    I remember when this was produced in black plastic.👍👍

      So do I, all the RAF night bombers were moulded in black.

      Me too and one of the crew figures was an absolute waste of plastic as it was so poorly moulded

      @simongee8928 Год назад +1

      Indeed. And at the time, most of the single and twin engined Airfix WW2 aircraft were in a shiny mid grey plastic.

    My Dad went over from Sydney, Australia, and flew in these over Europe. The Waving man is the Flight Engineer at his panels stationed behind the Pilot. He has a folding chair next to the pilot to assist in take off/landings. The Radio/Radar operator (my Dad) is seated under the Pilot and the seated guy forward of him is the Navigator. The Navigator and Bomb Aimer are the same person and there was no front gunner after the deletion of the forward turret so maybe one jelly baby is s an extra option of sitting or prone position for the Navigator/Bomb Aimer?
    I built this (in black) in the early 70's. (It is 1 year older than me!) I had built a few Matchbox models by this stage and remember having difficulty building the Airfix Halifax as it was a bit clunkier than a Matchbox model but better than Frog. I have never built the Matchbox Halifax.
    The panels inside the wheel wells/nacelles hold in the undercarriage doors which are then operable and the undercarriage is designed to be retractable. The front swivels and the rear support fits into moulded "U"s in the nacelles to stay extended. Hence you could take off, retract your undercarriage, bomb the enemy in the backyard sand pit, return to base, deploy undercarriage and land. Lots of kits from back then had "playability" as a sales point.
    The newish Revell B-III is very nice.
    Cheers

      @ Matterus = First off, fascinating post mate - I'll post a FLICKR link of MY Matchbox Halifax further below
      Meantime, as your Dad was an RAAF Bomber crew-member, I'll guess you'd be FASCINATED by this one....
      RAAF 466 Sqdn, Handley Page Halifax B.III nicknamed Waltzing Matilda,serial NR.169, G-AGXA, VH-BDT (civil)
      It's pilot bought her outright (surplus) Post-War. Then astoundingly, flew her out to Australia (civil register)
      To say HER story is amazing & mindblowing, is an understatement !!!!!!!!!
      She was built by 'English Electric' (same company as the F.3/F.6 Lightnings & "Deltic" diesel makers)
      I did make a HUGE page article about "her"a few years ago, but the website req's membership (alas)
      There ARE a few clips about her over on You Tube & the 'net in general, but some sites are sadly 'weak'
      Meantime, here's My Matchbox Halifax flic.kr/p/24MT8w6
      I built it straight out of it's original M/box packaging, changing only the codes to make as RCAF 428.Sqdn
      Didn't bother with any weathering, because I was working full time & had kids. Didn't wanna risk spoiling it
      However, it DOES go to show that it goes together really well & makes up as a GOOD & really decent kit.
      I think the old ANCIENT AIRFIX HALIFAX B.III (thread subject) is REALLY showing it's age & needs retiring
      .

      @@hawnyfox3411 Cheers. Nice looking model. Dad was 466, at Driffield I think. I'm still amazed that no original Halifaxes were kept/saved. The Waltzing Matilda story looks interesting, I'll investigate more. Just getting back into modelling again due to the same problem as you , kids, home and full time work. Revell mucked up the inline engines but redeemed themselves on the radials. Ditto on the Airfix kit! I'd like to get the Matchbox kit but unless there's one in Oz the postage costs x3 more than the kit! 😀

    Halifax carried a crew of 7. The bloke standing up looking aft was the Flight Engineer. The chap up the very front lying prone is the Bomb Aimer and the bloke immediately behind him up against the fuselage wall is the Navigator.

    Приятственная моделька!Подвижные элероны,рули направления...совсем неплохо...а для 70- х годов ...так вообще зачет.Лайк.

    It is the radio operator that was a waste of time. The really early instuctions always said "locate and cement part 1 to part 2........". The early paints also M for matt and G for gloss

    My goodness this is old. I had one of these (black plastic of course) - 55 years maybe?

  • @michaelcampin1464
    @michaelcampin1464 Год назад +1

    The aircraft was designed by Sir Barnes Wallis and was based on a geometric design. I remember making this kit probably back in 1971. The man waving is the radio operator and can be disposed of as you never see him once the kit is built

    The Halifax would have the Navigator seated in the nose (the dude sitting behind the bomb aimer) with the dude standing in the back of the cockpit being the radio operator
