I was gonna buy it and you saved me from making a purchase I would not be able to financially recover from for at least 3 years. Thanks for that! That being said, which card would you recommend? People say RTX4060 is bad, RTX4060ti is bad value, RX6700 is 150$ more expensive for only 5% performance bump, RX7600 is at the same price point as A770 and 4060, but I'm not convinced it doesn't have issues of its own, which is what I'll research right after this video, so yeah, what would you recommend? I'd love to aim for slightly better GPUs from Nvidia, but the prices are ridiculous, I could never be able to afford that

Arc's biggest problem is it is inconsistent system to system. Some setups it performs and behaves a LOT better, or a LOT worse. The only problem I can say is universal, be it visual issues like tearing or black screens though is 1st Gen ARC HATES old displays. If you have a monitor that's more than 5 years old; just don't bother, nor with multimonitor. Your typical 1440p 144hz monitor from a decent brand like LG/Samsung/Acer is fine though.

Thanks for making this video. As a former A380 user experiencing the software issues, the BIOS hurdles, the insane power consumption even on idle (17W) and the fact that Battlemage is possibly a whole year away and may not address all those issues... I appreciate you standing by your position that Arc can't be recommended.
I regret falling for all the narratives about 'We need to support a 3rd competitor' and 'Nvidia and AMD are greedy so we got to support the little guy' and all the marketing about Arc's performance.
But yeah, I realized I couldn't wait for Battlemage and decided to get an RX 7600. I can't believe how great it is to not worry about power consumption (idle), having a great software like Radeon Chill and Super Resolution, and just having a stable reliable product.
And I say this as someone who was in a financially precarious situation and was desperate for an upgrade (the 1050Ti was barely viable). So Arc seemed very attractive to me. But you're right, the unreliable hardware and software doesn't justify the 'competitive' prices. And i dont think enough reviewers are pointing them out when doing head to head comparisons.
So, thank you. I wish 2022-self was here to see your video (=

I think a lot of tech reviewers are overlooking a lot of these issues, and not thinking how impactful a lot of them will be to someone that ends up using the card day in day out. It's good Intel are working to sort them out, but I don't see how Intel can credibly be recommended as an alternative to Nvidia/AMD (unless their cards were sold at like 40/50% of what the AMD/Nvidia equivalents are selling for and even then I'm not sure they'd be worth the hassle/stress that these issues would cause in the long run).

Have used an A770 as my only gpu for the past two months. Am currently shopping for a replacement. Performance is, put simply, abysmal in too many games. Halo MCC, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Tomb Raider 2013, even Assassin's Creed Unity AFTER the supposed "big fix" update (4514 driver) - there's constant frame-drop and low utilization when there's any sort of serious draw distance loaded. There are some games where Arc performs well, like Cyberpunk and Borderlands 3, but they're too few and far between to make Arc a worthwhile purchase for gamers.
Productivity is an entirely different story, though not one I've tested very well. I've only run some QSV-accelerated Handbrake encodes, and edited some videos using Vegas 15. Both have been rapid, crash-free experiences (touch wood). But my main purpose in buying an A770 was gaming, and for me - who plays a lot of classic DX9, DX10 and DX11 games - Arc has been a massive disappointment.

Now to be fair I've seen a fps decrease in most games but what this card lacks in game performance it makes up for ten fold with encoding. I went from having to make concessions to quality to stream with the Nvidia decoder. With the Intel card I have been able to raise every setting to maximum quality. Not only does streaming/recording not drop performance as with the Nvidia card I now pick up between 5 and 12 fps when activating the encoder. On the review bench it's easy to make a list. In the real world when you aren't looking to pick it apart it becomes clear these cards are a world apart for any creator trying to get 2 PC performance from a single PC setup.

The HDMI flickering issue, i am experiencing it as well. As far as i could find, it is because it is not a true HDMI 2.1 on the ARC cards, they slapped some sort of adapter on to meet the 2.1 standards so they can brand it as 2.1.
But a lot of TVs are having issues with the way they are running 4k 120hz out of the hdmi port, might have to do with bandwidth.

