I remember my first time in the states trying out Starbucks. I was so disappointed and quickly realized people just wanted to drink sugar instead of coffee. I keep trying to convince my friends that local shops are way better than the crap they serve us there.
Local shops are always better. 😊 I only started going to Starbucks because my local shop shut down and it was the only place I could get a London Fog! There are a few other drinks I've branched out to, but coffee isn't one of them still, lol. I hate coffee to begin with, but theirs smells weird and burnt.
You realize that you can customize literally anything you order at SB? If you think you're drinking raw sugar.. maybe.. I dunno, reduce the sugar? Like what? Also "burnt" only applies to the Brewed coffee. If you think the espresso tastes burnt, then try Blonde roast. Try a ristretto shot. People just complain about coffee and act like SB only offers one option. Maybe bother learning about coffee before drinking coffee so you know what to get?
The problem with starbux is that they over-roast their beans, which carbonizes them. For drip coffee, this means I cannot drink this. But their espresso roast is actually awesome. I haven't found anything that beats it, unless I'm economy shopping.
I’m not a coffee drinker either but Starbucks has always replaced it with hot chocolate. If you wanna do it at home like Josh does, Criu (or some similar spelling) brews just like coffee and has different cocoa beans as well!
omg thank you for using the coffee beans from nicaragua its nice to see others love our coffee! i never had better tasting coffe than when im back home
When I worked at Starbs my favorite thing to do was make a small vanilla bean frap using half and half instead of whole milk to make it more like ice cream, and I’d blend it only half way so that there were still chunky gritty pieces of ice in it (personal preference, I like crunching on ice lol) then I’d dump it into a grand cup and pour two shots of espresso on top. Good god I loved that drink.
For me, when it comes to frappuccino's, it really depends on how well the coffee is. If it's just a cheap mass produced coffee, I want more of the sweetness to where it's more like a milkshake. However, if the coffee already has a real nice flavor to it, the frappuccino should be a nice mix. Kinda hard to explain though.
Basically what I think you’re saying is that if the coffee itself is a super good flavor, you don’t want the rest of the flavors to mask or overpower it bc it’s so good on its own but if it’s a cheap or not as good coffee; then you prefer for there to be more sweetness and “flavor changing” surups
@@charlesgantz5865 McDonalds mocha frappes used to actually be good, they used to taste like a real blend of mocha coffee. Now they taste like spoiled chocolate milk. Or like as if chocolate milk wasn’t made all that right

Just make cold brew, its very easy. Just take any container of water and drop in the grounds then put it in the fridge and wait a day, then filter out the grounds when you're ready to drink it. You can pretty easily find online the ratios of coffee grounds/water. They also have relatively cheap brewing containers so you don't need to filter it, but that is optional.
Pink drinks are my go to for starbies. I typically get mine with cold-foam and strawberry puree mixed together to create a sweet/sour combo that I personally really enjoy. Though I can see why people aren't a fan. Thanks a bunch for this recipe! Much cheaper to recreate!

I tried making my own pink drink using açaí berry juice instead of the tea juice blend josh used, always thought that’s what Starbucks used. Very tasty and with coconut milk just 2 ingredients.
I work at Starbucks and looked at the ingredients on the strawberry açai base and it’s literally just white grape juice with Color and “natural flavour” so that’s why he couldn’t recreate it
I used to work at Starbucks. You can achieve a similar flavor profile with white strawberry juice and white grape juice. You'll just be missing the acai
@@OG_ghoulish yeah exactly! All the refreshers are grape juice. Only the strawberry acai and the kiwi are dyed though, it’s the freeze dried fruit that colours the dragon fruit and berry berry.
Fun fact, there is coffee in the frappuccinos, but you can in fact order them specifically without, you just have to specify. They put a coffee roast in them, but it is definitely not as caffeinated as other coffees. If you want them to actually taste more like coffee, you can get an espresso frappuccino. Also thee base sbux used to make the frappuccinos are sooo sugary! Love your vids dude. I'm just a passionate coffee lover over here.
If Joshua Weissman worked at Starbucks: Person: can I have a coffee? Joshua: sure, that’s gonna take 3 days to roast the beans, another 3 hours to fully make sure every flavour is perfect and 20 minutes to blend to the perfect viscosity.

