    Excellent video, amazing pictures. Love the hammerhead close up and the final b&w. Since you mentioned changing sd and batteries during the surface time, how do you do that without fogging the housing? Do you use an expensive aluminium housing, or do you use anti-fog inserts?

    • @BDPhotographs
      @BDPhotographs  2 года назад +1

      Very good question: I try to swap when out of the A/C and also give the housing an opportunity to adjust to the outdoor temperature and humidity. I just use a small moisture absorbing packet near the lens port.

    Thanks for the video! What strobes are you using?
    Do you recommend using AOI Underwater Ultra Compact Strobe Q1 or INON Z-330 Type II Strobe ?

    • @BDPhotographs
      @BDPhotographs  2 года назад

      I use Ikelite DS-161 strobes - very heavy but reliable and strong-performing. My next set will something more compact. I have never used the AOI but have friends who swear by the INONs… of course there’s a big price difference to consider, so depends on your needs.Thanks for watching!

    Beautiful images and video. I just returned from Tiger Beach and although I have some pretty decent material, I'm ready to upgrade. I'm shooting stills with a Cannon S110 however the housing flooded this trip so we're moving on. It takes a surprisingly good image for a $100 point & shoot. Someone recommended I upgrade to the Cannon G7 X Mark III as a nice upgrade while still staying in the point & shoot category. I shoot video with a GoPro 8. After running it through Dive+, I'm reasonably pleased but then I clearly see the difference with your content here. I'm willing to spend up to $3k. What do you suggest?

      Glad you went to the best shark diving spot on earth and I hope you enjoyed the trip! The challenge with underwater gear is that there is very little middle ground - you’re either spending $1K-2K or more than $10K because the housings and strobes cost as much (if not more) than the cameras and lenses. Ikelite makes the most affordable housings. I don’t have much experience with point and shoot but I know a few divers who love the Sony RX100 especially for video but also for the stills.

    This is amazing!!! Who did you dive with and what size dome do you use? Thank you so much!

    • @BDPhotographs
      @BDPhotographs  3 года назад

      Thank you! I have an 8" acrylic dome port - I don't recommend glass if you dive with sharks regularly. This trip was with Jim Abernethy out of Florida.

      @@BDPhotographs how come you don't recommend glass? Thank you so much.

    • @BDPhotographs
      @BDPhotographs  3 года назад

      @@wd9283 If your dome gets scratched (by, say, a shark tooth) you can buff it out if it’s not too deep on an acrylic dome … glass would just need to be replaced entirely.

    • @wd9283
      @wd9283 3 года назад

      @@BDPhotographs thank you!! I thought glass domes don't scratch as easily though? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to learn.

    • @BDPhotographs
      @BDPhotographs  3 года назад +1

      @@wd9283 No worries! … you’ll probably get a lot of different opinions about glass vs acrylic and both have their pros and cons. But I can tell you most of the photographers I know (professionals and amateurs) who specialize in shark photography have acrylic for the scratch/buff reason.

    Can you tell the ISO, F, and Shutterspeeds are in the photos ?

    • @BDPhotographs
      @BDPhotographs  4 года назад

      Sure thing: For most of the photos in this video I dial in a shutter speed of 1/160 and leave it there. F/11 usually. ISO varies depending on how sunny it is - usually between 100-400. Strobes are set to low power. Hope that helps!
