Really interesting talk thank you. As a teacher of young children and younger teens, I find it so difficult to recommend books if I haven’t read them myself. I think if there was a clearer teen/YA/ NA distinction it would be easier for booksellers, teachers and parents to help teens pick good books without accidentally recommending a super spicy book to a 13 year old. I am gobsmacked RY or her publisher didn’t at least get a Gaelic speaker to do a sensitivity read and help her with pronunciation pre-interview. The Celtic languages were oppressed and some even outlawed by the English in an attempt to wipe them out, so if you know anything about their history, it seems disrespectful to just flippantly dismiss the correct pronunciation like that. A little bit of care with this and it may have been seen as a positive way to promote an endangered language. Great discussion - thank you for sharing your thoughts.
