Cats 0 from 4 GF appearances despite having a great team, and in some years dominating the H&A season. Many of those Cats players (Couch, G Hocking, Stoneham, Ablett Snr etc) sadly retired as underachievers. I feel many current Swans players will fade away the same way.

You can see it in John Longmire's eyes, he didn't want to be there doing that presser, after losing yet another Grand Final. The Swans were minor premiers, they had all the advantages all the best possible cards in their hand and still end up losing the Grand Final. They won the Qualifying Final, had the week off, won the Preliminary Final, both those game played on their home deck at the SCG, and while Brisbane were travelling back and forwards and played every single game in the final series and high deficits in their last two games one a 44 point deficit against GWS and a 25 point deficit against Geelong last week , you would have thought Brisbane had nothing left in the tank. And much as the Sydney Swans were the winners of the regular season, they were the biggest disappointment overall in the finals series, wasting all those advantages.
Chris Fagan even thought that the conditioning his Lions got from playing each week rather than the week off after the first week of finals (if they'd finished in the top 4) likely prepared them better and that the only thing that might have held them back in the GF was the constant travelling back and forth after winning the Elimination Final. Sometimes it doesn't pay off to finish in the top 4.

@Esveleria Well Brisbane won it this year. Where was Collingwood? Not even in the 8 huh. Proves last year was a fluke. Collingwood in the doldrums for the next 5 years.

Old South supporter. When Parker didn’t start in the middle at the start of the third quarter, I knew it was over. Just poor coaching, when the side needed some brute force in the middle. The Bloods just aren’t hard or tough enough, especially at the coal face. Too many flashy, outside players. Adam’s should have played instead of McDonald. Sydney just have dud tall forwards. Desperately need a hard inside mid who can win the ball in the middle, and a half forward who actually leads his opponent to the ball. Horse needs to step back now as Footy Director, and let Cox and McVeigh take over the head coaching. And recruit some harder, tougher players. And NO man buns … 😵
4 losing grand finals in a row and 5 of their last 6. The jokes about Collingwood are long over now. They win premierships at least, one just last year and in 2010
The buck stops with you John, 4 GF losses in a row since 2012. Three of them with heavy defeats. It has to start with the Couching staff. As a Swans supporter I have had enough.
You have to turn up at a Grand final doesn’t matter if your minor premiers doesn’t matter if you win by 50 points at a Semi Final you have to bring it to the Game that matters the most. You play your whole season to put in a terrible performance, can’t blame it all on injuries.
This was a very poorly run interview. Why can’t the AFL get microphones for the questions ?? It is incredibly unprofessional of the AFL not to get this sorted…it happens every week !
Now that's rubbing salt into the wounds. Swans have never been the same in grand finals since Hawthorn bashed em in 14. Have lost by a total of 226 points in last 4 grand finals.
Four GFs losses in '14,'16, '22 & '24, in my option, John should step aside and give somebody else a go. In comparison, Malcolm Blight, as a senior coach at Geelong, lost three GFs ('89, '92 & '94) and resigned. If John stays on, it will be selfish and for the money.
Longmire is so boring to listen to.. wheres the fire, the anger, the disappointment, the dissatisfaction in what they produced. Maybe behind closed doors it comes through, but it certainly aint coming through here.
It's called class. If he was up there fuming and aggressively blaming his players for playing poorly. How well would that sit with both the media and his players?
Not saying he shouldn’t face the music, serious questions need to be asked as to why you’ve been thrashed but I just think this is a bit much to do it straight away they’re already devo, so why do a presser do it another time they’ve already been out on ground watching the other team get medals and deserved adulation no need to do this to him at this time that’s all I’m saying
I can't understand why our players didn't play tight. The Lion's players were always yards away and marked the footy. They were also able to break our tackles easily. Our guys also kept slipping and falling down
hmm I'm not sure about him stepping down because it's rare for a coach to achieve what Longmire has done to a team. Swans have had 5 grand final appearances under him but have only won 1 premiership, so I'm not sure I think he'll get there one day hopefully
@@richardbehan8118 I'm the last person to be sacking coaches, but the question needs to be asked. 4 successive grand final loses, and the average margin of those losses is around 60 points. After 2022, today should not have happened. Something's not right.
They shouldn’t have a week off before the finals. It removes the advantage the top 2 have with another week off. Becomes a negative when you have 2 weeks off in a month.
The swans never turned up yet again it appears they haven't learnt anything from 2022 grand final what a embarrassment in grand final history the ultimate chokers the limp swans the pretenders their legacy is sealed choke choke 😮
Absolutely agreed, I'm sick of some of the swans players talking themselves up all season and making false promises. I don't think the desire to win is in them unlike the 05 team with Brett kirk etc

