I think in addition to npc. The game must have more technical opportunities. Like for example creating your own block or npc (without replacing another one) for example a Dry bones that jumps like a paratroopa. And in the case of blocks, a block that is destructible but that when you get on top you will slip like you are stepping on a block of ice. I think that would give many new possibilities for COMBINING blocks and npc This game looks like it will be a lot of fun just for the trailer :)

In my personal opionion Super Mario Bros X. 1.4.3. is better then the 2.0 Version. If they implement all things from this version (1.4.3.) to the next Version i will download this again. I just want to say this because i am a big fan of this game from the beginnin and i am a little bit disappointed with this version.
The aim is to implement most if not all of the features that 1.4 adds, eventually, as well as a lot more. I'd also suggest trying it out before claiming to be disappointed - there's a lot that wasn't shown in this video.

And it's more than a script pack, 2.0 is effectively the new version of SMBX with Lua, including its own builds of PGE and LunaLua. Plus, LunaLua is an extremely powerful scripting interface, that offers a lot more than any other version of the game.
Shadowblitz16 Not true at all. The editor is perfectly functioning, and unlike in beta 2, if you hit F5, you can test levels directly with it. It's only PGE's ENGINE that is in alpha, not the editor.
Not at all! If you pause the game on the overworld map, the left and right keys will change your character! You can also use cheats to change characters at any time, though.

Still, I'm happy SMBX is a thing in the present, I would love to consistently play it again one day and be amazed at what people creates. 👍🏻
What about Waddle Dee or Bandana Dee? Power-ups could be different handheld items and it'd still work as a reference to the series without making it too easy. Or Kirby could be implemented as an entire change of style, similar to Link in SMBX.
richie figueroa There's a block called the Costume Switch Block. This lets you change costumes. You can also do it from LunaLua scripts. We're working on better ways to set it up in the future.

PieBathBob Absolutely! One of the key aims of SMBX 2.0 is to retain as much backwards compatibility as possible. Most if not all 1.3 levels will work with 2.0.
How do I get rid of the hitching in the scrolling? If you don't believe me that there is hitching, put this video playback on .25x speed and watch closely at the start of the video and you will see when it scrolls left or right after every several frames it skips or hitches in the scrolling.
Unfortunately this is because the original developer of the game, Redigit, set the frame rate at 64.1025641026 frames per second. Since most monitors refresh in multiples of 60 times per second (and NO monitor refreshes in a multiple of 64.1025641026 times per second), this means that a frame effectively needs to be skipped every so often in order to keep the frame rate consistent. We have considered ways to potentially adopt a more standard 60 frames per second, but there is literally no way to do this without breaking older levels. The only way to do it consistently would be to slow the game down by 6.4%, which breaks a lot of timing-related challenges, and makes the game feel worse. The other option would be to modify speed values in the engine to keep the speed the same, but change the frame rate. Unfortunately, too many things such as level-specific layer movement rely on the existing frame rate, so those would all break, too. The only option that MIGHT be viable is to have it as a setting that can be toggled by an episode creator, but it's a huge amount of work to make that, and far from the top priority at the moment.

Except with SMBX2 you can use LunaLua scripts, which is a way better language based on Lua (a scripting language that's used in more than just SMBX)

You need to extract it using 7Zip first. Once you have done that, you should have a folder, which has a few subfolders and a file called SMBX2.exe.
