I got this event on the 24th, like many others, but I thought the extent of the event was a piece of flesh/brain matter falling out with the siren before I even saw the sun. Before I saw the sun, I thought it was a lore implication, reliving a traumatic injury, or something similar. I soon stepped out and saw the sun, and ended up diving down Into the cellar/basement, after a few minutes I started taking damage for what appeared to be no reason, the game crashed after I died, not getting to see the end screen/credits.
>SUPER THREAT Also can you hide in the basement? If you react quickly enough you can get supplies and wait it out down there, especially if you have a sleeping bag.
cant sleep during an event and at one point the sun starts cheating and hits you through the walls in the basement so you can survive most of this event in there but then you are forced to go up again
You could still safely move around on the ground level, as long as you time your position in the base relative to the sun's position. In the morning you want to avoid the corridor and sleeping quarter (since the sun is blasting its rays through the back windows) until noon, when you have the most freedom of movement around the base's interior during the event as the roof totally shields you from the sun. The console room is relatively safe until around the 2-3 pm mark when the sun starts to be visible from the console room's window, so you want to retreat to the back by then and wait it out until sunset. During my first encounter with this event, I basically spent the first half of the day collecting signal data before relaxing at the back until the sun is gone. Other than that your only major concern is sleepiness during the event.
It doesn't really matter. If you die to it once, you become invincible to the sun. I got caught out while I was lost in the woods and there wasn't much I could do, and after that when I respawned I just booked it home. Realized the sun couldn't damage me anymore when I got in the side of the building a few seconds too late.
I primarily know Voices of The Void for being the funny alien game that Vinesauce Joel plays, but man it's crazy how it's geniunely getting quite good at these off-kilter horror concepts. Once they're done with it I think VoV's geniunely gonna be a pretty fucking spooky game.
No qualms against trying new things. Always good to experiment. If you don't mind viewer feedback, I will say that the on-screen text without dialogue does lend a certain atmosphere to the footage that creates a more immersive experience. When it's just the game sounds and text, it (1) forces the viewer to pay closer attention to the video (to read subtitles instead of merely listen to you speak) and (2) provides _only_ the atmosphere of the game, giving it a raw, "real" kind of feeling. It leaves the viewer with nothing but the video, its sounds and the distant association of a kind of catalogued human experience we only get to see second-hand, which I think is fitting for a creepy game like VotV. Kinda found-footage-flavoured, if you know what I mean. Just my 2¢.
Couldn't agree more, would really love if Soft Gremlin kept up with this atmosphere, I found it special also Tho, would be lovely to watch some voiced videos too, I am sure they are also gonna be really neat :3
Had this event happen to me the day I was exploring the 3:33 am basement. When the siren went off it scared me good, and I saw the censored sun through the walls and my vision was forced to look at it as well. When I finished exploring the basement I just reload the save and when the sirens started again, THAT scared me even worse, because I thought it was a thing happening in the basement. Well... I was never afraid of the sun like this before.
Honestly i do prefer the text at the bottom of the screen. since it makes what happens in the videos much scarier or unnerving because it seems like your not with anyone. If you talk it might lessen this feeling, as you'll feel like your watching it with a friend. A scary movie is usually more scary by yourself than with others.
It makes it feel like you are watching the outcome of a lost VHS tape or something, that someone (Maybe the VHS protagonist) has edited over to give their thoughts on the situation. Instead of hearing the text being read aloud or hearing the person's live thoughts.
Since there’s one sun event where it hurts you, i want one based on *The Sun Vanished* where the sun just vanishes for one day, and as soon as the sun rises the next day, it’s back, and in the immense darkness, there’s noises, and some flashing light entities that can kill you if they get into the base, and a power outage could happen once in a while.
I'd like an event opposite of this where (because it was in Signal Simulator) it's now winter. This event would have you stay inside like this but, the Only difference would be, stepping outside results in a game over because you'll die by instantly freezing to death. I don't know what to call the event but It would be an Absolute Zero event.
Facts: 1. In newer versions, the flesh is a consumable, regening lost health and giving some stamina with food. 2. The brightness is slightly tweaked, so its abit darker 3. All greenery goes orange after the event. 4. The achievement is no longer given 5. Instead, you unlock a new gamemode "Solar" where its constant bad sun and wisps spawn at night.
