Probably not unless you have popular booktok tropes and uninspired, cliche plots. I have no doubt your book is gonna be better than this, but as a professional ghostwriter who's worked with large companies, that's exactly why it won't sell as well as fourth wing, sadly.
I agree with your opinion on what new adult is. The characters are usually supposed to be adult but they behave like teenagers and every other page is about how horny they are for each other. I rather read real YA then.
The change I would make to this: Zayden and the other rebel kids are punished by being forced to serve the Riders. Violet is forced by her mother to become a Rider and is barely surviving. She accidentally discovers that Zayden has secretly bonded a dragon and is a combat badass, and in an exchange for not spilling his secret he agrees to train her on the DL. Through that relationship, Violet starts to question everything she's ever been told about her country and her own family.
Of all the time I've consumed written media, I've never been more disappointed in people. I always hear people say "Dont yuck other people's yum" and to that I said, "no, I will yuck as long as After, Gothikana, Fourth Wing and Coho is your yum, I dont give a damn" cause holy hell books like these make me question if people read books for what they're actually worth. I'm not even trying to raise the standard, im merely putting it at the baseline while people expect so much less. Like why? What is the point of this book? There are so many better ways to get into fantasy, and many more ways to get into romance, the fact that people consider this a gateway to both genuinely made me consider if booktok created a deeper layer to hell And the world building, the power system, the logic behind its rules, they're all flimsier than my mental fortitude after years of abuse. Why do you kill everyone despite being low on numbers? Why are you drafting in known criminals just to give them the power to overthrow you almost immediately? HOW COME YOU CANT KILL SOMEONE IN THEIR SLEEP BUT OUTRIGHT GENOCIDE IS BY THE BOOK??? Rebecca, read some JoJo's. Read any decently rated comic run. Play dead space. Learn to create a cohesive set of rules if you plan on following them at the very least, because basing five books off of this landfill is a waste of ink, paper, and the time of the internet.
Colleen Hoover aka "CoHo" books outright romanticizing and glorifying domestic physical, verbal and s*xual abuse and psychotic behavior are bad enough. @@notreal9214 Right? Fantasy and Fantasy Romance stories that either star dragons or have them be a part of the story is a gold mine, a truly beloved trope and concept. And one of my own personal favorites. Too bad these books took a dump all over it. It’s embarrassing just to think about, especially when it could have been done so much better like other similar books before it. I heard that this is supposed to be a five book series, and I shudder at the thought of how the remaining books will be like, should they ever see the light of day. Most reviews - a good 99% that I’ve seen thus far - regarding the first two alone are all negative. Sadly, this is one more series of books I will be skipping. I don't know if anyone pointed this out in the comments, but the Threshing is a rip-off of Anne McCaffrey's Pern series when canidates were chosen by a dragon. In McCaffrey's books no one would think of approaching breeding grounds...hatching grounds yes, but no one interferes in any part of the process of dragons mating in McCaffrey's books until she set up a scenario where someone did. And it wasnt pretty. McCaffrey's dragon bonding with rider scenes did rely on how a riders personality meshed with a dragon. My guess is that Yarros read through some of McCaffrey's work and put a spin on it. Or her publisher let her in on it. Its pretty astounding that 4th Wing came out in May of 2023 and then we have Iron Wing here at the end of the year in what is obviously what is known as a "crash book" .. rushed for publication. I really wish I could read this book for 10 bucks because its not worth being charged nearly 30 dollars for the paperback and the hardback.

The chief problem is this book is the premise doesn't work. Violet is fragile and in a death college. You didn't need both things to make it work. There are so many other reasons for people to hate Violet and want her death. You can leave her at 5'2" and its a big deal because everyone was 6'. In fact, Yarros could have made that a requirement and General Sorrengale still pushed Violet through. It feels like she wanted to add on as many fanfic tags and that is the only reason its a death college. As a fantasy, it isn't horrible. But it feels like she didn't know how to world build for fantasy or military or military fantasy. So many things don't make sense. 3/5 not considering the anachronistic language and 2/5 if you consider the language. Edit: Dain is okay at the beginning of the book. He is an overprotective old friend. I agree the violation of his memory is horrible. However, the moment she bonded with the powerful black morningstartail, that whole, you don't belong here BS should have ended. It was a love line, she is point a and he is point b.
Thinking of it now, Violet's mom seems to have so little impact on her besides just enrolling her. Its not like she has 24/7 surveillance cause she was attacked in the middle of the night and wasn't contacted by anyone higher up. Like why can't she go AWOL? Why not just settle in a random village and then your dragons can piss off to wherever until something happens.
