These sound very similar to the Zildjian Avedis (pre-serial number, pre-"A-Series" matched set of 14" hi hats that I bought new in 1966. The bottom one weighs less than the top (710/685 grams) and sounds much deeper than the top one. The magic is in the manufacturing. The top cymbal has narrow, shallow lathing with a tall profile bell. The bottom cymbal has deep, wide lathing with a shallower profile bell. When I nest them for packing, the bottom cymbal easily "spoons" inside the top cymbal, but the top cymbal cannot "spoon" inside the bottom cymbal at all. I still use these in small venues because there is so much definition with brushes and wood-tip sticks. This is another great video you've provided. Thanks!
Yes, they do sound amazing at any volume. When I play for dinner dances with soft music, these hi hats accompany the brushes wonderfully. I keep them going during the breaks, just so the dancers don't lose their places....not noticeable, but necessary for a happy audience. They still look like new with a shiny satin patina. I was 16 years old when I bought them and I'm 74 now. They will outlive me and future generations.@@ReverieDrumCo
THE best I've ever heard. The response speed when striked is excellent. HH's need to respond extremely fast and CLEAR when playing jazz. These ARE the ticket for clubbing and recording. Great job!
Totally agree with the comments and what you said, the balance between the chick and sound/feel under sticks sounds perfect! Hope to afford a commission or a batch drop from you someday for some hats and a ride. Your ability to capture vintage cymbal sounds in new cymbals is truly inspiring! 🙌🏻
I had a pair of 16" hats. Loved them. They sounded just like the hats in this video. Can't say I realized what I've been missing until I heard this video. They had that same deep-bodied sound and I remember that feeling of being able to "dig into them", too. Sorry, I sold them now. Enjoyed the video.
They sound lovely. Really nice, and definitely one of those “jazz” hats that works great for rock too, because of that brightness. And liked the video after 3 seconds when you straight away basically hugged the hi hats, that’s love. :-)
Fantastic - I thought when you posted the first clip that your inspiration was some old As, very nicely done. This is a much needed niche - so many smiths are targeting the old K thing (and do it well IMO), not enough go for that glassy brilliant old A vibe. Make some rides and some big crashes to match! Crashes might be the biggest hit, with the thinnest old As going for the biggest bucks, it's hard to justify delegating them to that role.
Love the sound of those hi-hats!!! You wouldn't believe it, but literally today I purchased a pair of Meinl 15" jazz thin hh's, mainly for home recording purposes. I have seriously thought about commissioning a pair from you, the down side is, 1/ delivery costs to Australia, & 2/ probably having to pay import duty. However, when all's said and done, the year is still young. Great work, Timothy.
Man them sound absolutely amazing.i love the sizzle when you crack them open just a tad.the chick sound is perfect.Keep making them sir, they will definitely sell.
I can definitely make another set very similar! There's an order form for a commission on my website. Take a look and let me know if you have any questions! reveriedrums.com/shop/p/hi-hat-cymbal-commission
Call em the Reverie or Timothy Hi Hats. Would love to see the 14inch version or even the 16inch version. Display them in your booth & trade shows etc. What you have championed and its mastery ITS YOURS. Sound very nice...

Ni doubt very full Sound for the Chicks and the choos as Well as the Puffs. What do you think of 12" hihats for Piano Trios little ie e.g. Oscar Peterson with a Lot of high frequencies ?
Really glad to hear that you are going to make more of them! That’s a sweet model! Also enjoyed the nod to Art Blakey in the last little clip you played. 😊
Great work! Seems they would really hold it together while playing brush patterns as well. Like you said: great small group or recording hats! I think they would work for a wide range of settings! I like something a little darker myself (Steve Gadd, K’s maybe?). I will keep watching!
They sound fantastic! Great stick definition and solid chick. You may be the only person who could make hats and ride that I like better than the 70s A Zildjians I have been using for 22 years. I just haven’t found anything I like better, but at the same time I get tired of the same sounds. I absolutely love the bright sound of these and the 15” diameter keeps them from being too tinny/hissy with half open sounds. You’re a wizard!

they sound amazing, i would really like to know how much one has to pay for cymbals like this, is it comparable to the highest end of the common brands?

being the best pair of hi hats *youve* made is like being the best diamond in a jewellery shop
You're a bit negative, aren't you?
@@boomerguy9935 what? i meant as in all of his cymbals are so good that being the best out of all of them is a mighty feat
OK. I misread this. Sorry. His cymbals are fantastic and so are his skills.@@net6403

Yeah man! A good set of 12s are amazing
Yep, I saw Bobby Durham once with Oscar in Switzerland and He used them. Seems hard nowadays to.find them on the market, they mostly sell only 13" s
@@buddabirne4661 wow I bet that was incredible.
@@ReverieDrumCo Yep, He played a very great solo on a small fibes drumset, Crossstickings and great Melodic phrases, IT was Back in 1969-70 I guess.
