I have mine set up with an effects loop by running the line out to the looper and back from the looper into the aux port (requires a mini cable plug). Turn down the guitar knob when you do the loop if you get feedback, and then turn it back up when the loop is playing. The aux runs into the power amp separately from the amp's effects, so you can then use different effects for the next loop or for playing lead. (A trick I learned from RUclipsr Kevin Ilsen - thank you Kevin!) If your looper has a mic input (RC-300, RC-500 or others), you then have mic in, too. The same trick allows you to choose to put pedals in front or behind the amp's effects. All this, and it can run for a good long while on battery power. Wow.
@@mikaelbodin9178 I don't think so, not unless you have a splitter of some kind. I just tried to figure out how to do it with my equipment, and couldn't. The problem is that the signal chain would go like this: guitar into the amp through the main input; sound out through the phones port to the looper; sound back in through the Aux input port. The amp is now silent, because plugging into the phones port kills the sound from the amp. You have sound running in a loop via the wires, great, but you can't hear it. If your looper has a second line out (or possibly a second line in, too?), or if you have another way to split the signal, then this could work--run that line to headphones or another amp. But the loopers I own won't do this and I don't have a signal splitter. Or you could use a microphone instead of sending sound out of the phones port! You need that additional line out somehow, so if it's not on the amp, it needs to be somewhere else. And I think you'd also be at risk of feedback issues. Doesn't seem like a practical solution--by the time you got extra equipment and a mess of wires, you'd be better off just buying an amp with a line out.
I want to use a HX Stomp (amp+cab + stereo effects) and plug it to THR30ii aux in. Do you think I'l get a good sound? Or do you think that is preferable to give up the stereo from HX Stomp and plug it in front of the TRH30ii with flat option? Thanks
Also, something that people don’t really talk as much is how good the onboard effects are. The chorus and tremolo are incredible and the phaser and delay are some of the best I have ever heard. Literally studio quality effects. Using a wireless foot switch to turn them on and off I have found myself only needing a boost/od and wah to have everything I need pretty much.
You're definitely right about that, Yamaha has some of the best effects in the biz and I definitely think they brought that to the THR. Thanks for sharing your experience!
@Glenvill_e Sorry for the late response to you but there's no rotary effect. Phase, flange, chorus, trem all on the same effect channel (can't have more than 1 at once.), Tape and digital echo as a separate effect. Hall, room, plate and spring reverb as another effect channel. Compressor channel and Gate channel each individually.
It sure does! I love my thr. I could honestly state its the best piece of gear I have bought, ever. I have been playing guitar - a lot- more since buying it. It sounds so hi-fi.
I use TWO THRs in order to hear stereo with my Strymons, etc. When you have BOTH THRs…on either side of you…and you send your left and rights from your stereo Strymon chain? Holy crap. Its MAGICAL. If you need cabinet sims? Use an Iridium…and/or add the cabs via the THR app. Also worth adding… It is NOT a problem to send power directly into the input 1/4” on the THR! I’ve been doing it without worry for over a year on two THRii30 wireless units…and its stunningly good.
I’m doing this with my pedalboard and running the strymon iridium into the flat response mode on the thr. I use the reverbs and delays on thr too. Well handy if you want complete wireless rig that runs off battery. The strymon iridium has one of the best modelling sounds going I think
Thank you for this very special work with the THR30 in conjunction with sound pedals. The result in this combination produces great sounds. The THR 30 is easy to use and has great own sounds and is in no way inferior to many great sound machines. Thanks Drew Creal for this great video !!!

Great video. When you were showing house you hooked everything up, you mentioned that you are running two cables out of the back of the amp and into the interface. What is the interface? I’m confused about that. Thanks.
Hi Drew great video if I was trying to get more of a blues tube tone (aka Beano, peter green, freddie king) type drive out of this amp what pedals would you recommend ? have you ever tried a tube type drive pedal through this amp ? Thanks for your help
I am confused. All THR amps are just that amps, they have modeling but are like any other guitar amp otherwise. I have the THR10c and use effects from both my HX Stomp and other pedals into it while using the THR amps. If I want to use an amp/cab (IR) from the stomp then I use the Flat option on the THR with all effects off on the amp itself, still using my other effects. I also play bass and have done the same, both direct and through the stomp, sounds great either way. These amps are super versital, sound great, and so far have handled anything I've thrown at it.
Hi there ! Great review. ! Question is it possible to connect your guitar wireless to some effect pedals and these effect pedals then connect (wireless or by cable) to the yamaha 30II wireless speaker ? Or is it better to add the effect pedals after the speaker ? What would be a good solution ?
I've tried running a few analog pedals through it, I first tried it with the flat setting like you have, but you kinda need the speaker simulation. So for a Marshall type distortion pedal, I tried it on the classic clean. It does the job, but doesn't sound as good as when its in front of a tube amp. The fuzz pedal was kind of fun, but again you need to run it on the flat or clean setting and it still sounds better through a regular amp. With all the tones the THR has to offer, I probably wouldn't use pedals with it. The delay on the unit could be improved a bit, but its certainly usable. This video is kind of like plugging another amp simulator and digital tone into a digital amp, so anyone with analog pedals, you can try and it will work, but not the same, at least for my ear.
Hey dude, quick question! I'm a pedal noob, my amp (yamaha thr30ii) has built in wireless and I use a line 6 g10 wireless so that I can play without a cable. Of course, this means I have no pedals between the guitar and the amp. My question - Could I use a pitch shift pedal in the 'Line out' section of the amp? Or does this only work if you plug it between the guitar and the amp in the chain?
@@DrewCreal Tx for your reply. I've purchased a THR10II in the mean time and indeed I'm successfully running a Boss RC-10R looper into it to get some rhythm during practising (no complicated headphone/Aux construction, just in my guitar signal chain). The OC-5 will follow soon, but first I'm picking up a TC electronic plethora x5 for effects pre-looper.
i have a question: so if i had say, a wah pedal, and I wanted to use the line 6 g10t with THR10II wireless, how can I do that? would it be as simple as just plugging it in at the front (i doubt that)? I'm asking this because I'm pondering which model of thr ii to buy; if i can't use a pedal while using the g10t transmitter then why would i get a wireless model?
1. Yes, you would just plug the wah in at the beginning of the signal chain. 2. You would get a wireless model or the THR30 because you may not always want to use pedals with your THR, you may actually want to just plug straight in, which the THR really excells at. Plus, it adds a lot of convenience and ease of use to have wireless.
Yep, just save the THR amp tone you made with the pedal you connected and save it to one of the 5 banks on the THR. Just remember to use the same pedal settings if you found a tone that you love. Hope that helps!
I think 1 if I use the flat channel, I think I need some pedal to contain pre amp simulator, power amp simulator, and cab simulator, Yamaha is just a speaker? So why not connect the Headphone jack on line6 and the aux-in jack on Yamaha? 2 In the end, You give advice that, don't put pedals before Yamaha without pre amp simulator, power amp simulator, and cab simulator, if we use some pedal like distortion, the signal will damage Yamaha, right?
1. You could definitely use the THR Amp like this, just as a loudspeaker for your pre-amp simulator. These amps are like Swiss Army Knives, there's a little bit for everybody here. 2. I would be cautious to not drive the front end of the amp too hard with an overdrive pedal, too hot of a signal could damage the amp. That's just my suspicious though. Cheers and thanks for watching!
