SYNOPSIS
Over two decades after the events of Gladiator (2000), Lucius-the grandson of Rome's former emperor Marcus Aurelius and son of Lucilla-lives with his wife and child in Numidia. Roman soldiers led by general Marcus Acacius invade, forcing Lucius into slavery. Inspired by the story of Maximus, as depicted in the original 2000 film, Lucius resolves to fight as a gladiator while opposing the rule of the young emperors Caracalla and Geta.[2]

It was clearly put here for the lines of “Human beings in a mob / What’s a mob to a king? / Will he make it out alive? / Alright Alright / Tears on the mausoleum floor / Blood stains on the Colosseum doors / Bloodstains, Bloodstains / What’s a king to a god? / What’s a god to a non-believer.” Please tell me those DON’T seem like VERY fitting lines for this film.

Amazing movie. One of the best from 2022. He’s also great in the show Normal People
I loved the first Gladiator movie. When I first heard about Gladiator 2 I had no excitement for it. But when I found out Denzel Washington was attached it became my most anticipated movie for this year. This trailer didn’t disappoint. I’m feeling big “Denzel gets an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor” vibes.

Harry Gregson Williams was one of his proteges and is an amazing composer. I have high hopes for the soundtrack
So, the writer of this film, David Scarpa, also wrote Napoleon from last year. Him and Ridley Scott seem to work well together, but I didn’t think Napoleon was anywhere near as good as it should’ve been. Let’s hope this movie isn’t as big of a disappointment. It has my attention, but I wasn’t be too surprised if it’s a letdown.

Napoleon wasn’t good because the napoleon story is enormous. Then again, Ridley Scott has been very inconsistent in quality.

Looks good. I'm glad Ridley Scott is doing this. But I'm still kinda worried like I was with Bad Boys for Life and Beverley Hills Cop these long awaited sequels have potential, and they could be great, but it could be terrible as well.

Not sure if this will a Top Gun Maverick legacy Sequel in terms of quality but I won’t lie. I hope it’s amazing. Gladiator is one of my favorite movies and a sequel with this cast, these effects and Scott directing again. Should be one of the best of the year if it all comes together
It's very possible that the movie spreads its wings so to speak and is more different than the trailer makes it appear. It could be playing it safe in the trailer to avoid giving away some of the more unique elements of the film.
The first Gladiator was already a remake. Watch the 1964 movie The Fall of the Roman Empire.

@@trapez77 The relationship between Marcus Aurelius and Commodus. Marcus Aurelius prefers his general to his son. Commodus kills his father. The general and Commodus become enemies. Lucilla, the daughter of Marcus Aurelius, is in love with the protagonist. The protagonist and Commodus end up fighting each other surrounded by the praetorians. And these are just the matches that come to mind now, I saw the movie quite a while ago.

The Sequel to my favourite Movie ever.
Man i hope they do NOT mess this up.
It’s closer to $200 million. Government of Malta gave the production more than $100 million in rebates to shoot there.
The cinematography looks like it will be amazing but that’s all i can say at this stage
The lead, Paul Mescal, is an utterly fantastic actor, and probably deserved to win an Oscar a few years back!
I might be wrong here and not sure if anyone else might be thinking this but I feel like we might sympathize and relate more with Pedro Pascals character and I think Denzel might be portrayed more as the villain. The lines Pedro says make him seem like he will be a good emperor and I could be wrong

I’m not concerned about it being a rehash because movies like Top Gun Maverick have shown that sequels many years later can capitalize off of having a similar plot to the original. My main concern is whether the themes of the original are going to be just as evident in this one

If they really wanted to make a continuation, then they should've had Spencer Treat Clark again as Lucius. He's still young. Put him in a gladiator school, and he'd be a killer. Paul Mescal doesn't have the gravitas and charisma of Russell Crowe. No matter how much he tried to sound like Crowe.
This is more like a rehash, almost a remake, of the original. But without Hans Zimmer's glorious music.
I'd wager this could be a dud like the Benhur remake.

Just missing someone with the screen presence of Crowe (in the lead I mean, obviously Denzel has 2 oscars for a reason) and the expensive cinematic image quality of 35mm vs the actors-doing-cosplay look of digital. Ridley's digital movies have never looked as good as his 35 ones, especially for historical epics which should be trying to avoid the Netflix look.

There’s flamboyant Pedro (game of thrones and Nic cage the movie) and quiet subtle Pedro (mando and last of us). This feels like quiet.
Both Pedro’s are great to me.
Can’t really say without spoiling the original. But it’s self contained story. The conflicts are all resolved by the end and there’s no obvious place to go next. There’s not a character which would make sense to be a gladiator immediately afterwards.
Some idea being proposed back in the day got really wacky and sounded terrible.
But By setting it 20 years later their able to take a child from the original and make him the lead of this film. Sometimes time provides new opportunities
Denzel is speaking with an American accent. Doesn't that make you roll your eyeballs? Maybe I've gotten old, because it's not working for me mentally. The original does not need a sequel.
I want to be excited but Ridley Scott’s track record has been pretty spotty recently. Napoleon was a huge let down for me. I’ll still be seeing this opening weekend though

It doesn’t look bad. However, it didn’t answer the question that all sequels should answer: “what is the purpose of this film being made?” It feels WAY TOO reminiscent of the first film. Already I feel like it is almost impossible to live up to the original, but if the film just rehashes that first film in a lazy way, it’s not going to have a favorable legacy. Also, wtf was that song choice for the trailer?

It's probably a pointless sequel nobody asked for similar to Independence Day: Resurgence (2016). Then again, I didn't expect much from Cobra Kai or Top Gun: Maverick and they went well beyond my expectations.
Eddie Munson from Stranger Things is a busy man. From A Quiet Place: Day One trying to save a cat to looking like Robert Downey Jr. wearing a Cersei Lannister wig. 😂 It's from Ridley Scott. It's 50-50 flip a coin stuff coming from him. Napoleon was a beautiful movie but was not a good movie.