That's really the only reason why I go to Starbucks. I asked my coworker if she wanted something from Starbucks and she told me that she didn't like their Fraps because they were so sweet. I said that's why I customize my drink and she looked at me like I had 2 heads. She had no idea that you could customize the drink. I opened my starbucks app and we went through all the Fraps and the customizing options ... she ended up loving it so much I had to write down the order for her so she could order it when we weren't together.

@@chukyuniqul That's a sign the coffee itself used is bad. Starbucks uses really shit coffee and just covers it up with sweetness - as do many instant flavoured coffees. So you might get that association between sweet coffees (which try to cover up bad flavours but fail at aftertaste) vs less sweetened (which let the coffee's own flavours shine through better) Their source is over-roasted very bitter (burnt) robusta beans that have lost all its organic (aromatic) compounds that normally produce the nice flavour notes. Coffee flavour intensified, but tastes worse. Most people don't taste the difference enough to mind, but some people do taste it enough that it's just disgusting to them.
@@trisomy2165 Yeah I suspected the bad coffee thing. Also I refuse to drink from starbucks on principle. @@swallow6630 Starbucks is just known for using crappy mass produced cheap over-roasted robusta (the worser kind, compared to the other widespread type - arabica) coffee. It's one of the reasons they have had significant failures in the one of the coffee capitals of the world - Australia (Melbourne more specifically though). Most Americans don't taste it (because its easy to just cover up the flavour and also because Americans have probably gotten somewhat used to it over the years (I'm assuming?)), and they use better coffees in other locations like Japan or Hong Kong. In Australia, and places like Melbourne, there is at least a cafe on every single major street, with many streets having multiple. There is huge competition and for a franchising company like starbucks, there was absolutely no comparison because their coffee was so much worse (as well as service - completely missing the local coffee culture). The common person could tell day and night the differences. But they charged even higher prices than the local cafes despite an inferior product. Pretty much all reputable coffee youtube channels based in America will at some point cover starbucks coffee, and they make the differences very clear, although no specific video comes to mind immediately. (e.g. James Hoffman) If you want to read up more on this, here are pages and pages of google results answering the question for why starbucks is bad: www.google.com/search?sxsrf=ALeKk01dPnxj6yV4xMwAy7z-5laE77C7AA%3A1604922808873&ei=uC2pX6LmNOGI4-EPivm4eA&q=starbucks+coffee+bad If you want a source for the food science behind coffee: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3140933/ Assumed unstated knowledge: the bulk of coffee (glycolipids, lipids, glycoproteins, saccharides, etc) are considered organic compounds. Many of these compounds undergo reactions to become "aromatic" compounds containing benzenes or benzene-like structures (the hexagon with alternating double bonds), which provide most of the rich coffee aromas and tastes. Essentially, they become other compounds and as the roasting continues, into very bitter late-stage reaction products.
I worked as a barista. We sourced our beans from specific frames ethically. We roasted in-house (back of house). We stored the beans to use later. Then made the espresso. When people came in and asked for their Starbucks order we'd tell them we could make something 'similar' but we aren't Starbucks. Most people rolled their eyes and said fine. Some stormed out and went over 3 blocks to a Starbucks. The people who liked coffee liked our drinks. People who liked sugar and milk were annoyed, some said they were amazed our coffee wasn't super bitter. Good espresso tastes smooth and velvety. It's aromatic, can have chocolate or floral notes, and tastes a little sweet. The beans make it.
@@MikassaAckermann I’d say that I enjoy making the drinks a lot and connecting with most customers. I’m at a higher volume store now, I’ve transferred from a little bit of a slower store but much cleaner of a store. The store I have now I’m having troubles with mainly because it’s been 2 years with Starbucks and they understaff us a lot so we end up with partners who aren’t trained properly and a high turnover rate. In only two years I’ve already seen how Starbucks is slowly just becoming just... not the best place to go. I would suggest applying to a local cafe and shop local instead of going to Starbucks. There’s a lot to it and it can be stressful but if you apply and end up in a great store, I’m sure you will have an amazing experience like I did at my last store. Every store has its struggles. Mine went without a manager for months and the shift supervisors had to take on the manager work without being paid for it. It can definitely be hard at time. The main reason I’m thinking about quitting right now is because the sanitizer and soap solutions they use at Starbucks have caused a case of really bad eczema on my hands and I feel like I can’t do much anymore. I love to be clean especially at work but the people at my store don’t like to be organized and clean. I can’t do it all myself esp when my hands are bloody, cracking, blistering and just hurting a lot in general and lately I feel like I can’t do my self care routines because my hand can’t be in water or touch many chemicals. I’ve spent too much money trying to find a good solution to this. I just got a new lotion that seems to be working and while I work I’ve been using a gentle face wash that will protect the moisture barrier of my skin. Sorry for the rant. I’m hopefully going to find a new job or transfer stores. The job search has been a bit hard though :/. A lot of people do have fun working at Starbucks but just beware that you can get burnt out quickly. It mostly depends on your manager, your team, and your district manager.

