked any concept of strategy, which kept him grounded at Private First Class. Unable to serve his homeland at such a low rank, Werner begged someone, anyone, to teach him the ways of strategy, and that someone had to be The Devil. Offering the miniscule price of his soul, The Demon could give Werner the ability to raise failing battle plans from the ashes, to which the rodent quickly accepted. It didn't take long for The-Soon-To-Be-General Werner Werman to rise through the ranks, earning himself several medals along the way, (Which, unfortunately, were too big to fit on his person) After rising to a cushy position, Werner began to grow arrogant, believing he could use his newfound tactical wit to cheat The Devil, Werner Werman packed his war memorabilia, fled to Inkwell Isle, and set his cannons to fire at whoever walked through the front door.

SonicDestroyer didn't make a lore, so I will.
Werner was a small rat with big dreams. He was picked on for being small, and he wanted to prove his bullies wrong. He thought if he could build something great, that would benefit the rat society, his name would be in history. Werner envied the humans and their extraordinary creations. He wanted to make contraptions of his own, to be able to shine as a hero in all the rat's eyes. The only problem was that he couldn't figure out how to build even a simple catapult. He prayed to the heavens for the knowledge, but someone down below heard him instead. The devil offered him the intelligence to build machinery beyond his wildest dreams, with the cost of his soul, no doubt. Werner wasn't sure, but he accepted the deal anyways. Suddenly, he was filled with knowledge and energy burst through him. He ran back to his workshop, trying to decide what to do first. Then, he had a glorious idea. What if he could build a machine that tricked his fellow rats, that fooled the eyes of everyone? He would be able to disguise himself, to make everyone bow down to him, even though he was just a simple rat. He started to work, to build his brand new contraption. One thing was for sure: he would never be small again.

Werner Werman was a normal rat who lived in a hole in a busted down house. There was this cat that always tried to eat it at every opportunity. He couldn't handle it anymore, so he asked the one person he knew who could help him, The Devil himself. When Werner Werman told the devil about the cat, the devil said he would give him his own personal vehicle for a price, a very low price of his soul. While the devil was leaving, the cat tried to eat him, so he accidently shot it with the contract of a fellow robot, and turned the cat into a robot. Werner Werman knew what to do, so he maxed out his machine's defense, and started to operate the cat when he was in peril by making a scared sound. He found some bottle caps in his little hole, and he decided to make some saws to hurt those who tried to take him out. However, as a rat, he had his ways. He lied, and kept his soul contract to himself, inside the giant robot cat. The devil was surprised, and when he heard about some cups going around town, he knew they could stop Werner Werman from keeping the contract.
Yeah, it sucks, but I tried.

This fight has an interesting visual error, which is likely a bug:
In the Catbot phase, when the cat attacks you from either side of the screen, its arm reaches around the wall to swat you with its claws. However, its arm _never actually goes behind the background_ - you can see its arm cut off at a certain point in the attack animation, and his paw will inexplicably show up, detached from the rest of him.
That's intentional on the develepors part I believe.

@@thelittlemanfromthedraftbo6805 ikr, lol. The visual error even got fixed on later updates.
Dr Strange cat
“Things were hard for Jerry after World War 2 when he lost His Best Frenemy Tom, so he became a disgruntled war veteran who takes everything as a challenge, he even built a robotic cat ti help cope with the lost of his best friend”
I wonder if Werner it was DR Khal`s lab mouse and learn how to make robots and tanks
Javier Robles you vill never find out!
Werner Werman what is your relationship with the doctor?
Snuggle Hyena ask the fanbase.
Stahp with the fandom theories pls
I love that scream he does when he's about to be eaten that's got tom and jerry all over it
I drew a picture of Werner at school and people said it looked like evil Mortimer Mouse.
This is my favorite boss out of the whole game! The characters and theme have been inspired by Tom & Jerry. In my opinion, when the cat opens his mouth to reveal rat ghosts, it is very possible that they were illusions via a projector considering the fact that the cat was a robot the whole time. The cat also has a name; Katzenwagen (Weird name for a cat if you ask me.)
Why? "Cat-Car"
Werner Werman's Cat is a Robot inside machine 1:47
when pronounced in german, his name is vermin
I still wish orange could’ve faced Werner when he played Cuphead
I love the name. Not only is Werner pretty close to Warner, like Warner Bros, but since the German accent tends to replace Ws with Vs, Werman turns into Verman, which sounds kinda like Vermin.
Obviously a stretch, but that’s how my mind sees it
When saying werman in a german accent it does turn into vermin, which is exactly what werner werman is (a rodant)
I have to admit I’m having real truuble with this one. Phase two seems very random at times and locks you out of any possible escape. I’ve actually had two bottle caps on one level and the flamethrower on another. No way you can dodge that. Fun boss though.
The concept of a rat using household items as his weapons feels like an inspiration to a Tom and Jerry episode: "The Yankee Doodle Mouse" where Jerry sets up a War Zone against Tom using household items
SonicDestroyer 12 isn't here so...
Werner Werman was a strange rat. He wanted to be a mechanist and go to the school of his dreams. He didn't get accepted in, because the school needed cats and dogs, rats were trash to them. The Devil, watching this from his casino, saw Werner Werman and told him that for Werner's soul, he would be the greatest rat mechanic. Werner accepted and got many medals for his creations. After a while, Werner began to realize the devil would start coming after him so he took into hiding. He created a giant cat robot as a disguise. The Devil never found him. But, eventually all deals have to be paid up to...
why the boss looking like Pinstripe from Crash Bandicoot?
Because you play Crash Bandicoot
the thing is that the boss it´s a perfect reference to tom and jerry, you see pintstripe because they are rodents
yay i thought that to
He looks like Mortimer mouse with a German accent and a pickelhaube
"This match will get red hot"
*Tank lights match for cigar*
What wonderful timing
The announcer says"This match will get red hot!" while Werner lights his Cigar with a match.
Yes people, this boss battle was modeled after Tom And Jerry.
I knew it Lol
YAAAAAHHH!! **Goes back into tank saluting**
does this work?
“NNN CHAAAAARRRRGE!!!!!”
does this work? “GRRRR CHAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGEEEE” **sinks into tank saluting**
Elder Kettle: No Varmint eats my Surprise Cake!
That Tom scream at 1:08
no parries?
TRIGGERED!
Guten Tag.
Most creative boss bar none, super fun too, a German rat in a soup can lol.
Also the fact that he built Katzenwagon (or......whatever the hell its called) is insane.
