    People who are threatened by their own insecurities due to social pressure find this short film to be immoral. We often fail to realize that Cinema's purpose is not to teach moral lessons! It is about what that character inside that world would do in that situation.

      If the film is realistic, it is okay to portray the real character in all shades. But the film director attempting to give justifications for the behavior of the characters makes us doubt that he intended to glorify those characters.

    A story about Jessie & Karthik... It's not made for the audience. For a 12 minute short film he builds up too much... He thinks of himself as James Cameron who spent 10 years on a script... But in reality GVM doesn't think about the script & audience... His movies become a flop & then he may even blame the audience for not having good taste...

    • @sakthi130
      @sakthi130 4 года назад +1

      @Ash _Maniac Not here to argue or debate...
      Victor became more arrogant only after seeing his wife die! Sathya has to lose his wife and then become emotional. Basically heroine has to die in his action or cop movies & then only hero comes to know what to do.
      Jessie said no to Karthik so many times in VTV, still during quarantine he wants to be in touch with Jessie...
      Even in VTV climax Karthik has to define love & somehow convince audience that Jessie didn't understand what's love... Why not Karthik stop bothering Jessie!
      Karthik could attend some online writing courses, or learn something at home during quarantine or just watch some movies, he could have done something other than calling Jessie.
      Arjun Reddy is completely different. At least he didn't spend 10 years going after someone. I forgot that number (450 or 550). That made Arjun Reddy think he was already married! But nothing like that happened between Karthik & Jessie in VTV!
      I don't know why GVM compares his work with Arjun Reddy!
      Let me tell you why I'm not ignorant... I've watched Titanic in Sathyam theater when I was a kid. I could remember even now that many people were telling that they haven't seen such crowd for Tamil movies except for Superstar movies...
      I watched Titanic 3D & Avatar 3D re release last year in Pune. In Pune Cinepolis they re release Titanic & Avatar at least twice a year.
      As soon as Titanic starts almost everyone knows that Jack has already died. But even after the movie is over almost everyone wishes that Jack could have stayed alive. But the story of Titanic is that Rose wanted to be an independent woman and Jack helped her. But Jack wasn't annoying...
      Coming to Avatar... The whole story is that humans keep destroying the world, ruin the nature, other creatures, but actually humans couldn't understand themselves and they're contradicting themselves... This theme is established in each and every frame of Avatar. I've experienced every minute of the movie, and that's much better than remembering characters names!
      To me the movie as a whole, especially the climax is more important... The story might be just a one line story, but the screenplay, characterization, everything is important...
      If a character is in GVMs mind for more than 10 years then almost everyone who sees that on screen should be convinced. There won't be much criticisms. It's like he don't know what to do with Karthik and Jessie anymore and he picks up the characters during this pandemic and does something, finally he says it's all about life of Karthik and Jessie.
      I'm fed up with GVM movies. I commented because whenever there's a criticism on his work he comes and says that he's not a big director. He could stop right there but then he keeps defending his flawed work! Honestly I'm impressed with Surya's character in Nandha, Pithamagan, Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, but not in VA...
      I'll be ignorant only if I watch GVM movies in future. He clearly says that it's about what Karthik & Jessie gonna do. Suppose if I watch VTV 2 & tell that I don't like it, again there'll be another GVM interview, again he'll be telling that he couldn't control Karthik & Jessie, as if they themselves appear on the screen & GVM couldn't control it!

    The culture angle is stupid. People should stop watching films with this 'fake' moral lens. Let filmmakers write & film what they want to express.
    I'm a big fan of vtv but what I find problematic with 'Karthik dial seidha yen' is the bond Karthik and Jessie share right now. It is borderline toxic especially for Karthik. Anyone irrespective of however 'true & eternal' the love is..will move on after a certain time. If they can't then they are obsessed and addicted to the person. Karthik is so emotionally vulnerable even after 10 years of break up. The only way he can get out is cutting off Jessie completely. Jessie knows this too. Even though she wants to be his wellwisher & a friend she is in a way still enjoying the romantic attention from Karthik. He will be ruined & in a mess till she is in contact.
    The short film is in its way beautiful & has the feels but it's romanticizing & showing 'not being able to move on' as some ideal. The 'happiness' Karthik is getting from glimpses of Jessie after the breakup is like dopamine hit u get from drugs. It makes u desperate & unstable. Karthik can find real happiness only by cutting off Jessie completely. It will be be painful but he'll grow from it like Surya from 'Varanam Ayiram'. This bond with Jessie will also affect his writing. He'll always be stuck in this instability & won't be able to explore other emotions.
    But they are in a way aware of this toxicity. Jessie says"Namale dha namaku aapu vechutirkom". That is the truth
    And GVM's writing too feels quite stuck in a rut for a while now. He is just squeezing more out of the stuff he has explored pretty well already. Music & the nostalgia for GVM's old films are the only connecting bridge between the audience & his work now.

