I lived on 35th just up from MacArthur for many years. I was def. a fish out of water, but soon loved the area (and Dimond) and the people. I’ve been gone for a long time, and nearly cried when I saw the places you showed. Never see that part of Oakland on youtube! Great stuff!
Phnom Penh’s eggplant pork and shrimp dish is my fave ever too! I too would have it everyday if I could. I first started going to their downtown Oakland location in 2002 - and I hope they stay strong.
It's been 12 years since I lived in the Bay Area. I used to work at a nonprofit out of the highschool off MacArthur in East Oakland. The lack of access to resources between East and West is visible. But I made great connections when I was there. Even it's either more gentrified or impacted by violence, depending on where you are, Oakland has a way of staying with you. It certainly did with me. Thank you for this video. It takes me back!
i miss oakland so much. it really used to be such a great place to live but im not sure if i can say the same about it now. one thing for sure.. the food still hits the soul.
Thanks for showing Oakland. I moved here before the pandemic, haven’t had the chance to explore Oakland much, will def. Hit those spots in your video. Keep up the good work bro!😊
Keep up the great work brother! These videos are close to home! Foods looks great and good! Letting all family & Friends know about these local spots in the bay! ✊👌✅
Glad I found your channel. Moved to the East Bay a few years ago from the South. Never thought to checkout Oakland Chinatown. Definitely hitting these spots up. Thanks man and keep it going. You got something special going.
Phnom Penh House and Vientan restaurant also my favorite. Now I have to go try Lucky Three Seven. Have you been to Cambodan Street Food on Foothill Blvd? They have great food too. The ribs and salaw machu kreung are delicious!
Dude... i'm hella glad i found your channel... Been on the east coast for a little over a year now and constantly find myself missing Oakland. Last place i was at before i left was actually right off MacArthur and Lincoln. Great to see my old neighborhood again and yea dude... Lucky Three Seven!!! I used to hit that spot up like twice a week! HAHAHAHA
I was wondering if that picture of you and the other kids in front of the blue house where you used to live? I live in that house today(: and can't notice the difference of it from now!
i can’t believe this video made it to you lol what are the chances. would love to connect. we have so many memories in that house and it’s a super special place for me and my cousins
I was born in Oakland, 3572 Gray Street, off 35th Avenue. I am old enough to be your Grandma. I never knew, but what do people call the neighborhood of 35th & Gray Street? Is it Fruitvale? Or what?
I'd refer to that whole area as Fruitvale til it reaches 580 and it hits Dimond, but i don't know the exact specifics if people that live in that area call it something else
Our go to is bhan Mæ vane in alameda for Laotian dishes. Their Thai dishes I find too sweet but their Lao sausage, nam kao, fried clear rice rolls and spring rolls are our go to orders. Not a fan of Vientian Cafe.
Thank you for showing the positive side of the Bay area ❤

I grew up in the Laurel District too and we moved out when I was around 9 as well. I used hit up that church's fried chicken once a week.

All are good. I just can't bring myself to go to Cambodian street food too often. It just makes me miss Howard, and his steak and rice

this guy stinks
All the cambodian dishes he ordered are nto authentic dishes. These are created for the western diner
The sausage looks dry & over cooked.
The good stuff suppose to be soft, juicy & glossy.
