I feel like Chita Rivera because I'm the only actual Hispanic to be casted as Rosie in a high school rendition of bye bye birdie but I don't care because I'm so excited and this young lady did a very good job for someone who isn't actually Spanish I loved this it was awesome
As someone who has been a part of many castings, sometimes it is hard to cast certain roles as their actual ethnicities because sometimes no one of that ethnicity shows up to the audition. I am very happy you, an actual Spanish Rose, got to play Rosie!
ace lee I get it. As a Hispanic, I find it unfair at times when they cast white actors for Hispanic roles. But sometimes, they don’t have Hispanic actors. Other than that, I think she did very well.
the whole point of the song is that she isn't Spanish but her mother in law to be keeps saying she is. She even says she was born in Allentown PA. She is challenging the stereotypes.
I played this part my Sr year in 1995 at Seminole Presbyterian High School, Tamp, FL. Thank you for posting to take me back to that moment. I’m sure I remember sounding this good in my head😂😇 Absolutely beautiful performance
Outstanding! I’ve had the chance to play Albert twice in my life, once in high school. Kudos to this very talented young lady - triple threat and then some!
Landblaster ffff that sucks. We closed a week ago and right before tech week told me she wasn’t looking for a relationship at the time which I get. Hope your crush turns out better
Landblaster no problem. We’re doing fiddler on the roof and out of the three roles I want two of them have lead roles as the love interests. I’m pretty sure she’s gonna get one of the two lead girls I’m talking about so if I get cast that’ll be an experience 😬
Katie O'Brien they still haven’t anointed the roles, auditions ended november 1 so they said that they’re going to announce sometime in the next two weeks
people saying this is offensive need to realize this show came out in a entirely different time. lmao listen to the song how lovely to be a woman! there are songs from old shows like this that are strictly wrong in today’s fashion but it’s a mirror of the time they were created in.
it's also meant to provide a sense of mockery towards mrs. peterson from rose's point of view. mrs. peterson dislikes the idea of her son marrying a hispanic girl, so she is saying that because albert loves her for who she is, rose is fully embodying her culture, as well as the stereotypes, and saying she will be the most spanish girl of them all! ik i'm late by 3 years, but i'm auditioning for rosie in a few days and wanted to add on to this point😂
It was done in a high school so it is likely they couldn't find someone Spanish who was talented enough. If this were a professional show they would have cast a Spanish person but schools are quite limited with performers.
Jay jay I get u but you have to remember this is a high school play so casting a Latina girl who fits the role and is a good singer would be really hard. I get what your saying though
ik im 4 years late but the song is about rose being of hispanic descent, and because albert's mother dislikes that part of her, she is fully embodying her culture (as well as its stereotypes) and mocking her future mother-in-law's disapproval. it's not intended to be racist, despite rosie being portrayed by a white actress. like a few comments explained before, high school theater is very limited to its performers. hope this helped!
Wow. This is a high school production? Crazy good.
I agree -- not only her dancing, but her self-mocking facial expressions.
It’s a community theater
Mellifluous nope, it’s a public high school that has an award winning theatre program.
Stratford High School in Houston, Texas! Amazing theatre program!! They are so talented!

Casted is not a word.

I’m auditioning for Rosie today, and I really hope I can live up to this amazing performance
Katie Moore as Rosie is excellent - singing, acting, dancing - it's hard to believe she's a high school girl, she has such a womanly air in this role.
She is fabulous!!
the whole point of the song is that she isn't Spanish but her mother in law to be keeps saying she is. She even says she was born in Allentown PA. She is challenging the stereotypes.
Shes not spanish but she is puerto rican
What a BEAUTIFUL dancer! (And able to keep singing while dancing, which I'm always super impressed by lol)
This is such an awesome rendition love the personality
Awesome performance! Must've been so much fun to play this role!
Katie did so well in this roll! So proud of her! ❤️
The girl playing rose is phenomenal!
OH MY GOSH SHE'S AMAZING!! I would love to see her play Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie
Aaahhh my audition is today for the role of Rose, I really hope I get it!
Callie B did you get it!?
I did actually get the part, it is really fun and there is A LOT of dancing
Callie Basler congrats!
NICE JOB!
that's funny, bc a few days ago i saw bye bye birdie and the role of rose was played by a girl named callie

Absolutely beautiful performance
What a fabulous actress.
Amazing! Auditioning for rose today! Hope to put on a show stopper like this!
Outstanding! I’ve had the chance to play Albert twice in my life, once in high school. Kudos to this very talented young lady - triple threat and then some!
Perfect voice and perfect timing! Awesome performance
OMG THAT WAS AMAZING!!!. m performing this show as a school musical and they cut this song. so annoyed
I like how this song makes fun of stereotypes.
i love how half the comment section is people who got cast as rosie coming here for inspiration (now i’m on that bandwagon too😂)
Put her on Broadway ASAP!
My crush is playing Rosie in our production of Bye Bye Birdie (I’m in the ensemble) and I’m going to die when she performs this number jdjgjdhdgskdk
Update: she sang it today and I almost died I was like 👀👀👀

Landblaster thanks, same to you
i’m auditioning for rosie in like 2 weeks, wish me luck!!
did you get it
Katie O'Brien they still haven’t anointed the roles, auditions ended november 1 so they said that they’re going to announce sometime in the next two weeks
Did u get it ? I'm beyond curious
nikki_nicole _ no i didn’t get it 😭😭
Katie O'Brien no i didn’t end up getting it :((
Amazing

i forgot to go to my school’s play do i’m watching this lol
My school did this
I’m so nervous, I have to memorize this song since I’m rosie
The acting is extremely good, but it's very obvious that she's not used to singing so low.
She’s an alto actually
why isn't she spanish?
It was done in a high school so it is likely they couldn't find someone Spanish who was talented enough. If this were a professional show they would have cast a Spanish person but schools are quite limited with performers.
you never know! i'm puerto rican and have the same skin color as this actress
stratford's theatre department is mainly white so it's kind of hard to find someone who is hispanic to plays hispanic roles
Can I just inform everyone that Spanish isn't a race. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Also isn’t the point of this song that she isn’t Spanish?
I love how low key racist this song is 😂😂😍
bruh what
This scene takes place at a bar, And it's a huge dancing scene with guys. And she's drunk AF and wanting men. I was very dissapointed
Jason Jones you're thinking of the shriner's ballet. it's a different scene. he's uploaded that one too.
Actually the official libretto says the scene is after that, you might have seen a different rendition
no honey, that’s shriners ballet
She was so awkward the whole performance
I really feel like bc she's not Latina this sounds low key racist.
Jay jay I get u but you have to remember this is a high school play so casting a Latina girl who fits the role and is a good singer would be really hard. I get what your saying though
Jay jay shut the fuck up. It’s a high school play and this song is about playing up Spanish stereotypes to annoy her boyfriend’s racist mother.
it’s a song about being spanish. from Spain.
This is offensive.
It’s really not lol
Seth Jerabek no, it’s making fun of the spanish stereotypes, and making a joke about how stupid they are .
It's not. You're seeing what YOU want to see.🙄