      I personally dint like the film but I agree with your point

    • @rakshithm1257
      @rakshithm1257 4 года назад +18

      Dude it's just a part of VTV2, we don't know Karthik's trajectory until the film releases. By the way 96, the film most people find super romantic is way more toxic than this short film.

    • @shrinathkannan
      @shrinathkannan 4 года назад +10

      I totally agree with the morality angle. It is not a filmmaker's responsibility to write with moral values.
      But I beg to differ with respect to borderline toxicity. It is very tricky to define what toxicity is for a person. Especially Karthik here. Take Abhishek Bachchan from Manmazriyan. It is not like he cannot get another girl in his life. But he chose Tapsee even after she cheating on him after marriage. He chose her because he feels that he will be happy with her. Same for Karthik as well, he feels talking and being in touch with Jessie will make him feel happy and he will keep doing that. The growth of a person is very subjective. We cannot measure every other person's growth with the same yardstick.

    • @balachandarramalingam
      @balachandarramalingam 4 года назад +8

      Relationships are always complex and this what VTV portrayed...on a similar note, I could see that the director is trying here to light up a different dimension from the short clip...GVM is candid and always tries bring the close to real-time stories... As someone said, watch a movie like a movie and don’t get in to it...highly impossible. VTV was a runaway success as the youngster could correlate their relationship status...
      IMO, our new gen will able to differentiate between toxic lines and friendliness... Karthik as a character should change his approach and shouldn’t stalk at Jessie who is committed...otherwise there is no meaning for the word “Move on”.

    • @deepeka134
      @deepeka134 4 года назад +7

      @@shrinathkannan Being in touch isn't the problem..yes it will be beautiful but for that both of them should've moved on. If not, it'll ruin the one who still has the feelings. Karthik is still emotionally the same when he was 22. "I miss u" is fine but "I need u, oru ambalaya kekuren..oru ponna venum" these are all actually creepy n shows he hasn't matured emotionally. He is obsessed with Jessie.
      I didn't feel this with 96 because in that Ram respects Janu's boundaries. He didn't try to rekindle the flame between them instead they were just cherishing the old memories. 96 felt so nostalgic. The beautiful space that GVM keeps mentioning here..I felt that in 96. What Karthi-Jessie are right now is just messy..doesn't feel beautiful

Otherwise, she is guilty of infidelity. The right or wrong of an act depends on how it affects the other persons.

      Like he said Karthik and Jessi are in that zone where they can do this. Not all can and like he said not everyone can do this. This is a story about Karthik and Jessi. People always expect movies to be only good preachy and should tell good things to society. That brand of movies have a separate space. Guess what all these things both good and bad exist in life. If there are only good things in life we all would be happy and there would be no need for war and stuff. Cinema is a medium where a director needs to tell his story his vision. I believe GVM handled this story just as Jessi handled Karthik...😅

    Gautam Menon, nobody will picket outside your house. We accepted Samantha's character in Super Deluxe. Stop acting all superior and start making more progressive and interesting films instead of rehashing your own older script in every movie. We have all noticed how you come up with elitist tropes and covers to hide your inherent misogyny and classism - "Using tamil names for villains", "Casting them as North Madras inhabitants", "Dialogues like en kanna pottai aaku, ilana nee potta, shit shit ndriye adhu enna unga amma pera", and now this short film where you normalize the usage of the word bitch from the mouth of your female character itself.

    Apart from viewing the film from the perspectives of Karthik and Jersy, one should see the
    movie from Jersi’s husband also. Marriage is a commitment, and if you do not honor that commitment, you are a cheat. Marriage is meaningless unless there is total honesty between a husband and wife. So if Jersy is loyal to her husband, she should reveal the whole conversation to her husband. I think that most of the Indian husbands would be emotionally disturbed to hear suck kind of dialogue between his wife and another man. Jersy was right in making that conversation with Karthik only if she knows for sure that she will reveal the whole conversation to her husband, and his husband would find nothing wrong in it. Otherwise, she is guilty of infidelity. The right or wrong of an act depends on how it affects the other persons. Once you are outside any marriage, you are a free bird, but once you are committed to a marriage contract, there must be 100% transparency between the husband and wife. As far as Karthik is concerned, one cannot justify his talking in that manner to another man’s wife on any ground. Will he take kindly to his wife talking to another man in that way? A hyper-emotive husband will even go to the extent of murdering the man who spoke to his wife that way.

    • @spasokan
      @spasokan 4 года назад

      @Dragon Fist I am happy that though the film doesn’t show explicitly, you could draw the inference that Jersey would reveal the whole conversation to her husband, and he, in turn, would appreciate her. I also wish so. You have advised me, “No need for u to explain to anyone what marriage and commitment is.” There is no need for you since you know it already. But there may be others who may need it.
