I've been a Bonnie Raitt fan since the 70s. I sang in bands and acoustic gigs. I always sang "Angel From Montgomery" . I have the lyrics in caligraphy with her autograph. I've seen her live 5 times. When she finally won a Grammy, I was cheering!! Her Dad was a Broadway Show singer, I think in the 50's. She started a Foundation for original Southern Blues Artists. They never received much for their incredible contributions to music. Twice she brought blues artists on tour! Sippie Wallace and Buddy Guy. She's played with all of the great blues artists. Two of my FAVS "Under The Falling Sky" written by Jackson Browne and "Been Too Long At The Fair". Happy listening from a music junkie 😊
This is a John Prine song that Bonnie covered. There is also a duet with John and her singing this song. Bonnie is a great singer but she is also one of the world's best slide guitar (blues) players. She can really rock and she can play and sing. I saw her in 1979 and she was amazing live. She also won the best song Grammy this year for "Just Like That" a wonderful song that she dedicated to Mr. Prine.
Her "I Can't Make You Love Me If You Don't" is absolutely stunning and won song of the year! That song shows her greatness.
John Prine and Iris Dement 😂😂
In spite of ourselves 😜😂
Laugh and Smile 😊👏👏✌️❤️
John Prine…. Bonnie Raitt…. both such LEGENDS!!!!👊🏻🥰♥️
A true voice is a genuinely authentic voice. Bonnie Raitt is an inspiration and influence to both men and WOmen.
She is a lover of blues music and you can really hear it in her vocals.
She's a famous blues player. Champions artists in the field. Has had a stellar career since the early 70's. Won the Grammy for best song this year. In her 70's. It's called Just Like That and it'll absolutely get you in all the feels
Check out Love Me Like a Man (live 1993)
Wow! The iconic Bonnie Raitt singing a song by John Prine, one of the greatest songwriters of the last half century. It doesn't get much better than that. Maddy, if you're too young to be familiar with John Prine, I hope you'll check him out because he's definitely worth knowing. Of the hundreds of songs he's written and sung, my favorites are his performance of "Sam Stone" (it may make you cry) and his duet with Iris DeMent called "In Spite of Ourselves" (it'll make you laugh). If you decide to check out the latter, be sure to watch their performance at the Sessions at West 54th Street because there is a good story that goes with the song. Thank you for another great reaction!
She is a blues singer but is covering a song by a folk artist
I always considered her rock first, embracing folk, and that twang in her voice gives a nod to country. Rock music was much more diverse then, going in a lot of different directions. It was all good music. I always loved Bonnie for her smooth, sultry voice.
Love Bonnie. SMOOOOTH AS SMOOOOTH CAN GET WITH TALENT AND LOOKS❤❤❤❤❤
One of the most underappreciated artists. Great voice, Great presence, and great guitarist. True musician
Check out Runaway. More of her rocker side
Emphasis: John Prine song. Listen to his version. He loved singing it with Bonnie and other female vocalists No one, no one writes a song that can tell a story with song like John Prine.
There's so many songs of Bonnie's to choose from. Suggest maybe:
Sugar Mama
Give it up or Let Me Go - early Bonnie
Nick of Time - Grammy winning
Thing Called Love - fun to watch Dennis Quade in the video
Something to Talk About - great song with Bonnie's slide guitar
The first time I saw BR in concert, her opening act was Tom Waits, who's an interesting singer/songwriter to get into. A poet for the common folk with a voice that sounds like he gargles with sandpaper. Don't let that turn you off ......his voice is true to his words & music.
Tango til They're Sore is one of my favorite songs
The great Bonnie Raitt covering a song by the even greater John Prine!!
Thank You Maddy! It's old Country
- Western, Folk and Blues... Love your reaction. ❣️❣️❣️😂
Song written by the late great John Prine. Bonnie met him in the 70's, so long before Sheryl Crow. Probably vice versa. Raiit sang this song at the Grammys where John Prine received a lifetime achievement award. Unfortunately he died of Covid 3 weeks later
Bonnie is legendary -- one of only a few people to be listed on Rolling Stone's Top 100 Vocalists and Top 100 Guitarists. "I Can't Make You Love Me" will tear your heart out. "Give It Up" or "You Gotta Know How" will make you chortle all night. This is what music is for.
“Let’s Give ‘Em Something To Talk About” is a great one too!
Montana, saw Bonnie in concert 3 weeks ago, she was awesome
Was very lucky to see her and her band where they taped "Austin City Limits" recordings...just wonderful!
oh oh! Listen to her live version (1993, maybe?) of "Love Me Like a Man" -- showcases her guitar playing, and you can see how her interpretations of her songs have grown and deepened as she's done more living
Great reaction. John Prine wrote it and Bonnie Raitt owns it.
