In Islam for praying we do wudu (washing up ourselves with water) to attain the state of purity for praying. Nail paints are normally not water-permeable due to which water doesn't seep through the nail bed and our wudu cannot be done properly. But during the time of our periods(menstruation), we are exempt from praying and can apply nail paints only during those days.