Well this has officially convinced me that whatever I write will never be as bad as this 😬 I'm a terrible writer but even while writing I'm constantly questioning what or why my characters are doing or saying something and how that will affect what happens next, it seems to me this author didn’t do much questioning while writing this book

I only liked this book cause of the dragons but I was under the impression violet only won fights in the beginning because she would drug her opponent, not that she was good at everything besides the dagger throwing which was a skill she had before entering the college, that xaden wasn’t really in a position of power in the military, just in the training school. Like in the actual real world military being a team or squad leader(depending on your country) you’re just in charge of the rest of the trainees in your platoon but when it comes to the actual military hierarchy you’re at the bottom, also everyone being shocked about the baby dragon wasn’t that they didn’t know there aren’t baby dragons is that the dragons tell humans nothing, making them believe feather tails were another breed of dragons and not actually baby dragons. this is the third rant review i'm watching about this book and I'm still so excited haha Like yeees talk about that one stupid scene and the other stupid scene, cant waiiiit
There's probably at least 2 top tier erotica books and 4 underrated fantasy books floating around on booktok that will be passed up in favor of "The Fourth Wing"...oh my gosh man, my condolences to all of them 🙏😭
I’ve only watched the intro so far and I’m already here for your sass and opinions. Can’t wait to see you drag this book *cough* I mean review it 😂 (Spoilers if it wasn’t obvious: I didn’t like 4th Wing either lol)
I'll admit, I almost fell for the hype with Fourth Wing. It kept popping up almost everywhere I went, whether it was online or at the store, to the point where I went "Okay, fine! You've tempted me enough, I'm picking you up!" And I admit, I enjoyed the book for a while, probably because I wasn't looking too deep into it. Even the questionable dialogue (for example, the "Holy F**king Hot!" line) got some big laughs out of me. Sometimes you can enjoy something dumb by just going along and finding humor in it. Eventually though, the book started to drag, the details blurring together, and the stupidity reaching an all-time high. I started wondering "If the country is so desperate for more soldiers for the war, then why keep killing off potential recruits who can be used for different regiments besides dragon riding?", and from there the problems kept mounting up, which eventually led to me DNFing Fourth Wing and giving it away (I stopped at around the deadly obstacle course was completed, shortly after someone died attempting it). Going by everything I looked up about book, and its sequel Iron Flame, I think I made the right choice. Its sad cause I think the premise had some real potential, yet it was all either cast aside in favor of that godforsaken love triangle (why does nearly every fantasy book need to have a love triangle???), or just not executed well at all.
My biggest gripe is moreso the fact that people are saying the book is "fun." But idk, it's not fun for me when there's nothing pulling the plot along and it always just feels like events happen at random. The chapters don't pull me from one to the next, making want to keep reading so I can find out more. It's also just sooooo predictable. Maybe that was why I didn't find it fun. I liked that it had lots of action in the first and final act, but that middle saaaaaaaaaaaagged.
@@SolarmatrixCobra it was fun for me in the beginning because of how stupid it was but there was a certain point where that stupidity was just annoying and not fun anymore
Just saw this. I understand it's hard to write fantasy and good romances so I was curious how it was combined. Even more so because the author is from a military family and litteraly could have asked anyone if her military makes sense but nope. This isn't either a good romance nor good fantasy nor makes the military stuff sense. Fragile bookish girly gets into military death akademie with built in enemies out for her blood. And not because girly always wanted to fly, or because her disability won't matter if she sits on a dragon but because General Mommy makes her go. The book has more plot holes than a Swiss cheese. I could forgive if it was a childrens book, but it isn't. How would I save it? First of all little Violence always dreamt of flying. If she just could bond with a dragon her weakness wouldn't matter. Sitting on a Dagon (In a saddle! There is a reason knights used a saddle and war elephants had platforms. And concept drawings of dragon saddles exist since the eighty... ) using her bond powers she too could be a warrior. But her talents were scouted for the libraries and General Mom and her sister are absolutely against it. Why? Because the king decided to get rid of the older rebell children this year and this year is reserved for them and will be especially deadly and the classes are set to not teach them how to survive. Of course it's not supposed to be that obvious so a few children of important persons are drafted by lottery and a hand full of commoners are thrown in. It's disgusted as their big chance. V is furious when she learns her name wasn't even in the pot. Adding heartache to injured teenage ego her crush Dan gets to go. So V sneaks in. As soon as she passes the parathing she is part of the wing. Mommy is horrified. But it's to late and V needs to form alliances and turn enemies into friends. Now it's ride or die! 😂 That should patch up a lot.
ahhhh this was so fun to watch lol. I genuinely enjoyed this book for basically the reason you stated - it brought a sense of nostalgia & intense romanticism that books like divergent & twilight gave me as a tween. I don't think these books will hold up over time. it's honestly impressive how Yarros has maintained excitement for this series with the material she's working with lol. have to give her / her team credit where its due. im obsessed with vids dragging fourth wing ofmg
I spent 60 dollars on this and the sequel without seeing any reviews, and this book is so garbage. How do you fuck up a fantasy academia with dragons, what surprises me the most is how loved this book is. Smh 🤦♂️
loved everything about this and agree 100%. this book was a waste of my time and i'm glad i had the foresight not to give into the hype and buy it LOL a friend on goodreads said "this is by a woman who jerks off to military propaganda" and it makes so much sense because yarros doesn't have the range to write about imperialism.