Oh cool!
The was the song my wife and I had our 1st dance to as a married couple.
Awww!!! So sweet!
I have loved Bonnie for as long as I can remember. I do have a favorite song from her. It's the Calypso inspired "Wha She Go Do?"
Bonnie Raitt is amazing vocalist and John Prine, who wrote this song, is an incredible songwriter. You should check out John Prine's songs Illegal Smile and Sam Stone. 🙌✌️
Tennessee Waltz by
Norah Jones and Bonnie Raitt 👏👏🥰❤️ great Duet ... Give it a Listen 🎧😉✌️
She's a legend. Thank you for reacting to this song I've always loved Bonnie I believe she inspired many artists of this era.
Bonnie would probably fall into the Americana heading, a mixtue of folk, blues, country and pop. A lot of great underheard singers in that genre -- Bonnie, Lucinda Williams, Kim Richey, Jonell Mosser, to name a few.
Amazing talent. One of the best covers ever. You should react to the guy who wrote the song called John Prine.
Bonnie took this song from her friend John Prine and made it her own. You'll find a few Bonnie/John duets of this. John's original version is still my favourite although most people think she wrote it. Your reaction failed to really address the lyrical content. The words are what make this song one of her/john's most beloved works -- the universal theme of aging, isolation, loneliness etc. There is sort of a companion song by John Prine called Hello in There. Well worth checking out.
Purely magical version. As a writer, I find any combination of brilliant songwriter (Prine) plus gifted song interpreter to be unbeatable. Bonnie's vocal just pierces my heart.
Saw her back in 70s great slide player was not really big back then. Have a look at Supertramp song School you will be completely surprised just for your info I’m from uk
If you want hear the blues come of that voice you need to hear "Guilty" from her album in 1973
LOVE BONNIE AND ALL HER MUSIC. She does a lot of blues too
Good one, Maddy! Looking forward to this one. Bonnie does a great job with it. Hope you get a chance to hear John Prine (the song writer) do one of his own songs too sometime, like Hello In There or Sam Stone. More good stuff. 🙂
Not to forget flag decal
I'm a big John Prine fan. But I found out about him by watching Bonnie and him do this song.
She is so under "Raitt'ed"🤣
Rock blues !Country use to be called poor white man blues. So you do get blues elements in the song. Wonderful song and well sung by Bonnie. She has the voice for it. Thanks Maddy.
Thing Called Love.....for sure
From her first LP she does a cover of Lenny Welch song- Since I Fell For You. Great song that never gets reaction. Be the first!
So good. Bonnie's Dad was a big time Broadway star back in the day. Pipes ran in the family. 🙂 Thanks, Maddy!
Don't know if you ever saw it, but one night on David Letterman, he had Bonnie and John and they would just come out periodically and belt out about a minute of a show tune like Oklahoma and then leave. It was great. Unfortunately, it looks like they've taken that vid off YT.
@@MattJocks, no I didn't see that. Bummer! Sounds like they had a lot of fun. 😄
Bonnie's voice is so nice.
Bonnie is a blues legend
Thanks John
legend and icon
John Prine is amazing. Morgan James version is my favorite
I like her guitar.
This one is new for me
The Great Bonnie precedes Cheryl Crow
If you like Bonnie, you'll probably also enjoy Susan Tedeschi with the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Very similar styles and the band is top shelf. They also do a cover of Angel From Montgomery but I would recommend Midnight in Harlem as a good starter. Also, you would do yourself a favor by listening to John Prine do Angel From Montgomery or just about any other song he wrote. His library is both deep and wide.
Every artist worth hearing since she hit the scene has been influenced by her.
John Prime wrote this song. 😊
If you want too do some country do Alison Krauss "When You Say Nothing At all" 🥰
If you decide to react to it have a tissue, beautiful song 🥰
No doubt that Alison did a great version of the song "When You Say Nothing At All." Don't get it twisted but do yourself a favor & go listen to Keith Whitley's version of that tune my friend. Just saying...
The original Sheryl Crowe.
U should go down the John Prine rabbit hole. He wrote this and so many others you’d love
John prime consider his music country and he wrote it and Bonnie bluesd it up
You should really do John prine ‘souvenirs’ version. Arguably the greatest American song writer.
Any Bonnie Raitt is good. Please listen to the duet of this song with Bonnie and John Prine, the fellow that wrote it. It is sublime. Comparing Bonnie Raitt to Cheryl Crow is a massive insult to Miss Raitt. It's the Blues, not rock, not country, the Blues.
I will send another one through when the other one I sent plays... 😉😉
Check out some more John Prine songs. He had some sad and powerful songs. "Sam Stone" is even more impactful than this one.
Written by John Prine/
A John Prine song. Should listen to him sing it, it's much better.