I can say one thing. It's a cool idea, honestly, very interesting, and honestly kinda fascinating.. But my problem with it is due to how the sleep schedule can get, I had no sleep and died several times during this, because during an event, you cannot save OR sleep. Safe to say I stayed inside, and made very good friends with Eyes. Not to mention when I was outside, quad-less, running home as fast as I could because the sun was a black square, and I was being literally melted, it was terrifying.
I know this is probably not the case, but i wonder if this is to mess with Joel's fixation on daylight being safe. That's pretty cool. It's something I could definitely picture as one of those EAS videos. It's great how the game can be simultaneously goofy with stuff like Maxwell and Argemwell or the console commands and horrifying with events like these.
That flesh falling I imagine is when Dr. Kel felt his ear fall off just from looking at the sunrise, even if it was obscured, that's how terrifyingly deadly this event gets
Loved the voiced portion! You should add narration to your videos as well as the text cuz I love the way you edit the text! Lovely video as always! Looking forward to more!
nice video, and to kinda inform you about scp 001 based on your description: there are multiple 001 entries, as the moderators of the site wanted to make 001 special. so, there are the proposals, some are like this (when day breaks) others are simple monsters, others are thoughts and ideas, and its up to the reader to accept which ones are true and false. (personally i believe none of them are the true 001)
Got jumpscared by the sirens and confused after it. Looked outside and saw everything turning bright and orange, and saw the censored sun. Was my first time and waited for like 45 mins it to go away. Also a fun fact/tip: you can look at the sun if you look at it through the camera, it doesn't hurt you in game but else it does. Also the in game day was 24 too which was kinda funny timing.
I was JUST watching joel play this last night and he ended up getting the BLACK SUN (plus that Rottoid robot on 3 legs thingy the same night). Man this event is rather unsettling but it could be worse considering its inspired by the SCP-001 "When Day Breaks" scp thingy. ALSO Joel did end up microwaving a chunk of flesh (but I dont remember him eating it). TBH really paying attention this stream and also seeing this plus the event right after at night with the 3 legged war of the worlds robot thingy is kinda getting me interested in this (though since i'm broke I might have to get it by other means and pay when I can like I do with most of my steam games) PS: Doesnt seem to be a "glitch" even when indoors, seems like staring at the sun too long even through a window will cause damage.
I had this event when I just started the game. I honestly found it really cool, because it seals thw fact that it is a psychological/cosmic horror game
I was unlucky enough to somehow get this on the second day of the game whilst out at one of the outer satellites. To say I was confused and terrified would be an understatement. Had to ride my ATV all the way back whilst hiding in the shade of trees and other satellites trying not to die. Suffice it to say, this game is pretty great.
The most scp shit so far, like the foundation blocking people from viewing whats actually happening with the sun though a cognito agent in the alarm or something
I love how terrifying this event is, and one of my friends somehow made it more terrifying by asking me "What if the sun in this event... Isn't the sun anymore?" It always sends chills up my spine, and I managed to spook another friend of mine with this event. (They unfortunately also got very unlucky and got the Black Fog event pretty early in the game.)
on day 1 I get this event followed by 25 days of nothing else happening except throwing annoying mannequins into the river. says a lot about the potential of the game that I still enjoyed it!
the sun is in fact, a deadly laser. But it also lets you harvest delicious caffeinated meat chunks from yourself if you moderate your sun based self filleting
I'm scared to play the recent version of this game because of this event- I already know my dumbass is gonna be bumbling around outside with the trashcans when it happens.
This event just happened to me today despite playing this since near release, I've had a lot of wacky encounters including the red skull bad ending, but this.. was genuinely the most frightening event in a video game for me. I was just chit chatting with my dad before he went to bed and this event happened started as I was the only person awake in the morning, died the first time and had to use my wits to survive in the basement with my tv, finally earning the bad sun chivo.
