In this lesson, I will show you the old school 3 Dog Night song that uses a classic funky bass line.
"The bassline that everybody remembers from the song" has a serious problem. When you go to E-flat, that's an A-flat diminished chord with E double-flat (D) in the bass. (I think that's the right terminology. Theory was a long time ago.) The bass doesn't play Eb-Gb-Ab. It plays D-Eb-Ab. That Ab-dim with the half-step bass climb is a signature part of the song. Sorry to be so negative, but I love this song.
(My band is about to roll out our version of this song at our next rehearsal, so I've been looking around for bass ideas. I didn't come here to criticize.)
