    I won't call them astronauts as they just peaked their heads just above the official 100KM Karmanline for maybe 1-2 minutes before they already fall through it. It is a cheap way to count you as astronauts. I would say the minimum you have to reach is litterly Orbital velocity where you fligh fast enough you won't fall back into the atmosphere but litterly fall around the planet, that is really experiencing micro gravity for much longer time and to become astronaut you must at least 1 time circle the planet in orbital velocity where they have more time than just minutes to get the feeling beeing weightless. Most of the time of being weightless is below the Karmanline, so you can't call this a genuinely spaceflight. If you are in orbit you will see the earth litterly from another perspective I only saw clouds.
    So for me it is comparing putting your toe in an icebath and saing you have been "in" the ice bath. So what they have done in comparison to a real space flight is almost the same as you train in a parabolic plane that goes up very steep and when reaching apogee and falling down you create also a weightless experience. So finally in this New Shepard achieved weightlessness purely trough the effect of going up fast and falling down and real astronauts achieve weightlesness dual to orbital velocity flight. And there is a huge gap in between those achievements.

    • @StrangeScaryNewEngland
      @StrangeScaryNewEngland 2 месяца назад +3

      Alan Shepherd, the first American in space, did not make a full orbit. He was up there for something like 11-15 minutes? He is considered an astronaut.
      I fully agree, though, that a handful of smug, egotistical rich people who go above the line for 2 minutes should NOT be called astronauts. They did nothing for space exploration, nor did they do anything to advance the Human race like the NASA astronauts and the Russian Cosmonauts.
      In fact, I'll add, that calling these "bros" astronauts is a MASSIVE slap in the face to all astronauts and cosmonauts that have lived before and still do.

    • @DoomShepherd
      @DoomShepherd 2 месяца назад

      @@StrangeScaryNewEngland Do you know the crew biographies? Agree that HALF of them are simply wealthy tag-alongs, but we also have a cardiologist, a professor who conducts experiments in microgravity (including a NASA-funded experiment on this flight) and is funded by an organization promoting Lunar settlement, and a college student astronomy major.

    • @LennardA320
      @LennardA320 2 месяца назад +1

      @StrangeScaryNewEngland I totally agree with you. For the first American flight it was the absolute 1st time and even longer in space than the joke of Blue Origin some rich people want some expensive short lived joy. I respect astronauts because it is a highly complicated job and it is not for everyone. Look at Boeing starliner and Butch and Sunny already seasoned astronauts went from 8 days now to 8 months! That must be cool extra more spacemiles but it must be hard to hear because you expect 8 maybe a day more due to weather. So that are real astronauts. Those from Blue Origin only have 3 days training. They add no value than maybe fueling the already big pockets of uncle Jeff.

    • @LennardA320
      @LennardA320 2 месяца назад +1

      @DoomShepherd Yes they try some research but how valuable is that. Those 2 minutes in 'space' you can not research the effect on humans. Yes maybe some experiments that really need some more weightlessness time than you get in a parabolic flight what is about 20 seconds every time.

    • @StrangeScaryNewEngland
      @StrangeScaryNewEngland 2 месяца назад

      @@DoomShepherd That is totally fine and dandy, but they can't go around now telling people that "I'm an astronaut". Like Lennard said, what on Earth (or in the lower atmosphere lol) could they possibly research and learn from in 2 minutes?

    A few people mentioning hard landing... that's not so. It only looks like it's hard. The capsule would have hit the ground at 16mph, but braking thrusters fire a fraction of a second before contact is made dropping the contact speed pretty close to zero. That's why you get the sudden explosion of dust on landing.
