  • Jeff gives a quick break down of the three most common trusses used for building a Post Frame building. These trusses are commonly used to span from outside wall to outside wall with no support walls underneath.

Looking into the future, I thought it may be good to build a roof Solar ready. That would be a south roof thats at a 41° angle for Ohio and Indiana. Unfortunately there are code restrictions on height.

Hhmmm... 41 degree is fairly steep. Maybe just shorten the wall height?

hi am planning on budling my own garage. 28x32x12. so if my wall are 12 ft tall and i want to add 2 more feet im thinking i can get scissors trusses. the over all pitch i want 5/12 so it matches my house you think scissors trusses can offer a 2 ft more I don't want to get ripped off by someone telling me its not possible unless i pay more. thank you. fyi i just learn today watching your video on how to calculate the pitch of roof. just not sure how to on scissors trusses.

Ask for the truss schematic and you can find the pitch on the bottom cord. At 14 ft from wall to center I think you can get 2 feet easy of extra height

We’re building a pole barn in June. What would you recommend for wall height on a 30X40, and we’re thinking of 10’ roll up doors. Would a 10’ wall height work? Thnx

if it's a true "roll up" door you can keep about the barn about 10 feet. It's cheaper to build up than out, so go 12' tall if you need. Overhead doors need 2' of clearance. So, 10' tall overhead doors need a 12' tall building.