Can we please go back and look at ATI and Nvidia's first year in discrete graphics?
I'd suggest to you both were fraught with issues. I was there for both of those.
While I have not had any real issues with my A770, I don't expect everything in a driver to be done in a year.
Is everything peachy with Intel? No.
The release drivers were terrible and who ever ran that division should have been replaced.
That said...it has come a long way since.
As to the popups.. I use 7-zip to extract the drivers from the .exe, then only load the driver...never the ARC control.
My biggest niggle to date is no capture radio button.
I'm still using OBS for game capture as a result.
The card runs properly in every DX9 and later game I own because I have it properly matched and I have a properly configured BIOS.

My capture card was great because it ignored a lot of HDCP nonsense. It had both HDMI and Red-Green-Blue analog the latter of which I used a lot to dodge the few HDCP devices I had.

But it is not available to buy or its price is too crazy, a new or used Radeon 6600 serves better

HDCP is gonna be a dealbreaker. I've never been able to get HDCP to work on any of my displays. I always have to avoid using HDMI altogether if a device needs HDCP to play a disc.

I think a lot of people want to bet on Intel, but they are new to the GPU market so most people are hesitant to even buy a GPU from them.
A lot of people are planning to wait a couple years to see how the Intel GPUs hold up over time, as their GPU Reputation grows, so will their market share.

I wouldn't run Arc as my primary GPU, but if you have a secondary system of any kind, I see no reason why not to use Arc. While not everything works well, it's generally stable enough. It's not like it goes around crashing every 5 minutes, it actually works as a gaming GPU, and even better as a productivity GPU.. The software maturity just isn't there yet, but it will improve over time.

Just installed a ARC 750 in my non gaming PC. No video out until drivers installed but can't install drivers without video out.
This makes things difficult. I borrowed another GPU so I could install the intel drivers. All working ok for me now.

I've had an a770 since jan and the only issue i have atm is halo mcc reach performance is rubbish (7fps at times in 1440p). Everything else has been fine for me rwally.
No crashes, alt tab works fine for me.

I disagree with statement about AMD drivers. AMD is not properly supporting their cards, especially older ones. Some cards were never supported, like integrated vega, because I think VP9 issues would be resolved by now since release. Bugs, like HDMI scaling halving refresh rate is still preset after 15 or so years (it has been there since HD5000 series) and many times AMD bugged something and never fixed it, like 1st gen GCN getting stuck in UVD clocks when dxva up/downscale is used from 2016 to eol. While these are "windows bugs", games are not completely immune either. Battle eye tends to block AMD driver integrations in some cases, so if you rely on enhanced sync or whatever from drivers, it may not work at all. Opening AMD software (not overlay, since executable for it can cause other issues, so I have it blocked in group policy) during game can be impossible.
Intel still got benefit of a doubt considering they had only 9 months since ARC release, while AMD was plagued with some really dumb bugs for years which are still present. I might be wrong, but market share drop agrees with "there is something wrong with AMD GPUs".

    • @noway8662

It's been over year, not 9 months. A380 launched several months before A750.
Also, it is not ONLY. It is ALREADY. Take the negative stance already. It's more objective in this case.

    • @CrazySerb
      @CrazySerb Год назад

@@noway8662 Compared to AMD, 1 year is not that much time. AMD still has 15 year old bugs. So, AMD drivers got better is objective?! 15 years!
The only objective part here is that intel is not for normal users, but AMD is not either. Normal users should not deal with disabling HW acceleration, registry tweaks or use powershell scrips to bypass driver bugs.

Weird i bought a Acer Predator A770, in a fresh instal of windows(using motherboard manufacturer drivers not windows) with a Ryzen 5800x3d,(again with amds own drivers) intels 4502's Arc Drivers) 32gb ram and rebar on etc, I dont get any of the issues you speak of (nor the other reviewers who say similar stuff) the a770 just works so well in everything i play, old and newer games, i play at 1440p and get more fps than your graphs, really silky smooth gameplay i always set my games at ultra.(i dont use ray tracing options)

I thought about arc but seeing as it really needs rebar it was a bad match for an aging 4790k. 6600 has been good and plays very nicely with an leg oled.

I got Rebar working on my 4790k and oh my god how deep, difficult and complex an endeavor that was. I pushed through it out of sheer stubbornness, but I wouldn't recommend trying this to anyone, even those with technical experience. I got a A770 16GB for only $180 and still kind of regret it. Save yourself the trouble and just get a used 5700 XT for $100. It's the same performance at the time of writing this.