Will you review my historical fiction novel “Four The Culture” It’s about the Greensboro Four! I’ve already gotten two 5 star ratings but I want a book-tuber’s opinion! I can send you the manuscript for free (it’s only 206 pages)
Side note: Good thing you cancelled the second book. I've been hearing have the quality control on the spray edges was not good. I went to look for one for a friend that lives overseas and the audacity for them to rush this out so much. Looked like a cat clawed the edges.
You're so excitable and peppy it's great! It really is a shame that trash books like this, like Twilight, Divergent, 50 Shades get so much attention but quality stories get shoved off to the side. I don't even know what to look for anymore if I want to get reading to help with my own novel writing because what seems to be popular is about as good as the scum growing on the side of a building.
Btw: we have original… if the reader have the patience to read… here is war… and…. well… dragons… ruclips.net/video/_c2OCjRH25w/видео.htmlsi=yztXdnh26XjurbfA

Can’t wait to see you drag this book *cough* I mean review it 😂
(Spoilers if it wasn’t obvious: I didn’t like 4th Wing either lol)
I respect the petty 😎
I'll admit, I almost fell for the hype with Fourth Wing. It kept popping up almost everywhere I went, whether it was online or at the store, to the point where I went "Okay, fine! You've tempted me enough, I'm picking you up!"
And I admit, I enjoyed the book for a while, probably because I wasn't looking too deep into it.
I adore how honest this review and this account seems 😂❤
I pledge to tell the truth and nothing but the truth🙏
@@Luluandherbooks we love that😂🫶
As a critical thinker I can't stand when books don't follow their own logic 😭 great review, made me feel seen lmao, I'll suscribe ❤
😂
That should patch up a lot.
@@mercycunningham2813 you just wrote what Fourth Wing should have been and I am now unreasonably angry that this doesn't exist
i mean i wouldn't say he was gunning for her at all, he had several opportunities to kill; her and never did soooo
True but honestly he's only like mildly annoyed by her existence for a good while lol
ahhhh this was so fun to watch lol.
I KNOW RIGHT. Like what is this war about, who leads this country, and why on Earth are you setting this up like some plot with porn fanfic on ao3?
Found this video and now I’m subscribed ☺️
Why do I get the feeling that they are hyping up and publishing unedited fan fictions or web novels recently 😂😂😂
don't you dare disrespect Rhysand like that 🔪. Rhysand might not be the best role model and a bit sus at times but at least he has a personality😤
Fair lol
I like the cover tho 😄
Shame it was wasted
Where did you get your bookshelves? They look so good ❤
They’re the basics Ikea Billy shelves🫶
@@Luluandherbooks thx 💙
Will you review my historical fiction novel “Four The Culture” It’s about the Greensboro Four! I’ve already gotten two 5 star ratings but I want a book-tuber’s opinion! I can send you the manuscript for free (it’s only 206 pages)
Wasted 40 dollars on the shitty fanfic 😂😂😂 loved the review.
Side note: Good thing you cancelled the second book. I've been hearing have the quality control on the spray edges was not good. I went to look for one for a friend that lives overseas and the audacity for them to rush this out so much. Looked like a cat clawed the edges.
I literally saw a copy at walmart and it smelled like oil
@@Luluandherbooks That was a $32 book! No ma'am.
Again, popularity and quality are not synonymous 😭
So i would assume that you won't be moving forward with this series?
I'm still cleaning the dust from how fast I canceled the pre-order🤣
I thought you finished the whole book before this video. I'm going to look for other videos that actually finished the book.
Completely fair. I just couldn't force myself to continue
Good review, new sub from me
Most romantacy is trashy smut garbage these days.
Even ACOTAR: enemies to lovers? You mean SA deviant/victim to lovers? Not my cup of tea.
This book is pure 💩💩💩.
Btw: we have original… if the reader have the patience to read… here is war… and…. well… dragons… ruclips.net/video/_c2OCjRH25w/видео.htmlsi=yztXdnh26XjurbfA
