Looked through his recent private home collection/auction catalogue and was surprised to see he kept this mirror... it was shown set above his fireplace, with other items to be sold. (Interesting to see the auction prices were closer to the original price he paid, compared to the prices on his website, that were always listed for 10 times the original price he paid... guessing the divorce lawyers forced him to sell items for what he paid.)
It sure would've been nice to see the mirror in it's final fully restored condition though. I just subscribed to your channel, so thanks for posting these videos. - Dave
I had a quick look at the tv programme and there were a number of elements that lead me to believe it is not an original George 1 frame. The animal heads are from around 1700 but the Prince of Wales feathers are Georgian and at that are quite clumpy A characteristic not often used to describe John Belchier designs.. The basket and flowers is an obvious no no being from around 1740 and also the drapes at the sides. Belchier would never have used a basket as a centrepiece and the drapes are associated with architectural frames of the George II period The carving is not sharp enough and the mirror plate untarnished and clear as it appears, is most likely early 20th century. So due to the mismatch of styles its either its from then or at earliest mid 19th century.
Gotta love his front in saying: 'Just to make my self feel better' on one bid, having already made a £18,500 profit on a £1000 purchase with the same dude
