I never thought that Michael was THAT guy who could pull off what he was trying to do in F1. The fact of the matter is, he hasn't been able to win consistently in a spec series so what makes him so sure that he could actually assemble the talent needed to successfully design a F1 car from the ground up? On top of that, I always thought that he was using the Cadillac name to get to where he wanted to be in F1 but what company in their right mind would spend millions of dollars designing a F1 PU with no guarantees that it would even see the track particularly after that company made the statement that it was with Andretti or no one.

He’s had majority control of Andretti global for over a year. And runs group 1001. Not a MASSIVE player in insurance but 65billion AUM nothing to sneeze at. Importantly, Gainbridge is one of their entities. This should have been seen coming. You don’t get a 9 figure infusion to break ground and then not have some type of fall out. Given the expansion of gainbridge In terms of visibility, they were always going to be aggressive about this. Shocked it took this long for it to be spelled out. I wonder if there was a delay with the assumption the Andretti name leading the F1 push was needed. Which makes given the amount of focus the “Andretti” name was to the bid in the media atleast. Now it should make sense to folks why they didn’t engage in the necessary follow up inquiries, or atleast strongly advised, to clear up any discrepancies and remaining follows the FIA had. A gainbridge owned heavy player in Indy is just one critical factor that might make FOM weary. But money talks and bullsht runs the marathon. Ironically I think their chances now that it may be official we’ll see over the coming days as that team will now be a lot more liquid. F1 doesn’t care where your money comes from, for better or worse. So long as it’s in your account and can verify spent.

Waaay too much drama and meritless ambition with Andretti. Ambitions at Andretti are out there way ahead of the skis. Rossi, a top 3 series driver at the time, got screwed and got out of there when they overextended the number of cars and hired people like Devlin D and Grojean to drive for them, watering down Rossi's critical support team. Now, there is this new multi million dollar facility...how the hell will that be paid for? And now Zapata, WTF? Sounds like Michael may have a serious personal financial problems, to say the least. Oh, those irritating Depositions....
Andretti Global is constant chaos in the panicked quest to get up there with Ganassi and Penske at the same time they want into F1. Yeah, that's the ticket. Without Colton Herta, where would this team be today?
Way too far over the skis, seriously overextended. An federal investigation involving a former Andretti employee does not suprise in the least. Sounds like some people who left the team were pissed off. It starts with a core personality flaw with Michael, same as decades ago when he thought he would go to F1 and dominate. Michael, a great CART racer, has never been a team owning genius, and now it seems F1 wants nothing to do with him. Again, NOT a surpise.

    Thoughts:
    1. Michael is retiring and transferring ownership to to Marco or some other heir.
    2. Michael is in dire financial straights and is desperate for cash. Probably related to the Zapata deal.
    3. Andretti Global is in dire financial straights and Michael is being forced out in some sort of restructuring. Could be related to Zapata or the failed F1 bid.
    4. It wasn't Michael, but another owner, who got the FBI involved in the dispute with Rahal, leading to a dispute and Michael's departure.
    5. That Zapata deal smells fishy. Are the FBI, SEC, and/or other authorities, looking into it?
    6. The timing doesn't _necessarily_ mean much. Something could've happened months ago and been kept quiet until the end of the season.

This whole ordeal makes the scenario of Walkinshaw Andretti United (the Supercars team) being fully absorbed into Toyota Gazoo Racing much more probable. Michael leaves all of his motorsport operations outside of Indycar, so he'll leave Supercars. Zak Brown has a conflict of interest with Toyota, so he'll probably leave anyway. So Ryan Walkinshaw is going to be left alone as team principal of Toyota GR Waklinshaw. The Supercars excursion of both Andretti and Brown has been left unattended most of the time anyway. We'll probably never gonna see Chaz Mostert in an Indycar now.

Potentially, I'm sure in business to business sponsorship deals where the sponsor actually provides goods and services to a team e.g. McLaren F1 are sponsored by DeWalt who provide wheel guns etc. the deals are probably structured like that primarily for tax reasons.

  •  Месяц назад +1

Andretti Global could have had better luck appealing to the Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission or the European Court of Justice against Formula One Group on the basis of a breach of European competition law:
_“Refusing to supply a competitor with a good or service,[63] often in a bid to drive them out of the market.”_
F1 can be considered a service to promote sponsoring brands and car manufacturers (such as Cadillac/GM). The teams already in F1 refusing other teams to get in may be deemed as a cartel refusing a competitor the service of having access to the hype around a team being in F1.

I don't think so. Knowing andrettis big mouth, he would have probably said so long ago. Makes me wonder, could this be the reason the F1 bosses didn't let Andretti in? They do have more insider information on the motorsport world. They probably knew andretti wasn't stable to begin with.

I've been worried about Group 1001 and all of the associated companies for a while now. It feels like they have invested way too much into motorsports, too quickly. I was worried about what would happen when all of these companies go bust. Like DC Solar a few years back, the lender Amerquest back in the mid-2000s or Big Daddy's BBQ sauce back in the late 90'. I don't see how any of it can be sustainable.
