Such a great topic - I loved your point about having to CHOOSE to be a more inclusive leader. Everyone likes to think that it's already 'who they are', but it is truly a constant and conscious choice to be inclusive - at least in order to do it effectively. ✨
One of the most useful tips I got about being sensitive to inclusion was to think of any group I'm in - no matter how large or small, no matter what the makeup of the group - as to who is "in" and who is "out". So it could be the "out" group is a young professional in a group of execs or an LGBTQ person with straight people. SO, basically the opportunity to think about being inclusive is there with any group. This helped me stretch my limited thinking to a broader "how can I help whoever may feel somewhat (or very much) uncomfortable in any group.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it. Yes it's really surprising what you find yourself having done! Big ahas. And then we have to give ourselves grace as its all learning.
GREAT topic! Excellent tips for making the effort for inclusivity. My favorite tip is listening to stories... can't really beat that. Mutual humanness helps us get past the surface level prejudices and stereotypes. I love your story about only interviewing people with pink sheets :) Yes, it sure is humbling when we're faced with what we do vs. what we say we believe in.
It is humbling! But that's the process I guess. Yes I think listening to stories is happening this week for the first time for many- with an open heart- I think that will be the lever that moves us. Hopeful.
Thanks for watching! What are you doing to be more inclusive and make things better just now?

Thanks Toni! Such a great point. I'll remember to think about it - everyone could be feeling "in" or "out" depending on who else is in the group
