    I may have giggled at the title a bit when I first saw it 😂 I start (community) college next Tuesday and it's a bit odd of an idea in my head still. Honestly, I originally didn't apply to any colleges because in my head I convinced myself that college was for people who had already decided their majors. I kinda felt looked down upon in junior/senior year because answering the question of what I wanted to major in and where I wanted to go usually turned up blank. I pushed myself to apply for a community college late senior year. Eventually, I found something I wanted to pursue, but it was such an obscure thing I didn't even realize it was a major up until just about last month. Here I am now, about to go into community college, saving myself tons of money and pursuing my major with an idea of a university to transfer to in my mind. I think junior and senior year of high school stressed me out with all of the college talk and trying to figure out how things were gonna work out, which almost made me avoid college altogether. I wish this video would have come a year sooner, but I really do appreciate little reminders such as remembering to breathe and that the world isn't gonna end because things didn't go according to plan 😂 This video was very realistic and it's a bit refreshing to hear all of this stuff, so thank you (:

      awww sami! thank you so much for watching and for sharing your story. i am so happy that you found something you like and a major to go along with it. it is such a relief when something finally clicks and i know that you will succeed with whatever you choose to do. and yes, it saves so much money!! i filmed a video today about the pros and cons of a CC and the money aspect is so huge.

    Dude I agree it is okay to get rejected from college. I have a 4.3 GPA and a 1440 SAT, 30 ACT and I have been rejected officially by four and am expecting two more in a couple days. It’s better to celebrate the victories dude.

      Update I have been accepted to UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz, waitlisted at Emory, Washington and Lee, Hamilton, Colorado College, Colby College, and rejected by Macalister College, Grinnell College, Cal Poly SLO, and UCLA (waitlisted but I rejected their offer).

    You are such a precious person, I really do love your videos. Bit of shame that I did not know about your channel while recovering, because you give here some very wise advice. Anyway this university thing is so stressful - I'm just before applying and already dying;) Wish you all the best!

    Some colleges are better than others. Perhaps they may not be significantly different in the actual quality of education, but in terms of public and employer perception it plays a major role. Names do matter, and employers know top schools from mediocre ones. It is especially important if you want to go into certain professions like finance and consulting. With that said, don't go to a prestigious and expensive school if your "passion" doesn't coincide with a well-paying job after graduation. Loans are only worth it when your chosen profession has reasonably good prospects of making you good money later on in life. It's an investment in your future, but you have to make sure you're making the right investment. Good luck guys!

    I went through a similar college disillusionment process, unfortunately a little too late for me to undo the stress I'd put myself through in high school. Thanks for this video - it's a relief to hear someone talk about college from a practical perspective.

    Why did you even apply to the far distance schools when you knew you wouldn't go there because of the distance?

  • @loktungwoo3466
    @loktungwoo3466 6 лет назад +1

    i clicked on this video bc the tittle is so funny lol. its so weird (not in a bad way) to see that you did not go into any schools that accepted you because it was too far away, even though it is still in the same country. i will be attending college this year and i am from hong kong, but i applied to ucas aka schools in the uk. somehow it never occurred to me that it will be too far away from home and the only problem i am worrying about is the money part hahaa. i am not judging you in any way and i am glad that everything worked out for you, i just guess it's a culture thing because attending schools outside of hong kong is very common here and many students study abroad. anyways thanks for showing me that even though life don't always go according to plans, it will still work itself out in the end. i am still unsure about which college i'll be attending and till then i just need to convince myself to not be stressed about it.

    I live near Villanova. My biggest mistake was listening to everyone else but myself when I was applying for schools. I’m now stuck at a school I hate and I regret it so much. I wish I could go back and apply to my dream schools

    Ooooooh the ACT...when I went to college (07-11), Kentucky (where I am) was of the few states who required an ACT score for in-state college admission. If you were from another state and wanted to come to Kentucky, they could take your comparable SAT score, but at the time I was in high school, here in Kentucky, we had to take the ACT no matter what, if we wanted to apply. Thankfully I enjoyed the ACT and I ended up wanting to go in state, so I took it 4 times over the course of 2 years, #nerd. But anyway, that was a major aside. Thanks for this video, I'm sure you're helping many realize the rejection letters are in fact a reality, but that doesn't mean it's the end of the world, because eventually, even if you have to transfer at any point, you will end up at the right school/place at the time you're supposed to be there. Good luck to everyone starting the school year!

    • @ChrisHenrie
      @ChrisHenrie  7 лет назад

      yes, you are so right! thank you so much for watching & sharing your experience! i only took the ACT once, i couldn't stand the thought of taking it again hahah! i love hearing about other peoples' college stories and it is so interesting to hear where people end up. so nice to hear from you!

      Chris Henrie definitely not trying to be harsh but I got a 27 and a lot of my guidance counselors told me it wasn’t the best it could have been, and the national average is a 21. On a positive note; I am very happy that you are doing what you want to do! As a person who also struggles with anxiety and comes from a low income family, you can make it work! As long as you’re comfortable and happy with your choices, that’s all that matters. Plus, a college education is incredibly valuable.

      My husband is a graduate from a top twenty school and works alongside UC and CSU graduates. Starting at a CC is a great way to start out as it's cheap and you get your diploma from wherever you graduate from. Additionally, CA CC students get priority when transferring and automatic admission to seven UC campuses (TAG program).
