I'd say a more likely message is that things outside of fighting make life fulfilling/culture can bring people together since the Zentradi didn't have concepts of art, music, sex, or culture in general. Proving to the enemy that you're no different and that both sides deserve to live is what really leads to proper conflict resolution as opposed to the total annihilation of the enemy that was so prevalent in the show's day. While everyone talks about Roy's death, I'll always remember the guy who was with Hikaru and Max in the battle over Ontario, where he was killed by the SDF-1's omnidirectional barrier overloading, wiping out almost everything around it. Max got a giant alien waifu, so I'd say we know who the real winner is. Hard to believe this started off as a parody of Space Battleship Yamato and other mecha series like Gundam. It should be noted that Muh-Cross a mispronunciation of the title. It's meant to be more like Mac Ross or MA-cross. I've seen the original Japanese intro and read how its name is meant to be based on MacBeth, so that really supports the MA-cross or Mac Ross pronunciation.
I couldn't possibly phantom seeing macross as a parody! It was presented so sublimely people didn't realize, allowing it to branch off and become its own sci-fi epic. Probably for the best seeing how beloved Macross Plus turned out ! Maxmillian in this game moves faster than Hikaru, the cutscenes show the blue / green haired guy with the glasses and he's easily identifiable through that.
