Yea man I hear ya. I really don’t like how the blade adapters don’t fit properly. If your gonna make a product it needs to fit the specifications of that mower.
I love the Ballard Hi Lift blades for bagging on my Timemaster. Best looking cut you're ever going to get! Yes, the adapters on these (and some other aftermarket blades) fit tight but they just need a little pressing in and punching out. The ripper could be leaving stragglers because of extra drag on the blade from longer cutting edge plus added air resistance from higher sail (teeth). This may be slightly slowing down the blade tip speed or the higher teeth may be causing some air turbulence under the deck that doesn't allow all the grass blades to stand up uniformly before being cut. I have tried many different blades on my TM and have come back to the Toro Atomics for my general mulching cuts (low lift Atomic in wet conditions or lush grass like springtime) and higher lift version of Atomics for the rest of the season. Gators or Ballard Rippers will mulch leaves better when conditions are dry. Ballard Hi Lifts when bagging is necessary.
I ran a set of these on my 32 inch encore years ago. They do leave stragglers when mowing tall grass, but the clippings are pretty fine cut and they are very long lasting blades. Even on their website it says theyre for spring and fall cleanups. I used them just for that where i’d normally be mulching with more that one pass anyway, and thats where they really shine. When i ran them as X blades, which i could do on the encore, they didnt leave stragglers anymore, but it does take more horsepower to turn them. They offer several different styles of blades, so you might want to try the others too. Theyre all thick heavy duty blades.
They are no doubt stronger blade for sure. I tried them again on my new TimeMaster and the darn things hit the sides. I am starting to believe bought the HDX blades and not TimeMaster blades.
My Ballard Hi lift blades fit the blade adapters perfectly and love the way they cut. Could always just open the blade holes up that tiny bit to fit properly
I got the Hi Rise blades for my Timemaster and they have the same fitment issue with the holes. They cut decent, just think they’re too heavy for the mower. Prefer the OEMs. Been thinking about trying Gator Blades but not sure
@@CB57 yea I don’t agree with drilling the holes bigger that may weaken the blades. If they were so much better than OEM I could see it being worth it but that’s not the case. 👍🏼
@@Born2doom I did just stick with the OEM. But have a snapper pro I just got and got the ripper and high lifts. I put the high lifts on it and it cuts amazing. That’s why I said a commercial mower the blades are good for it.
Oh sweet stripes and the grass does look good Tony. Oh thank you for the shoutout always glad to show support. That's crazy how it doesn't stay flushed and I'm sure it was a pain to get off. Yea I want to get some good blades for leaves. Great video brother 👊💯
What's up Fellaaaa! Thanks for sharing. Good infomative video. Those Ballards have some nice heft to them. You may as well hang onto them. They look like they'll make some really nice weapons for the coming Zombie Apocalypse! hahaha! Have a GREAT weekend!
Yep I has problems with the. Ripper blades they are to heavy for small mowers .. even my ferris fw15. Strange it seems like they would be better. I think the tip on the end meesis up the air flow. Speed is important to cut quality. Lighter is better.
@@thecuttingforce yes on a manicured lawn they worked good but on some properties they left those stragglers. But maybe they would be good for leaves didn’t try them cause I used the grandstand for that.
I have 4 acres that I get to cut maybe 4 times a year. With alot of pine trees factory blades don't last 1 cut. Ballard blades shine in bad stuff they're harder metal and heavier that just beats weeds and grass into submission. There on a cub cadet xt2 gx50 with a spindle upgrade and a 25hp koler engine
Definitely are better made with stronger metal. But that’s to me adds the weight and in manicured lawns to me they don’t cut as nice as the factory blades. But maybe that is just with this type of mower that is a residential mower.
Yea well this is the TimeMaster that’s Toro’s Residential 30 inch. But on their website it says it fits. They are just a tad heavy for sure. Maybe they are designed for the HDX 30. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@@ThayWay3 well if you are going to look for one try Harbor Freight they have a good price. I have a Ryobi one I got from their refurbished store works for my zero turn also. If you only have a socket try to put a piece of wood so the blades don’t spin and put a pipe over top the socket for more torque 👍🏼 hope that helps!!
Yea on thick grass I got some but the blade is heavier and also doesn’t sit flush in the adapters. I don’t know maybe it’s me. But are you using the TimeMaster or turf master ??
@@TheLawnFellas timemaster and yeah they dont sit flush initially but torque down i would wager that blade adapter presses into the blade tightly. Interference fit. (google that term)
@@kmain0 yes I know what it means. It will fit tightly together and will require quite force to remove the two parts. Exactly what I experienced from this. I wouldn’t say they are a terrible blade at all. Actually they are a heck of a lot stronger than the OEM blade. But that to me is the problem you are putting a commercial blade on a residential mower. To me the OEM cuts way better but will knick more than the Ballard blade. This I would only use this blade for leaf clean up 👍🏼
@@TheLawnFellas I'm coming from Oregan G5 blades which feel like tanks compared to the ballard... i thought the ballards looked very light weight after taking my Oregans off... I gotta find my OEM blades someday...
Same issues on my TM with Ballard blades. Tossed them in the recycling tote.

Great points for sure. I feel like the Toro OEM blades are best I have tried. I really don’t bag that much. Thanks for the knowledge appreciate it.

For a commercial mower maybe not for the TimeMaster.