Absolutely appalling making JL do an interview with the Lions celebrating in ear shot. The AFL lowered its colours there. No other sporting code in the world would conduct an interview for an opponents coach to hear that. I've had a few friends call me from different parts of the world. Saying how disrespectful that was. My suggestion is that the AFL should close the door. So you don't look second rate...
Second rate soft cxck performance by pretenders. Glamour, glitz and glare that's what matters up there. Surf and ride at Buller Pass , But , at the G , we take it up the arze
Full respect to John Longmire for getting through this interview under pretty tough conditions. He handled it well. Bad luck to him and his side today.
They need to sack their club psych. Something wrong with where their heads were at, clearly. Twice in 3 years they've been embarrassed in a GF. Gotta feel bad for the fans.
I feel bad for Longmire, been such a good coach for such a long time, if all grand final result went his way he would be one of the greatest coaches of all time. And the character he shows with his congratulations to the lions and Chris Fagen, you can tell it was sincere. Top bloke
Sydney will continue to get to many Grand Finals because they have an unfair advantage playing on a soccer size ground but will get exposed when they have to play on a proper ALF size ground like the MCG on GF day.
Great to hear the celebrations, if that aint a wake up call to get a bit fn fire on days like this, then who knows what will. Stop being so fn polite....
It’s good for Horse to go through that. He’s built a team of arrogant, privileged show ponies who don’t have what it takes. They’ll all be back on their socials in days, selfies from their tanning salon, talking about how they cried together and have had deep and meaningfuls with each other. Well done Horse. Proud of them. They’re not Bloods and never will be.
They have been the best team all year and stayed top of the ladder., Brisbane were very impressive today, best 4 quarter team performance Ive seen from lions. They controlled the game and the tempo, they had 100 marks by 3 quarter time. Lions passed the ball from the backs to the forwards without any swans touching the ball. and rarely gave up a turnover. Swannies looked shell shocked and mentally broken by half time. Whenever Swans got the ball, they panicked and fumbled, and lions got it back and kept possession. Lions really surprised me today. Swans should be disappointed about giving up at half time, but Lions were so good they broke the Swannies spirit.
DISRESPECTFUL by the media to clearly leave doors open in both media conferences. Who allowed that??? Coaches couldn’t hear questions let alone concentrate on their answers
Swans were trying. Brisbane just finally got it all together and played like the champion side they’ve threatened to be for years. Every other AFL team would have been belted or at least soundly beaten yesterday.
John Longmire is basically the AFL equivalent to Ricky Stuart. The reason why he coached the Swans to a premiership in 2012 is because he inherited the team from Paul Roos who retired in 2010. Same with Stuart when he coached the Sydney Roosters to an NRL premiership in 2002 since he inherited the team from Graham Murray who left after 2001. Sorry Horse, but you should have been given your marching orders five years ago.
Yep, also in 2012 Hawthorn were very inaccurate and dominated most areas of the game. We got lucky in the end and then two years later they smashed us. Then another two years later the 7th team beats us. And now two more thrashings in three years. It's proof that Longmire can't coach grand finals. Geez, if we didn't get lucky in 2012 it would have been 0-5.
Sydney on the mcg in a grand final, usually a recipe for disaster for us neutrals.. especially with a bloke like papley running around, if he targetted the ball as hard as he targets the verbal stoushes with the opposition, he would boot 10 goals a week.
I really feel for John there! Disgusting that the AFL couldn't get this right. He didn't deserve to listen to the boys celebrating. He showed class to push through and answer the questions.
Does Sydneys inability to play quality footy on Grand Final day have anything to do with the SCG being shorter than the MCG?Have they created a small ground game plan, which is successful at home and against lesser teams but is uncompetitive when playing better sides on the bigger G?
That’s 2 really poor performances from Heeney in GFs? Stage fright? Struggled under the expectation? Downhill skier? Leaders like him needed to stand up!!

@@Hunty49 Hawthorn were one of the most vocal supporter base to boo Adam Goodes - understanding the importance of Aboriginal blokes exceeding on the football field takes fine levels of social maturity and it can be lacking big time in the dog eat dog world of footy. @Esveleria I was talking about last year as well. Don't congratulate me, Brisbane's not my team.
We need a microphone passed around by the journos!! Hard when you hear answers but can’t hear the questions. Kudos to Longmire for handling this the way he did.
When 22 sydney players turn up to the MCG on the grand final day as swans, 22 swans turn to chickens once that balls bounced.
I dunno. A chicken has the guts to cross the road.
@@AlbieAughtie they crossed boarders, come across lions and returned chickens

To Nick Blakey. Your old man played for the Lions and he won premierships with the Kangaroos and you chose Sydney. Suffer in ya loose jocks.
Pathetic, another year with no intensity or pressure, everything else means nothing. Just pathetic