Local shops are always better. 😊 I only started going to Starbucks because my local shop shut down and it was the only place I could get a London Fog! @@purplegr3mlin it tastes weird and burnt, too. Probably why they have to add all the sugar. xD

Me:*drinks normal coffee* This is so bitter, how could anyone start a day like this without gagging
I like that in coffee though. Particularly because sweetened it leaves a terrible aftertaste, like a bitter film around my mouth .
@@chukyuniqul That's a sign the coffee itself used is bad. Starbucks uses really shit coffee and just covers it up with sweetness - as do many instant flavoured coffees. So you might get that association between sweet coffees (which try to cover up bad flavours but fail at aftertaste) vs less sweetened (which let the coffee's own flavours shine through better)
Their source is over-roasted very bitter (burnt) robusta beans that have lost all its organic (aromatic) compounds that normally produce the nice flavour notes.
@@trisomy2165how did you know that?
(e.g. James Hoffman)
If you want to read up more on this, here are pages and pages of google results answering the question for why starbucks is bad: www.google.com/search?sxsrf=ALeKk01dPnxj6yV4xMwAy7z-5laE77C7AA%3A1604922808873&ei=uC2pX6LmNOGI4-EPivm4eA&q=starbucks+coffee+bad
If you want a source for the food science behind coffee: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3140933/ Assumed unstated knowledge: the bulk of coffee (glycolipids, lipids, glycoproteins, saccharides, etc) are considered organic compounds.

@@idbefamousifiwere3 pls tell me your joking 😀
I just get Starbucks to cause its easy to get anywhere, but if I'm at home, I make it myself. Great job remaking these !!
“I don’t want to have a bad attitude” proceeds to have a bad attitude. Lol.
yeah lowkey it’s pretty hard to watch his videos sometimes. I know he’s used to good food or whatever but it’s kinda rough to hear him diss stuff most of us eat 💀

