You could do that but that would create a larger margin for error. Some dummy would accidentally auto loot the boss despite what the GM says to do. Then somebody who can't even use the loot would have a dagger they don't need. At least in the present scenario it went to someone that could use it as an upgrade. It sucks though and could of happened to anyone.