They win premierships at least, one just last year and in 2010
That was Geelong in 89,92,94,95 still didn't stop people from saying i love watching Collingwood choke they lost more grand final than any other team😂

The buck stops with you John, 4 GF losses in a row since 2012. Three of them with heavy defeats. It has to start with the Couching staff. As a Swans supporter I have had enough.
Even if you have the press conference rooms close to the club rooms, how are they not fucking soundproofed?
Don't worry horse. thanks to youtube you can go and watch a replay of the 99 grand final, relive those glory days.
Yep, our record is absolutely dismal. Lost to the 7th placed side in between that too, and if we didn't get lucky in 2012 it would have been 0-5.
Let’s hear him crap on about the “vic bias” now
Longmire is so boring to listen to.. wheres the fire, the anger, the disappointment, the dissatisfaction in what they produced. Maybe behind closed doors it comes through, but it certainly aint coming through here.
Fire?? Have you seen him yell at his phone in the coaches box?
@@eduardocarroccio6162yep in the 2012 granny and result the silverware.

This is ridiculous why do this to a losing coach why not wait till next day this is just stupid IMO
Cause this is sports mate!! You face the music whether you win or lose!!! Simple! No excuses on the biggest stage
Gotta pay the price for choking
Not saying he shouldn’t face the music, serious questions need to be asked as to why you’ve been thrashed but I just think this is a bit much to do it straight away they’re already devo, so why do a presser do it another time they’ve already been out on ground watching the other team get medals and deserved adulation no need to do this to him at this time that’s all I’m saying
It's in their contract
I can't understand why our players didn't play tight. The Lion's players were always yards away and marked the footy. They were also able to break our tackles easily. Our guys also kept slipping and falling down
Respect for John to handle this like he did, absolutely pathetic again from the afl, can’t hear the question’s but yeah Katy Perry was awesome!

As harsh as this sounds, the question needs to be asked whether Longmire should step down as coach
hmm I'm not sure about him stepping down because it's rare for a coach to achieve what Longmire has done to a team. Swans have had 5 grand final appearances under him but have only won 1 premiership, so I'm not sure I think he'll get there one day hopefully

This is what happens in life when you don't deal with previous trauma. In this case previous grand final trauma. Must move forward.
They shouldn’t have a week off before the finals. It removes the advantage the top 2 have with another week off. Becomes a negative when you have 2 weeks off in a month.
22 swans MIA
Alarm bells rang when Longmire said PF post-game: "This is why we play the game." Actually, you play the game to win Grand Finals - not to make them.
This video will definitely be shown at training camp and pre season next year. They’ll use this as motivation 😂😂😂
Longmire said they had learnt from 2022 but actually they haven't changed anything. Today they showed no hunger to win unlike the lions who threw themselves at every contest. Sydney will continue to get to many Grand Finals because they have an unfair advantage playing on a soccer size ground but will get exposed when they have to play on a proper ALF size ground like the MCG on GF day.
how much bigger do you think the MCG is …?

It’s good for Horse to go through that. He’s built a team of arrogant, privileged show ponies who don’t have what it takes. They’ll all be back on their socials in days, selfies from their tanning salon, talking about how they cried together and have had deep and meaningfuls with each other. Well done Horse. Proud of them. They’re not Bloods and never will be.
Having a cry on the socials about players having a cry on the socials. You’re lack of self awareness is amusing
What was the last question? Couldn't hear it 😅
DISRESPECTFUL by the media to clearly leave doors open in both media conferences. Who allowed that??? Coaches couldn’t hear questions let alone concentrate on their answers

If he thinks he can win a GF without winning first use of the footy - he can listen once again to club that thinks better of that idea celebrating.
Brisbane wanted it more and that's how it goes
I'd Be Pissed Too Having To Hear That After Losing. But! I'm Not Longmire Today So? 🎉
The AFL "MUST" fix the microphone issue for journalists! Its simply unprofessional. The rule should be, NO MICROPHONE, NO QUESTION!
Sydney on the mcg in a grand final, usually a recipe for disaster for us neutrals.. especially with a bloke like papley running around, if he targetted the ball as hard as he targets the verbal stoushes with the opposition, he would boot 10 goals a week.
Papley is a little dog with a lot of bark, but not alot of bite.
Yep definitely a dog
He’s got small man syndrome 😂
I really feel for John there! Disgusting that the AFL couldn't get this right. He didn't deserve to listen to the boys celebrating. He showed class to push through and answer the questions.
Does Sydneys inability to play quality footy on Grand Final day have anything to do with the SCG being shorter than the MCG?Have they created a small ground game plan, which is successful at home and against lesser teams but is uncompetitive when playing better sides on the bigger G?
Even the press conference was embarrassing!
