    Alternative opinion:
    Get a concealable soft armor vest,
    and a chest rig.
    That way you have the option of armor separate from your mags and more over gear.
    Wanna conceal carry armor during HPAC? You can.
    Wanna gear up for WROL? Put on a chest rig over your armor, and yes you can.

    • @febreze9283
      @febreze9283 13 дней назад

      While I agree that a slick plate carrier with a split rig over top is actually a decent setup, and have seen it used to great effect, I definitely disagree with soft armor only. (If that is what your comment is implying) Coming from someone who’s been in a near peer conflict theater, the setup your describing is genuinely good for a recce where you know you primarily face IDF/FPV threat, moving fast/light is priority, and you know you’ll only be in a hot environment for a week or less, however when planning for any type of small arms contact, always go for the hard plates. Even using the same overall setup, definitely don’t skip out on having hard plates as an option. I like where your head is at though. If you buy a simple slick carrier, you can use it to conceal armor as well. Good options for this would be Spiritus’ LV119 (I currently run this, and have abused it to all hell), or the Ferro Concept’s Slickster.

    Have to absolutely disagree on this one. I'm just one data point admittedly. I have a 5.11 plate carrier that catastrophically ripped at the 15:39 front left collar attach point rendering it unwearable. Not from damage or abuse just inadequate stitching. This was a few years ago admittedly but just be sure you inspect it and return it within the return period if you see any stitching defects. That said, my Condor plate carrier is a trooper. Yes, also recommended by Nutn. 😁👏🏻

    I make no false claims, I'd absolutely 100% fail a no-notice gear check for what I've got at home, in terms of plates, carriers, etc. Honestly, it hasn't been my highest priority. It's up there, and my plan is to start working on that soon, but I've got basically nothing. However....

My own kit is mostly ready but mostly doesn't count. I need to get my mags filled and primary rifle zeroed to the 77gr I'm switching to. I'm just such a geardo that I'm constantly altering and playing around with new toys and I've neglected to really settle on a primary GTW setup and not friggin screw with it. They’re hated on mostly by people who have associations with their competitors-let’s be real. I say that as someone with mostly Cyre gear and clothing (also have an abundance of HSP, BFG, SOE, etc.). Like others have said, even Condor stuff was heavily used in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some held up, some didn’t. It just depends on what you’re doing. Most people watching this aren’t gearing up for the most extreme circumstances, like career combat. Most are just looking for something that will help them train and be better prepared for unlikely scenarios. Something like this would do just fine for the majority of those scenarios. Anything more extreme and the people capable of surviving such an ordeal already know what they want and need.
      One thing is guaranteed, it doesn’t matter how good your gear is, if you don’t actually use it and know how to work with it.

    • @p51mustang24

      Just buy the PC that carries the weight you need. The Trex arms is meant to run really light. The JPC or MEPC can run light, but can also carry a bit of a load. The MEPC in particular is pretty flexible between light and medium weight. If you need to carry a genuinely heavy load look at a SPC or Shaw, etc.
      This one seems to slot into the medium weight capacity range.

    Scary stuff.

    Nutn, any good plate carrier recommendations for petite women? Can’t find something for my 110lbs wife to save our life. Currently running an ace link quadralease that is way too big and chafes her shoulders and chest when moving around in it for any length of time… also gets caught on stuff because it’s so loose. I’d be anxious to see what you have for your wife and get her comments

      Size small Defense mechanisms MEPC with a size small plate. I think a small plate is 8x10 iirc. Only downside is the long lead time for DM products.

      probably should be looking for a "slick plate carrier". Trex arms ac1 would be a good option to try out. Just remember to size plates to her body first, then buy the plate carrier. Most slick plate carriers are size specific, unlike this 511 one where it can use multiple different sized plates.

    So size and weight are no konger a nutnfanxy talking point?
    Yup armor is good if you opponent is a good enough to hit it.
    Talking to guy who have been there and done the work even with plates getting shot is like getting hit full force with a sledgehammer
    Hopefully you dont get hit under, over or around the armor...

    • @jackjohnson291
      @jackjohnson291 19 дней назад

      Are you saying you* got shot? I must ask-by what exactly and what kind of armor? Also, was there considerable backface deformation, and was your carrier loose or tight?
      If mil, I’ve heard stories about the older plates leaving pretty nasty marks, but physics suggests that if it felt that way on the receiving end, it also felt that way in the shoulder of the one who fired it (assuming a shoulder fired weapon). I have some older rifles chambered in some pretty manly calibers that have zero padding on the stocks and even some with metal plates. While a long day on the range can definitely cause bruising, it’s never felt like getting hit in the shoulder by a sledgehammer (and the force is much more concentrated over a smaller area).
      I’m not doubting your claims, it’s just confusing to me. I’d like to understand the mechanics behind it. If it was soft armor, then that’d definitely make more sense.

    • @cccc7666
      @cccc7666 18 дней назад

      @@jackjohnson291 I never have been shot but guys I served with have.
      Plus you are counting on your attacker actually hitting you in center mass and not hit the 6 to 8 inches to the side of your plate not to mention above and below it.
      Does armor have a place yes but it does not replace the most important thing. Avoiding a fight if possible

    I hate to disagree but 5.11 absolutely sucks when it comes to making plate carriers and there’s literally a so many small companies you should support other than the hacks at 5.11. Acetac/headsontactical/unobtainium gear/defense mechanisms and a long list of others.

    5.11 makes their gear for police. Police that have massive clothing and gear budgets they must burn every year to keep the budget flowing. So you get $80+ dollar pants that wear out inside of a few months from being worn in an office setting. Their plate carriers carry over their philosophy of break early to sustain annual fleecing of taxpayers.
    5.11 is solidly the "prosumer" market. If you are just "playing around" well, have fun.
    If you are betting your life on it, get real tools.
    But let me ask you.. Who will draw more fire in a bad situation? Mr. Battle Rattle or mister "I got it, but I'm not showing you any of my cards"..
    Bullet protection is nice.
    Not getting targeted in the first place is a much better day.
    But what do I know, I just raise sheep on my little Texas ranch.

      I’m not a cop, and I have great distain for government waste.
      That out of the way-I own probably a couple dozen pairs of 5.11 Stryke pants. I also live and work on a small farm, and I’ve yet to tear a pair up. I still have the first pair I ever bought, some 11-12 years ago, and they’re hardly any worse for wear (color is faded, a few small holes from barb wire and what not, but that’s it).
      I haven’t had the need to buy a new pair in a long while, so I hope they haven’t cheaped out on quality like most companies have these days… sure would be a shame.

    • @centex7409
      @centex7409 18 дней назад

      @@jackjohnson291 That's the issue, the recent quality has disgustingly dropped. I as well have the Stryke in a few pairs. But due to a cancer fight, I had to buy some smaller ones in 2022. They didn't even last a full year under much lighter duty. They literally wore out in the crotch area from just walking. The material thin polyester. Purchased at the 5.11 store in Harker Heights Texas. So I went to a new feed and supply store called Murdoch's that opened recently in Killeen. Instead of $80 5.11's, I picked up some $40 MUCH heavier "firehose" material pants that are WAAAY better than anything's 5.11 carries.
      My youngest nephew is on Houston's SWAT, his wife a Harris County Detective. They gave me the inside scoop of the 5.11 reality.

I sold it and got a Ferro Concepts FCPC V5 and haven't looked back. The FCPC is way better fitting and is sized to your plates, so no extra material to tuck and fold.
