You are a gem. I live in the suburbs of New Orleans. No wilderness. Small lot. Back in 2020 I started storing. That has dwindled to paper products. If I grow anything in my backyard, it will be taken. If (when) the grid goes down I’m going to die of heat stroke anyway. God can have me. But he needs the holy young like you! You will be a leader in the era, God willing.

Zero heat tolerance. I’m 65 and for the last 33 years I have been waiting for menopause and hot flashes to end. My priest, who watches me sweat every week, has been warned that my husband will show up at the rectory with a box of dust one day. Please take him seriously.
If it ever came to it I would want to ride it out with Father…..I’ll bring the beans and he provides the food for my soul…..this is exactly the solid clergyman we need in our church…..I’m worried about some of the foolishness happening in big Church today but always enjoy being evangelized by Fr. Goring…..thanks and peace all….

Father, most people hammer at least three big nails into the top surface of the log to set the pan on. If it is not level, it makes things less convenient. Like the stove in your home in the city. You are a priest not afraid of a little work. That is good. Many priests are pansies and expect others to serve them. Praise be Jesus Christ.

I am old and frail and I am not 100% and I can’t really survive by myself.
I could have help of course. But I lived in the 50s when we had fallout shelters back in the day.
I didn’t have one but my feeling for all these years is God is in control and we can do what we can do--but if it’s our expiration date on one day then it is!!
Something else will get me if that doesn’t.
That’s how I think about it.
But I love love love watching your videos. 🙏👍🧡🔥
And I think if I was a young mom again with a bunch of kids, I would do some of this stuff, but I’m not in control only God really is.

Very good! We all need to store up a years worth, or at least 90 days. Lara and I are doing the same. I've done this for years, because I had visions when I was in my early 20s. I'm really glad Father Mark is putting these kind of videos up.

@@DogtownTradingCo My sister said she was going to start buying water. She is going to get a little at a time. She said she didn't want to be obvious in her purchases. Although most people would think we were crazy! My mother always kept a stockpile of food. I think it came from living through the Depression and the war. She would always buy a few cans of coffee when it went on sale. That was her big weakness. I think there may have been a shortage - especially during the war - so she always had MANY cans stored away. It got to the point where my dad started numbering the cans and begging her to stop buying coffee! 😅🙏❤
@@mariapepper6175very good. Most people will think you're nuts, until something happens, and then they're all knocking at your door, expecting you to feed them too. Stay low profile and don't tell the world what your doing.
Coffee and chocolate during World War 2 was like owning gold. They had ration cards with monthly quotas on what you could buy. People bartered for things amongst themselves. Rough times.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, nourish our souls, transform our minds and heal our bodies, and grant us the material needs to keep going. Bring those souls who have left this world quickly home to you, and oh, make more saints known to us. Do you know that if you soak your beans overnight it speeds up the cooking process and they get more tender.

I've never had any success cooking beans without soaking. Just inedible. Like a rock. Must be different for different types 🤔

I especially love your nature videos Fr. Mark. I just bought a rocket stove with 3 cook tops. The price of propane keeps going up, so I thought it would be nice to have a free alternative to cook on. Now when I use the rocket stove I will meditate on keeping the fire in my heart for our Lord burning in the same way. I had never thought of that before. Thank you and God Bless you Fr. Mark.

Father, make sure you store the rice and beans correctly. You can leave on the freezer for 3 days to kill any bug, wait couple of days to make sure is dry and get either some oxigen absorbers or vacuum seal them and put some food grade desiccant and you will store for years to come.

A good trick is to loosely fill the inside with birch bark. & if no blocks for a base; drill an air hole or 2 through sides , near base,
(FYI- a 1" - "Scotch Eye Auger" is a great bush drill for that; + making wood 🪵 furniture/ crafts)
- then light it (from top, or bottom) ; add sticks after bark is burning well. 🔥 👍 God Bless you & Greg Ovens, eh! I hope he can watch your videos!

Great video and advice Father! I tell family members to pray and stay stocked up Re rice. From what I read jasmine and basmati rice are best for long term storage. Whether you're in church or at camp you always give good advice. God bless and keep the vids coming.

Just want you to consider getting a bucket of canned vegetables and fruits, and meats to go along with your beans and rice. Appetite fatigue is a real issue in times of scarcity.