@liquid sword i know, it’s just like why complain so much about it? he already started complaining that he didn’t even want to do this in the first place, and then he started on about how awful the drinks are. most people can’t exactly go out and buy an espresso machine to get a “better quality” drink. idk it’s fine to have a preference, but that was a lot.
@@nemo2658 Lol, it was funny... How the fuck are you so effected by a person not liking something you like?
@@nemo2658 Lol, take a chill pill bro, he clearly played it up for a laugh, you don't have to get butthurt over it...
as an ex-Starbucks barista, I literally also hate frappuccinos and any kinda of pink/violet drink. I do like cold brew tho lol
I worked in the Barnes and Noble Cafe on campus and on game days it was nothing but Frappuccinos. People would be like "I ordered a Mocha Frap like 10 minutes ago? Where is it? " and I'm like yeah you and everyone else also staring me...
I'm a Starbucks and I liked frappuccino until I can to make them......
josh on literally every but better:
well i didn’t actually want to do this but y’all asked for it
Holy heck, man! You've really come up!! 7 mil? Well deserved! Awesome videos
Episode summary:
Josh tries (insert product)
Josh says (insert product) is “terrible ew get out of here stoopid!”
Josh makes boujee version of (insert product)
Josh engages in baby talk
Josh does pointless taste test
Josh determines winner
(Winner is always josh)
Which makes sense because it’s not fast food, it’s incomparable
Yeah pretty much. It's not like he's not going to win because he's using fresh and expensive things. Popeye's and taco bell are about quantity not quality. This episode is kinda refreshing though. He couldn't make the pink drink work and someone chose Starbucks over his.
Starbucks actually won twice. The non coffee drinker chose the Starbucks frappucino, then the coffee drinker chose the Starbucks nitro coldbrew
Don’t forget complains about making these the whole episode! LoL
@@chancephillips5411 the second one doesn't count because he intentionally tried to fool him. So no.
Instructions unclear.
I hired someone named TJ and "accidentally" splashed searing hot caramel on them.
Now TJ has a lawyer on the phone while we "wait for an ambulance", and is saying that they're owed much more than the $10 we agreed to. TJ's also going on about "medical expenses" and "assault charges" or something. I'm not really paying attention, I have to order a "heat-proof container" before my caramel cools down. I tried to explain that it was for the flavor, but TJ still doesn't understand.
Do I add more searing hot caramel?
I can't- 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I'm wheezing 😂
Yes obviously 🙄
there is never enough caramel my friend
I might look dumb but what does it mean
Fay Mariel Miranda a joke abt him getting sued
We actually don’t use cold brew to make the fraps. We use “frap roast”. Which is literally like an instant coffee concentrate. Although I think cold brew wouldn’t be a bad idea hmm
Literally every cafeteria Ive work at they use cold brew for the cold drinks.
@@ericktellez7632 nah. Maybe at other cafes. But at Starbucks they use an iced coffee concentrate
Back in the mid 90s before Starbucks was all the rage everywhere. We owned a coffee shop and pretty much got all of our drink recipes from a guy who worked at starbucks or another coffee shop in Seattle. We made all of our drinks with fresh espresso.
@@kameljoe21 oh well that makes sense then. Our recipes and standards at Starbucks change all the time. However, I currently work at Starbucks and we don’t use espresso or cold brew unless specifically asked for.
@@kiraveil8115 Whe Starbucks bought the name and ideas there were only two flavors called Coffee and Mocha. They were made from ice double-strength brewed Italian Roast coffee brewed in stores. This was around the mid 90s when we were selling similar type of drinks. The Frappuccino was invented by the Coffee Connection another large group of shops. Which Starbucks bought out for their stores and the trademark name Frappuccino. The oringal Frappuccino was made with a slushy type machine and then a soft serve ice cream machine and then how we and Starbucks used a blender. Even before Starbucks took over the blended drink game there were huge amounts of coffee shops that made up their own things. We got these ideas from a kid who worked at one of these shops or Starbucks around 1994.
Love the authenticity of your friends’ reactions. I still think yours might taste better!
It’s the “papa love you” for me haha
The salted caramel frappuccino is yummy, thanks Josh! I made it without the xantham gum and it turned out fine (maybe I did something wrong hahaha). Thanks for the recipe! Love your channel
@@tonilynnp you might be using too much, you only need a tiny amount. like for the amount of frappuchino he made, you need like 1/8 of a teaspoon
xantham gum is just for consistency taste should be uneffected!
YESSS, HE KNEW ABOUT THE GUM, I'm a barista at a local cafe and I was waiting for it. Knew that you wouldn't disappoint 👌
This is my favorite channel so far
My man bought a coffee roaster that RUclips money really but huh
He probably has a room full of kitchen equipment that he's tried out at various times.
It'd be cool if he gave whatever he doesn't regularly use away for Christmas or something.
Josh’s struggle with this really made me laugh 😆 he’s too high quality
Ngl I didn't read the word 'quality' and was just like, yep