I think I speak for all of us when I say that this event is in desperate need of a rework. Design-wise, it doesn't do a good job of being a "scary" event, just an annoying one. Allow me a moment to go over the reasons why: 1. Disabling the player's ability to pause the game for as long as this event lasts is a *big* no-no. Not letting players save is one thing, but making it so that they cannot actually quit the game is an entirely other major problem. Players can't adjust their settings, they can't save, they can't quit without alt-tabbing and forcing the game closed via Task Manager, it's ridiculous. Actually when I encountered this event, I fell into the bunker and ran out of food *and* sleep. I had to just keep doing nightmares every 5 minutes when the sleep deprivation demon would go hostile until I got the hallway one or drowning city one so that I could complete it and max out my sleep and food. I am told that I was not the only one who had this problem. 2. The flesh falling off is a great way to functionally permanently fill your base with crap. For a game that is already pretty hefty on the performance side, the last thing on players' minds is being obliged to manually clean out their bases that are now filled with chunks of their own flesh. Furthermore, the base comes stocked with a medkit as-is, so if a player takes a lot of damage, then heals it, then takes a lot more damage, you're gonna wind up with what's probably gonna be double the amount, considering that no one plays with player damage on by default. 3. It's just too long and disruptive. Remember when I mentioned not being able to pause? Well, that means you can't change the difficulty. If you're playing on easy mode for the longer days, that means you need to sit around twiddling your thumbs for even longer, and since this is a forced event, if you have to wind up going at any point, you're gonna end up needing to do the whole thing again. How I think this even should have been handled: 1. unless you can *eat* the flesh to regain some health, make it fade on its own. Why would we need all these chunks of our own meat if we can't do anything with em? 2. Force the day into being significantly shorter than normal days. I'm talking shorter than a hard++ day. Maybe balance this out by making the daily optional. 3. Make this event pause-able. Again, with how long it is, it's absurd that you can't pause it at all. What do you all think?
"hello, day machine?"
"day machine broke."
"understandable, it is beautiful, come outside, it's a nice day."
It’s so beautiful outside.

4-2 /////// GREED
GOD DAMN THE SUN
When I first got this event I thought the god himself wanted to express his hate towards me for making multiple war crimes to these wooden dummies that kept entering my base.💀
It's just a hole in the ozone layer. It's probably fine
7/24/23
You either witnessed Bad Sun
or you weren't able to play the game at all
edit: additionally, I do believe this event occurs on the 24th of EVERY month (and can be triggered by changing the date of your computer's clock)
Yep, I checked it, you can trigger it with changing the date on your PC to 24th.
I wonder what the significance of the 24th is.
..."Kel probably has chronic neck pain from this pillow."
*SLAMS PILLOW LIKE A BOULDER INTO THE BED*
Why tf is the pillow sound like a boulder like it's made of rocks?
I'm pretty certain this is a reference to SCP-001 Specifically "When Day Breaks."
The sun is leaking
How it feels when you forget sunscreen at the beach.
During a summer vacation in florida
This one is extra horrifying because it's not localized to just our little forest.
My stupid ass had no idea this sort of event could happen, so imagine my reaction when I am walking all the way to Romeo to get the hash code and suddenly the whole world becomes EXTRA bright and I notice the damn square. Thank God I was close to the transformer building, thing saved my life.
It reminds me of scp-001 (when the day breaks) it makes sunlight (even sunlight reflected from the moon) turn you into fleah monster that can merge basically if this happend humanity is doomed
Your voice is awesome! :]
AAA I appreciate hearing that. I was incredibly self-concious recording that pffhahaha.
They sound just like their name "Soft Gremlin" dkkdksndkd it's a very nice and fitting voice!
Just downloaded this game and still learning how to do basic stuff like signal's and etc, but damh i can tell i will shit bricks.
I haven't found anything on this yet, but my first big event was where there were giant cog wheels in the sky making loud turning sounds. It was horrifying.
When Day Breaks is honestly the best of the "modern" SCP stories, especially compared to the other contenders for SCP-001 like the fucking Archangel which is some SMT shit instead of SCP haha.
The Sun Singes the Fool!
It would be a great SCP001, Except it can't be 001, Since it wasn't the first discovered
The angel makes more sense as 001 as it explains more of the origin of the foundation
@@jesusramirezromo2037 You clearly have not read SCP-2000 then.
They all happened first bro.
