He does look like your average San Francisco Apple user LMAO. All fun aside, at least he had some free new story material to work on and to bring a company to embarrassment.

@@TsarNicholas2ndits true tho. I don't use an iphone anymore because of it. They promise better security but it's worse than any modern phone. Do you remember the fappening? Yeah apple caused this because they are too vulnerable

@@hedoroti it wasn't apples fault there wasn't any data breach or vulnerability in icloud it was the celebrities fault that fell for phishing attempts

@@hedorotihow do you expect apple to control who gives who their personal data? the only precaution they can take is to safely and securely protect your data, which they are already doing

One tip; have a physical backup that's not connected frequently. (once or twice a week, connect your usb3 drive, backup, disconnect). Of course, anything can be hacked.

Dude.. just don’t give away your digital stuff. Apple ID should only be known to you and apple. Last 4 digits of a credit card is always sketch when it comes up.

@@felixiscoool apple gave them the access. If I have your bank account number, call your bank and give them your basic information, they shouldn't just give your password to me.
The data they required to handover hos password was very basic which any decent hacker can get their hands on.

Dont store your passwords in the cloud. Write them down and keep them in your safe.

If you must write them down, don't write down the full password ... I add a 1 of a bunch of "words" to the end of my passwords, it's the only part I know... Even if you find my password, you won't know the last bits...

Calls himself a tech journalist, yet he effectively only used a single password and didn't have a physical backup.

This is why everyone needs to be using multi-factor authentication. Requiring an SMS code would’ve stopped the hacker dead in his tracks.

SMS for 2FA is a joke, people lost millions of dollars like that. People call your phone company claiming it is you and lost the SIM, and they redirect all messages to another SIM.
2FA apps are ~better than SMS.

    • @DreadHalfling9

Sadly not true :) SMS 2FA is considered insecure in the security world. 2FA apps can be bypassed if they get your browser cookies and there is a current session running.... Set browser to delete cookies etc when it's closed....

A YUBI key would be a good solution here.

Journalists specifically are advised to not use SMS 2fa as if their phone is compromised , the SMS can easily be read.
