SSTV reception from the ISS is one of the funnest things you can do with VHF IMO. Another way to do this, is you can record the SSTV straight from the FT-3DR and save it to the SD card. Then take the file onto a Windows PC and decode in with MMSSTV by playing it from Audacity using VB audio cable. I've done the exact thing you showed in the video using my tablet and an HT with a magmount on a baking sheet. I got 3 almost perfect images with this method! 73 de W8IJC!
Note that ISS changed downlink frequency to 437.800 MHz. The problem is that uplink is 145.990 and many people ruining SSTV pictures by pressing TX while SSTV signal is still active.
@@ModernHam I am really curious how you found out about this. ARRL website has nothing recent about ISS or SSTV since 2016. I would think that would be the first place to look for it. Is there somewhere specific where I can watch for more events like this?
@@Robert08010 Honestly I monitor a lot of social media regarding ham stuff so I see a lot there. This blog keeps a good updated event list as well. ariss-sstv.blogspot.com/
Got part of one for the first time 😁😁 from ZS6GTW. Received with the baofeng uv5r, also decided on my phone. Messed up though so could only get the last 1/4 or so haha
It's so fun watching your videos, as I spent so much time there when in college. Where you were today was where I worked a lot during my dairy days... Still would like to hook up sometime when I'm down there. What repeater do you normally monitor? 73, KE4NVR.
Yeah this was my first time at this location. Nice and quiet. Honestly I don't monitor the local repeaters too much, but there is only one thats really active. I believe its the one on top of the keen building at eku.
For those looking to see the image, here it is:

Exactly what I was looking for lol! Good pass

I've got it recorded on the ft3d too. But forgot I had a repeater on the other reciever and it was active.
@@ModernHam yeah, that was a major issue for me as well. I turned the vfo to single, and that alleviated my issue.
😮yikes!@@ModernHam

Thanks Again For Streaming Your Life And Ham Radio Here On RUclips.
Glad you enjoy it!
How come every astronaut looks like they are from the 1970s?
Thanks for the video! I tried this today for the first time and it was fun receiving a signal from space!
Glad you had fun. Its a cool experience!
That was awesome! I just downloaded a ISS tracker! Just subscribed as well!
Thanks for that PSA about "Trust The Government". I do, but its nice to see I'm not the only one.
I was hoping someone would notice Lol
I got 5 images Monday with my Arrow II and a baofeng! Good stuff!
Nice! I may try to get another before its over.
Very cool! I didn't know the ISS was broadcasting SSTV. I will see if I can capture the image this week. Thanks!
Good luck! Its a nice open window.
I will be listening for it this week…… thanks KY4K!
Good luck! Hope ya get a good pass.
Ha, I remember being on the other side of this near Kingston, KY and getting rained on. Probably still have the audio from it too.
Great video! Thanks. I thought you needed a directional antenna to pick this stuff up. I will definitely try with my SDR.
Best of luck to ya. an ADR should work fine!

@ModernHam where'd you get your hat? I really like it a lot.
should have put the image in this video. would have been cool to see.
Yeah sorry I didn't think of it. I'll add it to the description when I get home. www.spaceflightsoftware.com/ARISS_SSTV/uploads/122579.jpg

May I know what is the Baofeng's model name? Also, please make more of these!
Are you going to be making videos for field day?
Yet to be determined.
