I used to live in la puente .. I remember ditching highschool in the 90s and taking the bus to the mall with all my cronies... .. would frequent that mall because of the movies.. up til 2015 and I took my baby for pictures with Santa.. .. I moved outta la puente after my mom went to heaven in 2018... I'm teary eyed with memories.. I've walked those same steps.... .. that was See's a candy..
They should just turn all these dead malls into like a hybrid commercial/residential spot. That would be interesting living in a internal self-contained community where all the stores and restaurants are within a short walking distance from your living quarters.
There are kinda sorta 1s like that here. Residents upper floors and retail/restaurants down below but it's cheaper to shop & eat elsewhere vs on property
When people started ordering online few decades ago it was the beginning of the end of many malls across America, only mall I know of that's still going strong today is the Riverside Tyler Mall in southern California.
There is a really old mall in New Jersey that converted the upper floor into residential use and the lower redeveloped. It really looked cool. Very successful too
Good morning Jay and Merry Xmas. Thank you for this video. Nice delorean collectible. Apparently Jada toys is located on Gale Ave just 1 block of Fullerton Rd. Right next to Railroad st that runs behind the building (parallel to the RR tracks). Take care.
Merry Christmas to you. Kinda cool it's a collectible that was distributed local as of where some of the movie was filmed. Even tho they Jada distributes other toys too.
We use to go to the AMC theater for Halloween movies that the theater would show a new horror or thriller movie then an old movie such as Halloween, Friday the 13th or Freddy Krueger film. Then go and eat lunch or dinner in the food court and show our movie theater tickets for a discount and go and see another film. And show our movie theater ticket to get a discount on Baskin Robbins ice cream and proceed home. Nice memories!
This was my neighborhood mall growing up. Thanks for sharing times have changed. Where’s my Delorian? Time to go back to the future! FYI that movie was filmed here!
Back in the 80s around Christmas time, this place would have been wall to wall people shopping, and having a good time. The chicks back then would actually dress up nice, as well as the dudes. At this day and age, you see people shopping wearing their PJs and crocs. I know times evolve, but the internet has killed a lot of businesses. Most people don't even leave their house anymore.
I wish I had gone to this mall when I moved to SoCal in 2003. It looks like they're trying to follow the example of other malls entering the mixed-development model. Have you looked into spending some time at Garden Walk in Anaheim? It was a mall that was dead on arrival. Keep up the fun videos!
@@jvargas6034 I live nearby. It does get business every once in awhile. It hosts the A Tasty of Japan yearly. It got a new AMC and House of Blues a few years ago after Disney basically evicted them from Downtown Disney lol. To me it seems it still has a mix of successful stores and dead stores right next to each other. It's not the best but it's surprisingly been better than when they started. I remember almost 10 years ago when it was Always Completely dead.
i remember that mall in its heyday it was a nice mall and that restaurant makinos buffet served good food i miss it and i am a member of 24 hour fitness and still go there.
I used to come to this mall back in the 80s when the RTD bus used to come up here now it's LA Metro now LA Metro does not go up there no more on a foothill Transit does but that won't be for long
I wonder how the few thriving tenants will work around whatever re-development this mall may have. I personally think with the immense 56 acres this mall sits on, the new owner, RCB Equites, needs to create a mixed-development destination to increase foot traffic. Apartments (freeway noise is gonna suck for sure) and outdoor retail that can chain everything together.
1 of the retail workers said but can't confirm yet that the spread out tenants may need to move to other parts of the mall so the mall can do whatever planned in the future
Eventually i will be all over. Holidays are almost gone. Pay off things then roll out. I do have a 4 day a week job too so days off sometimes are needed for arrons & things. But.....ill be going all over soon
Shopping has changed with brick and mortar cuz of online sales are cheaper then the pandemic didnt help either. Youngsters know apps vs going to a mall
What's the point and a waste of resources to just keep the lights on. The last time I was at Puente Hills Mall was around 2018 and went to the movies. It was dead then.
Visited that mall with my cousin who lived near by there in West Covina in the late 1970’s. We saw “ Moonraker” and the “ Amittyville Horror” at the theatre there. I later learned that was the mall used in “ Back to the Future “. how sad that it’s a dead mall.

YES, the final Christmas. The tell tale signs are there. Closed escelators, blocked sections, shut down fountains are usually the final stages.
I'm guessing partial demo in 2025 in phases.

Some cities/states are indeed doing this.

@@HEYMANWITHJAYMAN I think that was the original intention for the mall right before the Covid-19 pandemic then the company gave up on it.

They need to do that here. Not sure of the logistics or if that's profitable in CA?

Haven't been to Garden Walk. I have free Disney parking so it's easily walkable to get there
How Is The Anaheim GardenWalk Doing Nowadays?

I wonder what they will do with the Twin Pines Mall sign. I hope they find a permanent home for it.
Sad to see the end of Twin Pines/Lone Pine mall.
Yeah an era gone by the wayside
I Agree With You That This Is Possibly The Last Christmas For Puente Hills Mall. When Do You Think This Mall Will Permanently Close?
Not sure but i bet sections would close vs the whole thing at once. In phases i would think to rebuild
The Ross and AMC are still in business. I hope that never changes
They may remain in the redevelopment.
I can picture the AMC staying
So Do you think that it will become some kind of bus hub
Im not from that area so couldn't say. There always seem like a bunch of buses over there tho
Have you heard anything on what AMC plans to do?
No. No idea. Nice theater tho

Oh wow. I was literally there about 4pm the same day, but I was at the Round 1.
I was eating at another dead mall at that time frame. I went from PHM to Westminster mall
😱 sincere -- the blocked off sections of the phm. 😔
20:29 .. that Mongolian beef place was delicious 😋
I should of ate there 2 months ago when i was there
let's find out at this mall about 7 months later
See what happends

Yeah why do these malls keep it afloat. Cant be profitable at this point. Only they know the logistics that they're doing
i wonder if it will become apartmenst too
Roland H.S 1984 ..

Yeah, starting them off young...lol
