Great story. Though fictional, it paint's a vivid period (historical) picture.
The story is about a a man from the Gikuyu district of Murang'a, who want's to marry a woman from the district of Nyeri during the 1952 State of Emergency where Gikuyu movement and assembly was highly restricted, even criminalized.
Besides Ngugi Wa Thiong'o, Kamaru is one of the artists that has contributed most to Gikuyu literature.

@@maureenmwema6052 Kamaru himself says that the love story is fictional. He composed the song and gave it the setting of 1952 during the Emergency. Yaani ni kama vile Ngugi Wa Thiong'o ameandika Ngahika Ndenda (I will marry when I want). The story is fictional but it is set in post independence Kenya and showcases the relationship between the Mwananchi andthe Serikali.
