It occurred to me that I've hiked in that area when I lived in NC when you said Linville gorge wilderness. I hiked every weekend just about. It's been over 20 years since I've lived there. It was beautiful there.
So, all the places you travelled in this ep are super familiar to me because I live there! ( Little Switzerland, Spruce Pine) You drove down roads I take to work everyday and passed trailheads I hiked before. You said the Smokies are next on your route, and I grew up there and lived there most of my life so I'm sure I'll see familiar places in that vid too. Happy trails! On a side note, there are alot of forest service roads in Pisgah that are gated and rarely allowed motorized traffic. Some of them are seasonal, not well maintained, and some of them start out as a gravel road and quickly turn into double track or single tracks so it's better that you didnt try to sneak around the gates.
That’s awesome that you recognize those places! Hopefully you recognize some more places in the following episode too! That’s good to know about the roads in Pisgah, I definitely wouldn’t want to end up on an unmaintained single track trail!
Have there been high winds in N. Carolina that brought down all of those trees and limbs? That saw you carry is great. The saw and a good multi-tool can be your best friends offroading.
Excellent post! IDK Alex, I think I would have gone through the gate. People walking the trail would do it. Twenty years is a ridiculously long time to close the trail. I'm enjoying the beauty. For anyone who hasn't bought Alex's book Fruit of the Unknown, it is a must-read. I honestly could not put it down. It is very well written I only wish he could have added a few pictures!! :)
Thank you so much Andi! If I was walking I’d go through the gate too! I just have to be super careful where I take my big heavy bike because if I got stuck down there I wouldn’t have any help to get me out. I’m so glad you enjoyed the book!! 😊🙏❤️
Hi Alex 👋 Thank you, appreciate you my friend 🙏 luckily that big blow down wasn't completely blocking your way👍hope all is going well, stay safe and take care my friend, beautiful views 🙏🇺🇲🏍
Thanks so much Matt! It’s a blast! I definitely am getting more comfortable and confident with the experience I’m getting out here! 🙏 I appreciate your kind words!
I’m confused. This is episode 8 and it shows little Switzerland NC but when I googled the distance from bags head where you started it’s only 6 hours away but in this episode it’s multiple days you have been on the road? But I will say I love the content and will be watching till the end! 10th MTN DIV FORT DRUM NY! 🫡

Oh wow that’s so cool! Seems like such a great area to live!
Stellar Views ... Some "ridgerunning" brush work. That saw is a beast ...
Thanks for watching Joe! Man I love that saw!

Yeah there have been some storms lately, quite a few blow-downs! Yes I’m so glad I have the saw! I do carry a multi-tool too just in case!

alex you should work for the forestry service😁. that trail seemed a lot narrower than earlier ones.
Lol yes! If they ever need a full-time traveling motorcyclist I’m signing up!
