did you know that if you spend 12 hours in game without leaving the game a white door will chase you and it will crash your game if it touches anything?
Seeing this made me realize that Joel just got really unlucky with the timing, and got hit twice at the same time with the UFO above the garage and the sleep creature getting him Although i think he would’ve shit himself even more if he saw it chase him and lean through the doorway like that
Oh i fucking HAAATE that lean. It's one thing for it to walk around, but the fact that it moves as if it has weight and is checking to see you're there sells that it's actively preying on you.
Doesn't happen when your stamina hits 0.5, it goes into attack mode after watching you for 5 minutes of real time. I tested this quite a few times and I noticed the stalking phase happen beyond 5 minutes by any particularly long period, though it's possible difficulty and randomness is a factor. Source: I ran the timer myself and tested it multiple times. I really wish that other video you were mentioning wasn't made, the person who did it really did no experimentation to find the exact specification behind it spawning and I too was misled from it. One more important thing that I don't think anyone has documented yet: If it falls into the pool in the corner of the room, it will oftentimes grab you from a long distance. This is probably a safeguard as a result of the navigation messing up.
I'm super glad you commented your own testing. I was a big silly and COMPLETELY forgot to factor out the time I had the game paused when timing between its spawning and actual pursuit. When looking through my videos again, all the times (without my pausing) was 5 minutes on the dot each time. I'll add an addendum to this video and try to correct this when I get a chance. Thank you! Also, the pool fact is super interesting. This makes me wonder if it will try to grab like that if stuck in other places... though, I'm a little nervous about this dang thing at the moment to do more extensive testing.
I think it *will* grab you if it's stuck in other spots. I remember it getting me from a distance at least one other time, but I don't recall exactly what happened then. It was probably either when I was standing up in an impossible to reach location, or it was on the other side of my bed or behind a table or something.
As someone who experiences sleep paralysis often, the sleep demon and the nightmare sequences with the tall shadow people that go along with it are terrifying.
I already knew of this character's existance, but I didn't know for certain that the camera was panning towards him and not a "your gaze is is drifting cause tired" scenario. So I unknowingly "encountered" this thing twice when having trouble balancing all the tasks and my sleep at once. First time was in the base, I realized my camera was panning around a bit so I decided to run to bed for a second since I knew he would've been spawning sometime soon. And the second time was running back home after getting repairs done and hashes collected, my camera was drifting around through the woods so I KNEW I had to go straight to bed ASAP.
Yeah, I remember my initial playthrough and just thinking the camera panning was just the character being tired. Then I was in the ride of my life when I was grabbed and freaked the heck out. That thing still creeps me out from my first encounter, good lord.
I just died to this thing without knowing anything about it. I previously assumed I’d just fall asleep if I hit 0 stamina and that the camera movement was Kel being sleepy but I was sorely mistaken. I was looking for signals when it jumpscared me at like 9ish stamina. My soul left my body. I hate this thing.
Yeah, my first encounter with this thing shook me tf up. I thought the exact thing, I just was looking at the computer screen and got grabbed immediately. I had to take a break for the day hahaha.
If it’s random when it begins chase or soak within those limits. That’s beautiful and a great way to prevent people from getting cocky. And stay scared
That's why my camera was panning! First 2 days in my first save I didn't know the bed existed and collapsed due to sleeplessness without being attacked
It was so funny watching him mocking us with the entity, giving him a water bottle and poking it in his face and showing him eating a burger, it made me smile lol
oh its just sleepy the sleep paralesys demon i pretend his a friend cause it dont like you sleep depriving yourself and just wants you to sleep and take care of yourself if you dont then it would for you
The first time my screen started drifting I thought it was either a bug, or just something that the game does when your sleep gets low (much like constantly falling and seeing burgers when your hunger is low). I had no idea that an entity spawns in, and I’m glad I didn’t stay awake for any longer bc if I found out I would’ve been absolutely terrified
Very early on I always thought this was to be VotV's one "iconic alien design". Like the one final big mystery and lore and all that it would all build up towards. The guys behind any alien activity you were to stumble upon along the way. And that even if they appear during sleep deprivation it's like something they either do to make people question their existence, a safe moment to start their activities, or that by being sleep deprived you are slowly being pulled into a state of some kind were repressed subconscious memories of the times you've already been in contact with them resurface as hallucinations. So it both is and isn't real, or/and really hard to tell which it is *this* time. Their eyes have a really clever design, maybe it wasn't intentional, but they look like the headlights of your own little car. Which brings more ambiguity to whether or not they are hallucinations you create yourself based on things you've seen around you. Perhaps a weird mish-mashed memory and induced paranoia from that one time you were wandering towards your car one late night and had that intrusive thought. In reality, I don't think these guys have any importance any longer. It's just another quirky thing in a sea of miscellaneous scp kindergarteners messing about. VotV has a very strong identity for what it is, it is what got it so popular, and for the most part I can respect any work that clearly has a vision for what it wants to be. But I'd be lying if I didn't admit, I wish it never was such a shitpost, that takes you out of the immersion at every corner, and every non corner, and then some.
I remember once I had an event that was maybe glitched and wouldn't end, no pausing, no sleep, nothing, so I was forced into an endless cycle of being stalked, caught and stalked again

But he must stand up, or time will be missed. It's already 21:00. Belly gurgles - nothing left but MREs, and even starved to 10 and falling from weakness he wont eat them. Falling, he crawls into home and sticks note on preparied box with drives, then sending them out, understanding well that he wont be able to wait for money and order him some real food... He crawls into restroom and stares on vending machine. No money... No money... Drone stil didn't flew his way. Food drops to 0, belly starts to consume himself... Kel must crawl back into garade, there lies his only medkit to not die. Vision fades more, but he do that, closer to death then ever, then manages to take 2 bites of so hated MRE. Drone still flies... Why it is so long? He crawls back to restroom. Please... Dr. Bao, please... He just lays on floor near vending machine. 8... 7... 6 food... Kel greets sleep deprivation demon. "you're late today. I've been falling for hours, but stood up unable to sleep this hungry". He just stares back, slender figure in the corner. 5... 4 food... Finally, money plinked, and Kel grabed whole 3 packets of chips and instantly ate 2 of them, then fell asleep on top of packets. Demon disappeared... Not that time, not that time, Dr. Kel.