@@jesusramirezromo2037one of the more popular canons is that 173 was the first captured and discovered anomaly, and they dont number them by what order they were found
damn adult swim wasn't lying, the dawn really do be my enemy
From what i know, this event can only occur on the 24th of any month IRL, had it happen yesterday morning to me as soon as it hit the 24th, unfortunately this means your game is now set in fall for the rest of your save.
That's pretty cool. It's something I could definitely picture as one of those EAS videos.
It's great how the game can be simultaneously goofy with stuff like Maxwell and Argemwell or the console commands and horrifying with events like these.
This is secretly the best event in the game because you can eat your yummy flesh tumours for hunger and stamina
What the heck are you talking about "Bad Sun"? It's beautiful outside today!
*Step outside. Step into the sunlight.*
The siren fucking explodes at 3:12
Yo, your voice sounds nice. Also, you have more guts than I going outside during that lmao
When day breaks its really fascinating, too bad the official document has so little to go with.
BAD SUN
BAD SUN OVER PARADISE
THERE ARE THINGS IN THIS WORLD
THAT YOU'RE NOT MEANT TO SEE
NOW THE VOICE OF THE DEITY PERMEATES
Red sun over paradise !
nice video, and to kinda inform you about scp 001 based on your description: there are multiple 001 entries, as the moderators of the site wanted to make 001 special. so, there are the proposals, some are like this (when day breaks) others are simple monsters, others are thoughts and ideas, and its up to the reader to accept which ones are true and false. (personally i believe none of them are the true 001)
see, THIS is what happens when you don't use sunscreen kids.
Don't you know?
The sun is a deadly laser
I was JUST watching joel play this last night and he ended up getting the BLACK SUN (plus that Rottoid robot on 3 legs thingy the same night).
Man this event is rather unsettling but it could be worse considering its inspired by the SCP-001 "When Day Breaks" scp thingy.
ALSO Joel did end up microwaving a chunk of flesh (but I dont remember him eating it).
TBH really paying attention this stream and also seeing this plus the event right after at night with the 3 legged war of the worlds robot thingy is kinda getting me interested in this (though since i'm broke I might have to get it by other means and pay when I can like I do with most of my steam games)
PS: Doesnt seem to be a "glitch" even when indoors, seems like staring at the sun too long even through a window will cause damage.
I don't know of any game that literally melts you in such a manner that you can actually interact with bits of your own flesh... kinda neat.
Ok, this is me when day breaks
So basically, its just an SCP-001 when the day breaks, i love it! my favorite scp!
(They unfortunately also got very unlucky and got the Black Fog event pretty early in the game.)
aw hell nah scp 001 💀 jitty’s gonna converge into a sentient mush 🪦
Oh Boy new vid!
Heard about this event from the subreddit, cool to get footage of it
This is like that one scp I think it was like day breaks or something you’d become a pile of flesh pretty cool
on day 1 I get this event followed by 25 days of nothing else happening except throwing annoying mannequins into the river. says a lot about the potential of the game that I still enjoyed it!
The sun is a deadly laser
the sun is in fact, a deadly laser. But it also lets you harvest delicious caffeinated meat chunks from yourself if you moderate your sun based self filleting
Ah, an event that perfectly replicates what the outside looks like, aside from the censored sun of course.
I'm scared to play the recent version of this game because of this event- I already know my dumbass is gonna be bumbling around outside with the trashcans when it happens.
I wonder how this siren is able to detect a supernatural event in space.
This event just happened to me today despite playing this since near release, I've had a lot of wacky encounters including the red skull bad ending, but this.. was genuinely the most frightening event in a video game for me.
I was just chit chatting with my dad before he went to bed and this event happened started as I was the only person awake in the morning, died the first time and had to use my wits to survive in the basement with my tv, finally earning the bad sun chivo.
dreading the day i get this event
I think the way the sunlight is *flickering* is just deeply unsettling for some reason...
I think I speak for all of us when I say that this event is in desperate need of a rework. Design-wise, it doesn't do a good job of being a "scary" event, just an annoying one. Allow me a moment to go over the reasons why:
How I think this even should have been handled:
1. unless you can *eat* the flesh to regain some health, make it fade on its own.
Pausable yes, welcomed. But disable saves during the event. You don't want to hard-lock yourself.
