Thank you for showing me how to get my own 3 segment shiny dundunsparce. This hunt took me 5 different chains and around 1 hour and 30 minutes to find 2 dunsparce. The most difficult part is getting a chain of 40 dunsparce. Make sure you catch more than one in case the nature isn't hardy or the ability is not correct. Thanks

It's because the Switch uses Unicode for text entry. Any character that doesn't have a Unicode equivalent _can't_ be kept during transfer, and that's not something Game Freak can really do anything about. You can actually see in the video that his gen 4 trainer name is an umbrella symbol, and that is kept during transfer because Unicode has a character for it.

Just used this method to get my 2nd shiny 3 segment! (1st obtained in Scarlet ofc) This may be the faster method, but it certainly doesn't feel fast. Broke 2 chains on accident at 40, got it on the 3rd!
Are the encryption digits determined the same way when transferred from gen 2 virtual console? They all seem to have a hardy nature when transferred but they have the rattled ability instead of serene grace. I've hatched and evolved well over 100 of these little guys so far but no 3 segments have shown up and I'm starting to wonder if they need to be transferred in after leveling a bit or something to change the natures.

I dumped my save file and opened it in pkhex. I learned after doing what I did in the video that you can right click the dunsparce, and then hold control and click on the checkmark by it to get a detailed report that'll show what forme it will evolve into
Well, try this method although on soul silver. Got myself 7 hardy serene grace dunsparce and when evolved on Scarlet.... NOT a single three segment Dudunsparce. Do you happen to know if this only works with shiny from platinum and not a not shiny dunsparce from other gens 4 games?
No it should work in HGSS, too. If you happen to be doing the cute charm glitch, it's possible you are just landing on the exact same hardy dunsparce that will always result in the same 2 segment

Why did it take me so long to figure out that he's going to transfer it over. Also i dunno how rare it is or if it was determied by hidden factors but, the saybleye I brought to violet, had a mark. He was ribbonless too. Also at 8:08 you mention how the :) face will be scrubbed out though I transfered over a shiny lycanroc with the star symbol next to it. And its still there. Will my game be messed up now if I use her?

From Gen II, the encryption constant is randomly generated on transfer from the game to Bank, regardless of the nature and everything
